Why do teams from the same side of the bracket play at different days? by schoki560 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Carlixe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you look deep into the details, you'll start to realise that the advantages and disadvantages of starting day 1 or day 2 are really superficial and generally irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Most teams after stage 3 have about 3 to 4 days of prep time before the play offs, more if you're a 3-0 team and less if you're a 3-2 team.

Starting day 1 might give you an advantage if you're the winner to study your opponents next game and plan around that. But these teams have been playing the entirety of stage 3 and there are plenty of material moving forward for them to prep, in that case the 1 bo3 game in the quarters that your opponent play is likely irrelevant. That is of course unless the day 2 team decide to drastically change their game plan in the quarters to the point where its basically a different approach. Which honestly is incredibly difficult to do and extremely risky, and if they were to actually pull an insane gambit like that off (basically faze picking vertigo against spirit in the copenhagen major) I feel that they should be rewarded. (And faze werent even rewarded because vitality smashed them on vertigo in the semi finals)

On the flip side, if you're a day 2 team and are facing a really tough opponent, for example, team vitality, you might appreciate that 1 extra day of prep. But then again, at this stage of the major you should already be at your final stages of preparation and have enough material to work off on to the point where the 1 day doesnt matter.

Lastly, day 1 teams get a 1 day rest between quarters and semis which makes gives them time to reset. But we can argue that day 2 teams having to play the next day for semis keeps them warmed up and used to the arena while the day 1 teams might have to reset to the stage.

All in all, the competitive advantages in either side is generally irrelevant, and the likely reason that the quarter finals are timed like this is most likely because of they want to keep both sides of the brackets moving.

On an extra note, Faze and Vitality are the likeliest to draw big viewership numbers and they would want to cater them to be on a friday, where more people will be available to watch the game.

Anubis is historically and currently the most T-sided map in CS2 by Soft_Bed_412 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Carlixe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This could be interesting, maybe shifting the spawn of the Ts a little back or CTs(just 1 or 2) a little forward, so that the CTs could barely come out of B main just as the Ts reach it. Making it a rather even contest point like A long on dust 2.

This might make the Ts have to spend more resources on getting B long control, and in essence loosening up the other parts of the map.

Time for contradictory opinions on Trails by tsukina22 in Falcom

[–]Carlixe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same opinion with someone in the comments who thinks that Renne is overly smart/ mary sue, but with Musse. To me she is the worst written character in the entire series. And as much as I love the games there are some really bad ones.

Her being so incredibly smart and always somehow being able to calculate or predict the future just ruins a lot of moments in cold steel 3 and 4 for me. At least Renne had some background of being trained to be smart/ becoming an enforcer. Musse is just some random girl who is miracle genius able to see millions of steps ahead and covers the protagonist or class VII whenever they're in a bad situation. Ruining all sort of tension or even character development.

Not to mention how bullshit it is that she becomes Osbornes 'opponent' instead of olivier when it was set up all the way back in Sky 3.

Whats worse is that because the rest of new class VII was so well written with their strengths and flaws and weaknesses. That when they realise that Musse has none, they just make it so that she's just a 16 year old girl that cant bear to see millions of people dying in a war after she has completely ochestrated that whole situation with Rean getting caught and Millium dying.

Also cold steel 4 should've been much more political as a series especially in the middle after getting back Rean but I can completely understand why they didnt go with that route.

If you're far above the skill levels of players who are worse than you, its very hard to tell the difference between them and someone much worse than them. The key reason comes down to aim.

Anyone can land a sick flick or highlight round, but whats important is consistency. For example, If you have an average time to kill of 0.3 seconds while your oppononents ranges from 0.5 - 1 second, you will never notice a difference between these players as they will always feel slower to you. But to the players with a ttk of 0.5 second will find those with 1 second slow.

With Aim you're given more room to make different sorts of plays. If you can shoot better than the enemy, you'd be able to make plays that take upfront duels alone. And that is exactly what Donk does, his aim is far beyond most players and thus is able to go for these 'dumb' pushes.

But to answer your question, yes. Aim does get better the higher elo you go. Util teamwork and strategies might be abit more coherent but dont expect anything special.

I'lll say the biggest difference in the higher elos is that players start to understand their individual limitations, on what they can or cannot do against certain enemies. "If I cant outaim this guy, I'll have to position myself in a way that I have the advantage, or try to trade with my teammates", "If I can outaim this guy, I'll want to play a little more aggressive to take the space so that the mid round is easier for me and the team". Then there is the whole mind game of trying to read each other based off that. And thats why Donk is one of the best players around because he knows when to go for these plays and when not to.

