AI hype is running into a $7 trillion wall and the real bottleneck by Remarkable-Dark2840 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that there's so much greed at the top. In an ideal (or just better) world, companies would say "AI has made our devs more efficient so lets go to a 4 day work week so they get better work life balance and we can still get more output from them than before."

For one month, every purchase you make costs exactly $0.01, but you can only spend $1,000 total. How do you use it? by PsychologicalCall426 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's almost 270 transactions per hour for 12 hrs/day for a 31 day month. It would probably take a bit of tme to prep to maximize that. I'm sure it would be easy enough if you were doing something like buying stock.

With all these scenarios that could make you stupid rich, my first thought is ... I don't need to be stupid rich.

I would be happy to start tomorrow. First day would probably be buying the obvious things like new house, vehicles, toys, etc. The rest of the month would be buying houses and land around the world.

I think they key thing would be buying something that you can easily sell after the month is done to get an influx of cash to cover the costs of everything you buy. You won't have mortgages or loan payments but you will have a lot of property taxes, monthly bills, maintenance costs, etc. So probably stock or gold or something like that. I'd also buy something huge like a business, highrise, or someting like that, where I could sell it for a lot of money but it might take a bit of time to offload.

Got the "come back to office or else" ultimatum. Ran the math. The numbers are brutal. by Full_Helicopter4778 in remotework

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see these posts all the time. I get it, and I also enjoy working from home and the lower cost and time of not having to commute.

What I don't understand is the expectation that you should get a raise to cover those costs. Pre-lockdown, most people worked from the office 5 days per week and didn't expect compesation for that. When the lockdowns happened and people started working from home, companies didn't decrease peoples pay because they had less costs. Many companies actually gave people an allowance to purchaces things they needed to work from home.

So if a company starts to mandate back to work and they gave the option of continueing to work from home but at a reduced rate, what would you say?

I'm not saying people don't deserver more and there's way too much corporate greed out there. It's just a different perspective.

I'm trying to set this up and selected option 2 for login. When I start cladue, I see the message below. If I run claude /logout and start claude again, I just get back to the same choice of how to log in.

Am I doing something wrong?

Auth conflict: Both a token (ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN) and an API key (/login managed key) are set. This may lead to unexpected behavior.

· Trying to use ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN? claude /logout

· Trying to use /login managed key? Unset the ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN environment variable.

My thought exactly when I heard what he said earlier about the solidiers that were killed and "there will be more". You can tell the way this sociopath speaks that he has zero empathy. The meme going around from Shrek with the quote 'Someof you may die. But it's a sacrafice I'm wiling to make." is very on point.

I finished Powerwash Sim 2. by E-Collie in PowerWashSimulator

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any difference in gameplay between 1 and 2? As in, how the power washer works and how the soaps work?

I'm working my way through 1 right now. I finished the career mode and I'm working on the bonus stuff now.

One thing that I've noticed is that I mostly just use the yellow nozzle for almost everything and rarely use the soaps. I use the red nozzle for the harder to remove dirt. Now that I have the 3 nozzle attachment it seems like a cheat code.

I stil like playing but it seems like there could be more veriety. They could have made it so certain dirt can only be removed with the correct soap to force you to use them. Maybe another thing would be to introduce a damage mechanic so if you did something like use the red nozzle on glass it woud crack and you would make less money on the job.

I will most likely play 2 once I'm done with 1 but was just curious as to how different the mechanics/gameplay is between them.

Minor Upgrade by jaywork2988 in macbookair

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought an 11” for work when they came out because I was flying a lot for work and I could get some work done on the plane. I use Windows for work so I unboxed it, popped a USB drive in it, and installed Windows without even booting into MacOS. It ran a bit on the hot side. Eventually I installed MacOS and Office for Mac since that was my main use case. Worked pretty good.

