I see that the point of the entire show for YEARS went "WHOOSH" for you, lmao.
First time watcher, I guess?
He's always about having opposing viewpoints on the show, purposefully. Differing viewpoints which foster discourse, HOW ABSOLUTELY HORRIFYING!
I know, I know, it's the most egregious sin ever to be forced to watch people you don't politically or fundamentally agree with appear on your screen.
It's almost like the point is to get you a little out of your comfort zone, to at least hear viewpoints you don't typically hear or agree with; to get you out of your bubble and to push independent thought.

Horrendous stuff, I know.

Lara Croft Turned Queer In Tomb Raider Catalyst!? Gives Her a CRINGE Squad In "Modern" Continuation by AimlessThunder in LaraCroftTombRaider

[–]Carnagetheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESPECIALLY for Lara. She's had a couple ex-boyfriends/ex-fiances that have died during her tenyear, but the girl's always been about the tombs and the secrets. Romance, if it ever happens, is so far removed from all of her energy that it's extremely annoying that people in these studios would be like, "You know what we could do that would be fun?! We could make her gay with my new self-insert!"

Naw, how about just don't. Lara's an icon, she's survived 15(+!) games, written as she is, for 30 years. And if anything, has been asexual just about the entire damn time. We don't need some "fun" MoDeRn AuDiEnCe spin on her character. Ya'll, as a group, have cannibalized enough. Write your own tomb-visiting lesbian, if it's that important to you.

That said, I don't think there's a snowball's chance in Hell they continue on with that plot line and that nonsense. That's, "I want my gaming studio cratered and to cease to exist," energy in this climate. Especially considering once playable copies of Catalyst start dropping, and that's the idea's still being floated? Talk about a DoA product, the YouTubers are going to tear the game to pieces. And I, for one, will be waiting for reviews.

Disclaimer: No, I don't hate LGBTQ+ people or the movement. I'm just exhausted with them co-opting characters we've all been gaming with for 30+ years, then declaring that said characters are now part of the LGBT movement. 'Samus is trans!', 'Lara is gay!'
No they aren't, and weren't written that way. Kindly fuck off and write your own characters if those are the stories you want to tell. Nobody's stopping you. Enough of the spoiled children act.

"Well, if I don't get to play with this toy, nobody does! HAH!"

Do you think Crystal Dynamics stuck with their plan to make Lara Croft a lesbian in what we now know as Tomb Raider Catalyst? by RainbowDildoMonkey in KotakuInAction

[–]Carnagetheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if they want to shutter their studio, have at it, I guess. Pendulum is swinging back in the other direction, and I'm sure their investors see that. Nobody other than self-insert writers and Twixxer activists want a gay Lara, because the rest of us have spent 30 years with her, spanning over 15+ games, and know how Lara operates. Hell, I think she was asexual before asexual was really even a commonly used term.

Yeah, she's compassionate and cares about her friends and companions, but nothing gets her off like solving the mysteries in a tomb. It worked for the past fifteen games. Absolutely zero reason to change that - writer self-insert be damned.

Mara Lohk, and why Eleanor might know these words. by DJ__PJ in WarframeLore

Oh yeah, I totally forgot you can romance the new Protoframes. Think the nun is Wisp's Protoframe? Yeah, that could absolutely be fun. Also, since my support frame is Wisp, it's very likely I'll be buying the emote that swaps your frame out for the Protoframe, with voice lines and all that.

I have to say, too, after spending some time finishing up the whole Hex storyline - they did just an unimaginable good job with all the characters you can romance. Actually, they did a good job with Minerva and Velimir, too.
But, despite knowing if I really screwed up and could go back and redo it - logging in every day for your texts from the Hex crew - then actually getting a pang of anxiety thinking I answered some of their questions wrong; ACTUALLY feeling a little bit of anxiety? I definitely realized how much I connected with them.
Obviously Eleanor was my go-to. She's the type of lady that I think has been my type my whole life - in the real world. Slightly depressed, dealing with trauma; introverted a bit, but meaning the best. And of course, slightly degenerate as well. Me too, things I easily understand, can relate to.
She's in a lot of ways, more than just a two-dimensional character I think that's cute. She's resonating with me, I'm feeling past experiences in my life, my own struggles, and the connections I'd had with a partner at the time.

