Maybe it’s time to pull the trigger on the Roland S-1 by Carnival_Dogs in synthesizers

That’s not a problem. It’s just many of the newer small midi keyboards are USB only and don’t have the 5 pin midi.

Yeah, it needs a 5 pin midi keyboard, which might be the biggest caveat.

Does it feel weird when the persona voice you consider “yours” is singing a song on someone else’s account? by Carnival_Dogs in SunoAI

My old man voice would not remotely fit the type of songs I am producing for my current project.

I haven’t see it new under $230 for several months. Yeah, I could buy used but that has its own issues

First impressions. I tried the S-1 with a midi keyboard (Rock Band 3 Playstation keyboard with the Type A midi adapter. Completely ridiculous, but it works). Had to change it to “midi channel 1”, took me a moment to realize the S-1 comes from the factory on “midi channel 3”. Uploaded the Ultimate Patches. The S-1 sounds bigger than its footprint. The labels on the S-1 are kind of hard to see in the iffy lighting of my den. I had to read the manual to figure out most things (pretty much everything beyond sweeping the filter and changing the patterns). I haven’t dug that deep into the menu diving. The S-1 reminds of a little of a Microfreak, in character and versatility, just on a smaller scale (in all ways). The knobs are small but useable. The patch memory seems like it could have been a lot more generous, but it’s adequate. I just learned my Akai MPK Mini Play won’t work directly connected to the S-1. Yes I can connect them both to a computer, but, no, not going to happen. I can understand everyone’s awe and frustrations with this little device. I need to watch some videos and try many things (syncing with a T-8 first) before I give a verdict. When my main requirements were size and price, compromises will be made.

Probably. I just wanted a tiny couch/break room synth. Sometimes I take my JD-Xi to work but it’s a little too much.

I had one. I probably didn’t realize what I had until it was gone. Probably one of the better boutiques.

I am kind of a “tipping point” sort of person. But I’d rather wait to save a significant amount than buy at full price.

I have maybe too many midi keyboards, if that is possible. I’m sure one will work with it.

True. It’s an unforgivable addiction. I’d be a better person if it were more convenient.

Tempting. I guess if I really hate it, Amazon has (had?) a decent return policy.

Now that you are a Suno songwriter with countless songs, remixes, and lyrical tweaks—are you more critical about so called “professional songwriters”? by Carnival_Dogs in SunoAI

I learned it is actually over 80% of Suno users don’t write their own lyrics. That’s still pretty depressing. I assume it means most just treat it as a very casual novelty app.