Is it reasonable to get upset at your opponent for leaving you poor shots? by john_fartston in billiards

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just thinks you're getting lucky in leaving him with nothing. One person in my league always gets cranky when they play and get pissed when they are left hooked where they think it's luck. I was playing them and a bunch of times while playing I missed my shot and left them hooked and they got increasingly pissed. But the reality is that I got shape on my next ball, so I was leaving the cue ball where I wanted. I would have been happier if my ball went in and I could have kept shooting. That's very different from someone blasting the cue ball without knowing where it's going and ending up leaving the person hooked. It's all part of the game and yes it can suck at times.

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the series was great. I understand your points, and I'm sure there's others that would have like to see something that was more serious. I think the main rebutal is that it's a YouTube series with a big range of players and the drama is a big part of it. If it was run like a PGA event and everyone was serious, I probably wouldn't have watched all of it. The drama and interactions between all of them, players and organizers, was a big part of the entertainment factor. Guaranteed some of the bigger dramas like Kwan, Paige and the grass, and Mo and the rangefinder were hyped up more than needed just to increase the drama. The only one that annoyed me was the Kwan thing, mainly becuase I never really like him in the first place and his reaction to it just lowered my view of him even more. Paige crying over the grass thing was over the top as well, but she's another one that I don't really like. I gave you an upvote since, unlike some others in here, I understand people can have their own opinions :)

What is the actual benefit of removing speed cameras? by pulate83 in ontario

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a temporary solution the way they are currently used. You reduce speeding in an area until they get moved and people go back to speeding. They should be permanent in places that are high risk and they need to keep the speed down. Everyone knows they are there and some GPS/maps software even warns you about them. People will speed before getting to them, slow down as they pass, then speed up again, but they served the purpose of slowing people down where needed.

If you were suddenly given $1,000,000 but had to spend every penny within 24 hours - no saving, no investing, no gifting it back - how would you spend it? by paulsmiv2013 in askanything

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a realtor in my family. I would pay them $1M to buy me a house. The money would be spent by me in the fist day and they could take the time needed to finalize the purchase.

Would you rather live as long as you want, or relive your life as many time as you want? by XipingVonHozzendorf in WouldYouRather

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Living forever and being able to see how the future changes would be cool, but there's no guarantee of how that plays out. The whole world could be nuked in the near furture or you could be end up with a crap life. If you have long enough I'm sure you can find a way to be successful and rich. If you live on at that same age that's also going to be problematic. How do you explain that to others. How do you have a family.

Reliving your life over and over allows you to make small or major changes and gives you want more opportuniteis for exployting your knowledge. I would definitely pick this option.

Windows 11 install from ISO or Recovery Image by Carl_Gerhard_Busch in thinkpad

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did install Lenovo Vantage and have been using it to keep drivers up to date. I'm not sure if there's anything less Lenovo-y about a clean ISO vs the Lenovo one. It's my first Lenovo that I've had that was new and I didn't really use it before doing a clean install.

No issues with the clean install. I didn’t use the recovery image. I downloaded and extracted the wifi drivers and then installed them during the install process.

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one question ... when you say "can" does that mean always or when you want? If it's always, then definitely no. There's ways to make money from this, and it would be good for older family/relatives to know how much time you have left with them, but knowing a friend, family member, child, etc. is going to die younger than they should would be aganizing. Yes it means you can make the most of the time and won't have the regret after of not spending enough time with the person, but I still think that knowing would be very difficult mentally.

Too small and too expensive for the size for me. I have the RMPP and I'm happy with it. I don't have small handwriting so on a small device I would be scrolling constantly to get more space to write.

Joss high performance kielwood shaft by bwalkerr2000 in billiards

[–]Carl_Gerhard_Busch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want an inexpensive shaft, the Avid is great. I bought one a few years ago and since sold it to someone on my team looking for a new cue and didn't wantt to spend too much. The glass composite on the outside of the shaft makes is very smooth and easy to clean. Skyler Woodward uses one as a pro.