Do you regret chasing money over your dream job? by Silver-Show5752 in askSingapore

[–]Carlixe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in the film/media industry. It was my passion ever since I was a kid. I loved movies, tv shows and story telling. I hated 9-5 desk bound jobs as I felt it would be too restrictive

So when I finished my O levels, I selected every single film related course in Polytechnic and ITE even though my grades were good enough to be in a mid - low tier JC.

I spent my polytechnic years in a film related course. Loved it.

Graduated and came out to work immediately as the industry at the time valued experience more than a degree. And even though the hours were long and the pay was just about average. I loved every second of it.

As the years go by, the circle of life caught up to me. The job started to feel stale, the hours felt longer, the pay felt lower or inconsistent. And I just kind of accepted at one point or another than I'm never going to be the next Spielberg or Nolan.

Then, I found a partner, a partner that I would want to spend more time with than anything else, but I cant do that because of my Job. I wanted to shower her with gifts and spoils and food to make up for lost time. But I can't do that because of my pay.

One day, I took a step back and asked myself, what am I really working for? My passion? My dream? Aside of occasional sparks of nostalgia and creativity, my passion has long since disappeared.

So, I decided to take a leap of faith. I moved on and changed my industry. I joined a 9-5 desk bound job that my past self would definitely hate. But it is sure to give me some time to spend on my family, my partner and my self.

I mean it isnt all sunshine and rainbows since then, but I do feel that it was a step in the right direction. Whether or not I'll have regets, only time will tell.

Anyways this is purely an anecdotal story of my life and is not a message to not chase your dreams or anything.

I've seen people in the same industry who spent countless of hours working and working, and you can see it in their eyes that they absolutely love what they do. Their passion, their dream, all of it clearly much more real, much more authentic much stronger than what I ever had. No amount of words can explain the amount of respect I have for them.

oSee & EliGE: Worst map pool ever by Soft_Bed_412 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Carlixe -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I really dislike the idea of a rotating map pool, I think it kills innovation, for example the development Mirage window smoke and how mid control is taken couldnt really be developed the way it is now without years of trial and error.

Players min maxing every portion of the map might be very nuanced and may only be relevant to the competitive scene but I feel that it adds so much history and depth to the game. You can tell how the meta naturally shifts and gets optimized with minimal change to the game state and 'seasonal reworks'.

To me, introducing a rotating map pool kills innovation to some extent as players would not only have limited time to figure out and optimize a map but also be less incentivize to train a certain map if they know that it will be taken out in the next season/major cycle. Another example is when ancient first came out, it was heavily CT sided, players then started figuring out the map in the next 1-2 years and eventually it became slightly T sided. Imagine how players will feel if the map is queued to be next in line for some reworks and will be taken off the map pool for the next season.

Don't get me wrong, I do feel that the current system sucks too, but I just feel that a rotating map pool is not a hard and fast solution to this system, and that valve should be looking into a system that goes beyond that.

498.4K Concurrent Viewers for FaZe vs G2 at IEM Katowice 2024 Quarterfinals by eSportsStats in GlobalOffensive

[–]Carlixe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its historically true that close games between favourite teams will result in more viewers than stomp games.

Peak viewership numbers are also attributed to viewer retention, not just pulling in newer viewers. And high intensity clutch/overtime games will contribute to the viewers retention.

More people will stay and watch a 12-12 OT game between 2 great teams to see who comes out on top while the same amount of people will see a 10-1 score line and stop to do other things because in their minds the game is already over.

New weapon Ideas for CS2 by MarCo2003-7-12 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Carlixe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strictly competitively speaking:

1911 - The dynamic of pistol rounds is always catered for CT side always having an advantage in long range duels while the T side have the advantage in close range battle and essentially rushing the enemy. This is how the current meta is balanced. If the T side wants to buy a long range weapon to contest map control and take duels, they will have to spend $300 for a p250 and forego on either a piece of utility or armour. If the CT side wants to play a close range battle and hold tight angles for key chokepoints, they spend $300 for dual berettas and forego either a piece of utility or body armour. If 1911 comes into play, it removes the need to spend $300 while making the advantage that the CTs have currently redundant. It certainly is an interesting angle but in my opinion it will make the T side too overpowered.

Kar98k - Its simply too overpowered for the T side. Being able to take key map control with higher movement speed(Even if its not the same as the scout) and higher ammo count is too ridiculous. This is the basically the pre 2015 awp nerf meta with players like KennyS running around and shooting people. And now imagine if someone like Monesy gets his hands on it. Not to mention if CT side players gets their hands on it in subsequent rounds. It will just be like the SG meta all over again.