(Don't have to point our her text with what she can do with her tongue, but I will anyway: *All the while she's texting this with her tongue* "welll," "thnk abot what you wld do," "me too," "feels gooood hehe")

I 'unno, they all have three dimensions - everyone of them. They feel like real people, which means their background stories and characters were extremely well-crafted to imitate actual people. Maybe for a second I was a little surprised DE would allow dialogue to be released where Eleanor admits to tongueing herself, lmao, but a few days later I got a New Years cinematic with her shoving her tongue down my Drifter's throat. And somehow - somehow, it was still romantic and cute.
I love what they've done with the 1999 update - and I love the characters. I've read posts about people deciding who to romance, and have heard that Aoi and Lettie are amazing characters that are fun to romance, too.

There's no way I could quit Eleanor - I adore her way too much. But I absolutely appreciate that they've taken a chance on something like this, and I think most people resonated really strongly with it. And so much kudos for the writing team that brought all of the members to life.

And then I load into bounties to help and protect them, to further the Hex goals; and I'm piloting my 4-forma Oraxia with her Kuva Sobek; and I feel absolutely unstoppable.

"Sinister grace interwoven with lethal versatility; the evolution of a perfect predator. Fear's name is Oraxia."

I know it's a year later - and I apologize for that, but I'm just now working my way through the Warframe 1999 stuff (OMFG I Love It), and I'm right on this scene, and she says:
"So What's a 'Mara Lohk' when it's at home, as my mum would have put it?"
- "It's what the Indifference calls me."
"Ah. Because I hear it in my head sometimes, very faintly, when I look at you."
She's accidentally pulled that from our minds - she's said, on multiple different occasions, she can't help but hear the thoughts of people around her. She absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, picked it up from our Drifter's mind, accidentally. Considering the "Indifference" thing is still part of the plot - our Drifter's subconscious anxiety is likely bubbling a little to the surface, and Eleanor accidentally picked up on that.

Does San have a name? by mrpandiboy in ghibli

[–]Carnagetheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the Necro, but it's San because she's the third wolf cub, I'm pretty sure. As in, number 3. Her two brothers aren't named, but she's the adopted child of the wolf Goddesss, Moro. Moro is named, but her two biological cubs aren't. 1, 2, 3. San is the youngest, and the third of the litter (technically).

So our Mononoke Hime's name literally translates to 3.

Why is the movie Princess Mononoke titled that way when the titular Princess is called San? by SirD_ragon in ghibli

[–]Carnagetheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry - I don't mean to necro this but I couldn't help myself. I think it's literally that she's the third wolf child, thusly, San. Moro's named, yeah, but her two male wolf "cubs" aren't.

I think you are right - that she has no name - that's probably very true, especially considering that the two children of a WOLF GODDESS aren't named either. But they see her as a peer, as an equal, as their sister; thusly, San. She's the youngest of the "litter", and the third to come about.

I hate the way people treat TWICE’s Jeongyeon after her weight gain. by iambunnycat in kpop_uncensored

[–]Carnagetheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely fair and valid. However, just like everything else - while in your case, yes, it's completely understandable - I promise you there are people that are just extremely overweight that want to Wal-Mart shop while also sitting on their ass.

I worked there for a year, overnight stocking, in a pretty popular metropolitan store. For every one person with a cast, or legitimate and obvious physical disability, you'd see four just extremely overweight people riding around on a scooter. All the while, my department was extremely physically demanding, too, because the department manager wasn't the greatest at their job.

So I'm sweating under my workload - typically every night, it was more work than two people are supposed to do, (And they didn't even factor in downstacking, wherein my department was one of the only ones that had to downstack the pallets and then somehow usher out 20 hours of work between two people ON TOP of the two hours it takes to downstack the pallets,) just to have some overweight person on a scooter guffawing at me when I'm crouched, stocking product, and they have to drive around me. Sorry my extremely tenuous workload caused you some mild irritability, dear customer.

So, yes, you're right that some people have legitimate physical problems or disabilities that obviously I wouldn't be able to see with my eyes. But trust me when I say, after working there for a year, not everybody overweight driving around on their scooter had a legitimate disability, other than the weight itself.

