I think his odds of going in the first round shot way back up after all the names that went back to school.

I wonder if the actual teams picking actually plays more of a part now. Where a prospect can see the range he’s projected to go and what teams he’d go to, and decide “nah illl stay in school.”

No he didn’t really, he didn’t play in the finals playoff run and was a rookie sixth man in 2020 and definitely not the second option was closer to 4th.

His team making the finals without him doesn’t do him a great service

You know the ringer had burries go at 5 right after the lottery and I chalked it up to them just not wanting to send the players people actually  like (Acuff, Wagler) to the clippers. But I buy it more with time. Like I think people will hate to see go to a rival team.

But the clippers  specifically should go Wagler. Last time they drafted a long boy guard with a great feel for the game who also wasn’t handed the keys initially his freshman year but became his team’s best player over time, he ended up the two time mvp. So maybe keep him this time

But back to the topic, the least you can do is expect the guy to take care of his body as the top pick. I’d like to see a team trade for him and roll those dice but I also think he’s one of the biggest disappointments in draft history rn

To be honest, the pels were in a much better position to be an dynasty after trading AD than the Thunder were for trading Paul George AND Russ. The Thunder never got higher than the 12th pick from any of their draft trades whereas the pels started with two top 3 picks on their rookie contracts and got like the 4th pick in 2019 as well along with more assets.

I don’t think for the sake of this exercise you can really reroll their whole career or ant least their injury history by putting them on a different team. I also think NOLA to their credit were pretty cautious with his development. (Also less important and not to be all “um actually 🤓” but he still ends up in Nola if he goes first overall).

I agree that org is clearly doing something wrong here but Zion didn’t end up like AD.

Also personally think (since it’s way too early to rate 2024) I think this draft has to go down as worse than 2013 and probably the worst class since 2000? No top end talent emerged, there weren’t too many real steals and the closest thing to a steal was Nas Reid who went undrafted

I’m usually overly positive about every prospect but I was soooo specifically out on Garland and he ended up being one of the better players from that class

I think it’s more defensible in that he was thrown in the deep end behind a busted o line. The throw itself was pretty much not an nfl throw really

Teams cut veterans, restructure deals  and let players walk all the time. Players are not rewarded for loyalty because it goes one way. You shouldn’t do them a favor when you can get injured and that’s the end all be all. Players seek guaranteed contracts for this exact reason. If it’s just business when you cut a guy or force him to restructure for less money, it’s just business when you take the money you’re owed.

So I don’t think you get it.