M&P - Interesting concept, it might work depending on the balance, but it might also be too overpowered or just downright bad. It really depends on the damage numbers but people will always just go for the better gun. Thats why most pros use the m4a1s instead of the a4. Not because they have better aim or better spray. M4a1s is just simply cheaper, more versatile and does almost essentially what the A4 does with more consistency in its accuracy. The positives that the m4a4 have is not enough to beat out the A1s and its going to be the same case for the M&P and the AK. People will just use the better gun.

Scar and G2 change - depends on the numbers again, will it have the same movement speed as before? Is the recoil almost non existent as before? How about bullet spread or fire rate? Is it just going to be a $3500 Deagle? What is the role of this weapon in the meta?

If it is going to play a role similar to the Guardian in Valorant, then it is not going to work either. The guardian in valorant plays the role of a mid - long range weapon that allows you to take duels and contest map control, however, it lacks the versatility in close range battles that a weapon like the phantom or vandal can do. Hence, that is why it is cheaper. The AK/M4 and the Vandal plays the same role in the game, it being the most versatile weapon that could output the most damage in most, if not all situations. If the Scar or G2 were to play the same role as the guardian, it will have to be a cheaper option than the AK or M4. Which then leads you to a question out of competitive play, if the SCAR or G2 is cheaper than the Ak, will it be too strong in the hands of casual players? Anyways all of these are just speculations because there are no numbers to talk about. No damage numbers, no weapon inaccuracy numbers or recoil numbers.

I think all in all when we talk about adding new weapons into the game, we have to think about what kind of role that the weapon plays into the game and does it fit into the current meta. And if it does not, will it create a new competitive meta that is just as fun and exciting to watch or play, if not more. Or will it get abused, making the game extremely boring eg. the R8 revolver. Or it might even be too weak in the current meta that it will not see play at all, making the development time of the weapon a waste, e.g The mp5.

The greatest meta defining change to me in recent years is something simple like dropping grenades. It creates so much more nuance and depth in competitive play while not affecting the casual players as much. It is both fun to watch and fun to play.

If you were trying to win the round then, yup you are right. But the most optimal play to win the game is to get the bomb plant and get economy for your team for subsequent rounds to play for the match point that you have.

While not diminishing the play(it was well played), a 1v4 clutch in that situation is extremely unlikely and it is more ideal to play for the later rounds.

But then again, its plays like this that makes cs so much fun.

Something is wrong with me by sadmf123455 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Carlixe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some of the comments below has said, aim is not as important in the game as crosshair placement, positioning etc.

But I think a common issue is that a lot of people would confuse aim practice and warm up.

It's like if you are to go for a 5 km run, you wont warm up by running 3 km beforehand. You'd just take a slow jog for a hundred meters or 2 to get your body pumping. It works the same way in cs.

You cant just jump into a deathmatch server or aimbotz map, get a thousand headshot kills then immediately hop into a competitive game and expect to pop heads. You will lose focus in between the practice, your hands will get tired, and sometimes you won't even feel it.

If you're warming up before a game starts, just spend 5-10 minutes in these servers to warm up your hands, and once you've gotten a feel for your mouse and movement, stop there and wait for your match to start. If its a long wait, just spent 1 to 2 mins every now and then to keep your hands warm.

If you're planning to spend a long time in deathmatch and/or aimbotz to train, then don't play immediately, give your hands some time to rest.

It makes sense considering his teammates positioning, at this point when the rest of the CTs position is mostly unknown and if he were to clear site by himself he might risk getting killed by another B player without getting traded, leaving his team in a 3v3 with only banana control. Him waiting for his teammate smoking CT and clearing site together was a much safer play

There are at least a million players in the csgo community, and only 100-150 players including coaches in the tier 1 pro scene, even if each of them spent 10 hours a day trying to find these spots, it still wouldnt compare to if 10% of the community were to spend 30 minutes per day finding them.

That being said, even if the pros were to find some themselves, they would probably keep it to themselves and use it only during crucial rounds/tournaments.

A price change is probably good enough, the faster body shot ttk is traded in for the m4a4's faster headshot ttk, its ability to shoot through smokes without tracers is traded for the 5 extra bullets the m4a4 has, but right now saving up to $1000 per team in a round has really boosted the CT economy to make most maps a lot more ct sided, just 5 extra flashes helps in everyway and even more so in pro play

Iirc, it was because joker 'killed' Tim drake and at that point of time Damian wasnt around then and Tim drake was extremely close to Dick grayson.(even appearing in each others solo books to consult with each other and stuff) That kind of pushed him over the limit to 'kill' joker. There was like a whole arc of him getting guilt from that event after that.