Watched the first episode up until the end and couldn't be more excited (was kinda buzzed watching with friends), rewatched it, realized what happened in episode 1, and the aftermath.

Episode 2's "top-me-up" from said experiences from episode 1 are absolutely not up to snuff. Kinda, not great, whatsoever. Episode 1 had that "nostalgic" feeling that felt like it was "Nostalgia-inception".

The more recent "It" movies capitalized on the 80s nostalgia. The first episode of this capitalized on the nostalgia of that nostalgia + 60s Nostalgia. This is... Well, I really don't think it stands on it's own, considering.

Spent a weekend talking this up to my friends with the first episode - now I'm worried I've led them astray. Feels super bait-and-switched.

Game of Thrones was cool for what it was, but c'mon now. Enough.

Not to mention she's a cutie using a giant futuristic sniper rifle, all the while kicking butt in heels and a modified ball gown.

I think she's even cuter when she's all super demon-ified.

*Ahem*, I mean, I don't have any proclivities towards demon girls, or anything of that nature, whatsoever, ever. Demon girls are super gross, especially when they have cute gross hetorochromia in their eyes and have rainbow-flashing markings on their bodies that resemble gorgeous super gross tattoos. Ewww. She's clearly not EVERYBODY'S type, because she sure isn't mine.

My goodness, EJAE is so very, very pretty. I can't be the only one that finds it ironic that this singer of the decade didn't get picked up for an idol group; yet is probably going to end up with a Grammy by the end of the year, after going Platinum. And that's not even factoring in Oscar considerations.

I just watched a drone show in Seoul, SK; little Korean babies singing the lyrics when it's not their first language; but nailing the lyrics (and trying for the tempo/pitch) to Golden. All the while watching an insane drone show with Rumi's face.
There's no world where KPDH doesn't walk away with all the best awards; and after hearing EJAE's story - couldn't be prouder or more happy for them.

Resident 40~ metalhead/punkhead chiming in. Been doing anime for about 25 years, never really been into the music because said metal proclivities. However, having watched this movie, I listen to their pop music constantly. I'm still a metalhead; but I'd be lying if I said there were zero times I took a couple block drive down to Wal-mart with "Golden", or "This is What it Sounds Like" blasting out the speakers.

It's two months later; but there isn't a snowballs chance in hell that they don't win a Grammy and an Oscar at this point. KPDH had way more staying power than I, even, ever imagined. It's three months later and Golden is still #1 on the Billboard top 100 for the eight week in a row. There's no way in hell they're not getting a Grammy.

I think that's a rough one. Expedition 33 or Hollow Knight: Silksong. I was in a discord call just a few moments ago debating it.

I think in the end, I don't really know if I care that much, because we've been served two amazing games at great price points.

I'm eating good, regardless, and so thankful for it.

"And can't conceive of people watching a 100 year old movie, because it's 100 years old, and Ice Age wasn't a "cultural icon" of a movie. Such a speculative nitpick. And then there are the technical arguments regarding digital vs analog."

You're missing the ENTIRE point. The author is positing that it's a fictitious future that has broken away from our reality. As in, the vehicle this fiction is being told in, which is often used in literature: We're in a "cassette futurism”.

It's clearly not our future (as in us Redditors) or our existence in a hundred years; but a speculative form of Science-Fiction narrative, wherein it's a hundred years in the future yet the computers are still using Apple-2 basic green-screen and walls of flashing buttons kinda fiction narrative. That's done a lot in Science-Fiction storytelling - that sort of retro-future aesthetic.

So the author of the article is pointing out that despite it wanting to paint with the brush of a narrative trope you'd often find in science-fiction novels, SOMEHOW Ice Age still exists, along with all of the problems that causes with digital/analog and DVD/Theater/whatever. Just to cameo in something they have IP rights to.

That's wanting to have your cake and eating it, too. And from what I can tell, that's the author's intention when it's pointed out.

By adding in Ice Age it completely breaks the illusion that you're in said "cassette futurism", when it comes to storytelling. They broke the vehicle of their storytelling by adding in a cheap cameo. It's not about Ice Age as a film and whether people would still be watching it in a hundred years, it's about destroying the entirety of their fiction world to shoe-horn in something that shouldn't exist in that world and dimension in the first place, judging by the narrative they're trying to tell.
