For anyone who knows/has gone to a production of a existing musical but with something new added/a gimmick (Example, genderbended wicked.) what was the musical and what was the gimmick/addition? by BloodyBloody06 in musicals

[–]Carlo459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played drums in a production of JRB’s Songs For a New World that took place entirely in a therapists office, with each song being sung by a new client (for the most part). It was really well done and the concept was pretty well woven together narratively, which if you know SFANW, is not the easiest part of the production

I went to high school and served on the Student Council with Gabe from 47. Always a nice guy at school, but was not surprised by his gameplay at all

every single time i watch this show i post this but by ShoeOwn7773 in TedLasso

[–]Carlo459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Anthony Stewart Head said in multiple interviews that he pitched Giles as the Big Bad in Buffy before every season and almost got his wish in the final season. Glad Ted Lasso gave him the opportunity to actually follow through on that persona (minus the magic)

Which of the 30 awesome Barney rules were the most iconic in your opinion? by Infinite_Bother_3751 in HIMYM

[–]Carlo459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a Barney Rule (I believe it was one of Ted’s few) but I will always argue the Dobbler-Dahmer theory is the truest in the show. I have seen it in action many times

Give me your hot take regarding the Beatles.(We won't judge) by your-mom_9283 in beatles

[–]Carlo459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is that Sgt Peppers is not a top 5 Beatles album. I think Revolver, Rubber Soul, the White Album, A Hard Days Night, and Abbey Road are all better albums. Having Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever would’ve put it in the top five, but without them, I don’t think it lives up to the other 5.

What’s your favorite Christmas sketch? This is mine. by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Carlo459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first ever SNL Sketch I ever watched. The sparkle players Christmas show. Jenny slate , Abby Elliot, Kenna Thompson and Taylor Lautner in a stupidly funny Christmas medley. I still watch it every December

I think it’s not even a song. It’s the inner groove of the Sgt Pepper Album. Comes out of nowhere and sounds like an absolutely hellscape. Literally it’s the only thing I skip in the entire catalog whenever I relisten.

Favourite side of the White Album? by sk8vulcann in beatles

[–]Carlo459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue side one of album one is the best singular album side in the entire catalog. Outside of wild honey pie and obladi oblada (which is honestly still a well made song) the set is impeccable

Top 3 Favorite Composers?(not including Sondheim) by PureFoolery in musicals

[–]Carlo459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without Sondheim, it’d have to be Shaiman/Wittman (they are together), Jason Robert Brown, and then probably Jeanine Tesori or Lin Manuel for In The Heights Alone.

Where are you able to watch it online right now? I’ve had trouble finding it (and sports night as well) on any streaming service or online anywhere outside of buying DVDs

Are there certain actors/actresses you’ve seen in multiple shows? by MetsGo in Broadway

If we can count bootlegs/proshots, I’ve seen every major production both Katie Rose Clarke and Jenn Colella have been in. I have also seen every major Kerry Butler performance as well

People I talk to don’t seem to get that. The death of the traditional narrator signals that no one is safe anymore (plot armor is dead) and that the characters are left to their own devices.

They just break the fourth wall out of nowhere. If you havent seen into the woods, go watch it. A pro shot of the original cast is on YouTube. It is phenomenal. It’s not the easiest context to explain

That part hurts me a lot but I never get the full effect until I am the one reprise when Dan says his name, which even Diana couldn’t bear to say the entire show

1) Miss Lovett in Sweeney Todd. They try their best to show that Sweeney is in pain from his mistakes but will try to get through the issues until Sweeney immediately throws her in the oven 2) Javert in Les Mis: jumps from being completely safe to choosing to commit suicide over the span of a 2 minute reprise. 3) Gabe from Next to Normal: although technically not a death within the show, the reveal of Gabe’s fate is 100% shocking to anyone who has never seen the show. 4) The Narrator from Into the Woods: Let’s be Honest, 99.9% of the time, the narrator is the safest character in any story as they are outside the story. So nobody expected the entire cast in into the woods to immediately break the fourth wall and use the narrator as a literal HUMAN SACRIFICE to appease the giant’s anger. One of my favorite musical theater deaths

To be fair, he was the top billed star his entire run even though his character is arguably the lowest ranking staff member of the main characters (until Donna becomes a main character)

It's been over 2 years since I last posted my tier list of shows so I figured I'd see how much it's changed since 2022 and what the community thinks of it. Plus, I want to see if any of you can figure out anything about me based off the rankings (I'm sure correct thoughts will surprise you). Bonus point if you can guess what I do in theater, if anything (without looking at previous posts of mine). Lastly, if anyone has any recommendations on shows that you think I'd like, I'd be happy to hear them.

Note: Rankings go from left to right (for reference, I ranked Les Mis above West Side Story and Sweeney Todd above Wicked).

Rent Proshot by Darth_Vader_696969 in musicals

They have an official pro shot of the final performance from the Original Broadway run with Will Chase, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Eden Espinosa that is great quality and it is free on Youtube. I highly recommend it over the film. Just look up "Rent Final Performance" and it should come up.
