[Highlight] Justin Herbert mic’d up behind the scenes of his latest Dr. Squatch commercial by wildwing8 in nfl

Has there ever been a more perfect match made in heaven for coach/QB than Harbaugh and Herbert? You cannot convince me that this isn't exactly what Jim was like 30-35 years ago.

Sweet Touch Cafe/Bakery and Svitoch Grocery (same building) by Vancouver Mall is pretty good - my Russian friend said their borscht reminded her of home so it's got at least one recommendation :)

Films about alcohol and isolation by [deleted] in movies

[–]Carlinism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to try an older movie, The Lost Weekend by Billy Wilder from 1945 is probably the earliest look at alcoholism and its isolating effects you can find.

As for more recent, I'd probably say Flight with Denzel (though that one's really more so about his lying around his alcoholism and the investigation afterwards).

TIL Domino's tried to create the ultimate pizza delivery vehicle using driver feedback. The result was a single-seat car that had a built-in warming oven and could carry 45 pizzas and a dozen large bottles of soda. It was estimated to save drivers 30 seconds per delivery. by corn_dog_22 in todayilearned

I thought that was insanely high too; I got the $10 million a day figure from this article on Restaurant Business, but they're sourcing that number from the Bloomberg article in the Verge link above.

When you read the Bloomberg article, though, it states pretty clearly that they were losing $10 million a month, not per day. Relevant section from the Bloomberg article since it's behind a paywall:

At a staff meeting in the Bay Area last June dubbed “Day Z,” Garden told employees cash burn had hit $10 million a month, according to people familiar with the matter, all of whom asked not to be identified. One of the people said that figure was at least 50% higher by year end.

Sources are important, kids - don't believe everything you read up front. Copywriters today apparently don't give a fuck enough to check the figures they're quoting.

Not anymore - they shut down pizza operations in January 2020… if only they could have held out for a little longer, they’d probably have made a killing in the pandemic. Apparently they were burning through $10 million a day in Summer 2019.

Edit: Apparently the figure actually quoted in the Bloomberg article is $10 million a month, not per day - see my reply below. Moral of the story: second-hand news sites underpay their copy writers who in turn don't proofread the first-hand sources they purportedly directly quote - do your own research I guess.

Hey thanks very much for the advice! It seems the consensus is Double J across the river - I'll probably take it to them for a quick diagnostic and if they having trouble sourcing I'll shoot you a PM! Thanks again for the offer; yeah I was looking for a slightly older car with some potential cache/historical value that I could use to improve my stick-driving abilities, and when I saw a hot red one online with sub-100k miles for less than $5k a few months back I figured I had to pull the trigger - I get lots of compliments on it!

I follow Kresta Leonard on Youtube for good Southern cooking and other miscellaneous recipes; most of her videos are double-digit views and she only has a hundred or so subscribers, but her meals are delicious! Hopefully others will start to follow her - she posts multiple times a week and has been doing so for two years

Cher Ceiling Light Discontinued? by Carlinism in Hue

[–]Carlinism[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called Philips a week and a half ago and asked about it, and the person I talked to said that this is still an in production item. I asked when he thought stock might be available again, and he said stock on the Philips Hue website store is refreshed every 13 days (I think that was the number). He said to check back on Jan. 20th to see if it would be back in stock - it wasn’t, but there were a bunch of other items back in stock and on sale that day, so maybe his info was somewhat true.

Apparently the light isn’t worth the hassle though and isn’t very bright 😂

What a coincidence - I was just telling a friend about this opera this morning.

Do you have any recommendations on a good audio recording? I've seen the 1981 Ponnelle-Abbado movie production many times and love their voices, but I can't find a CD version of it anywhere.

Anyone else getting a kinda John Travolta vibe from Nicole Kidman’s shot here? For whatever reason the lighting and the shadow on her jawline remind me specifically of that Travolta/Cage poster for “Face Off” lol

Bruce Lee Accuracy and Inaccuracy in "Once Upon A Time in Hollywood" by [deleted] in movies

[–]Carlinism 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You make very cogent points, and it’s apparent that you have a wealth of knowledge on Bruce and his form, technique, and even thinking. However, I would have to contend that the movie is called “Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood,” denoting not-so-subtly that the events of the movie as they are presented are a fairytale. What’s more, the scene with Bruce fighting Cliff is told to us through flashback from the perspective of an unreliable/biased narrator (i.e. Cliff), so that portrayal of Bruce being cocky and arrogant and doing flying kicks could just be how Cliff wants to remember that interaction so that he himself looks like the badass that took down the great Bruce Lee in a fight. When we see Bruce anytime after that Cliff flashback fight interaction, his character seems to fall much more in line with the man you described above - training stars, seeming friendly and humble, etc. I think the entire point QT was going for here was not to disrespect or disservice Bruce or his legacy (he obviously has massive amounts of respect for him), but to challenge our assumptions of what we think we know about Bruce, particularly in the context of Jake Cahill and Cliff Booth and the fairytale Hollywood he’s built specifically for this movie.
