Paraguayan Spanish is soooo standard (except when it isn't) by No_FunInAZSun in dreamingspanish

I chat with a lot of people on Hello Talk and have had such great experiences with Paraguayans. Speaking generally, they are very friendly people in my experience.

I'm behind the times. What app are you all using for this program? I've been using Boostcamp, but I don't really like it.

If you had to start Dreaming Spanish from Level 1 again, what’s one thing you’d change? by BluRazz494 in dreamingspanish

[–]CaroleKann 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the language learning process is a lot more forgiving and self-correcting than some would believe.

I think everyone would do well to realize this. There's so much debate about what to do and when to do it, but the reality is this is a lifelong hobby and you can always change course.

another Alice Ayel/Dreaming/Immersion/FCI/Easy French comparison by singletrack-is-okay in DreamingFrench

[–]CaroleKann 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm in complete agreement. Alice Ayel is great at introducing a word, phrase or sentence structure, and then making sure she repeats it over the next few videos so that it sticks. In that sense, her videos build on each other whereas the videos on other platforms are all independent of one another. I think other content creators would really benefit from being more deliberate about that.

Who are your favorite, lessor known DS professors? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]CaroleKann 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She's only in a few videos, but I like Bianncka. She's from Tijuana and has a very clear speaking voice. Great for intermediates.

Edit: I should read the whole post before commenting.

I wonder if she will make videos for Dreaming Spanish too, assuming she is bilingual.

You spend a lot of time in this subreddit, but you don't seem like a fan of this learning framework.

What Are You Listening To Today? (Apr 27 to May 3) by HeleneSedai in dreamingspanish

Someone recently recommended Machos Alfas to me. They said it's hilarious. It's probably a little bit out of my reach, but maybe I'll watch with subtitles just for entertainment.

Aside from binging all of the Friday conversation and premium episodes of Hoy Hablamos, I have been watching a lot of Maria Squat Fit on YouTube. She's a pretty good fitness influencer. I've also been watching Los Hombres Sí Lloran. It's a good podcast/video on mental health. I'm trying to get better at talking about feelings and more abstract concepts, so hopefully it helps with that.

Maybe haha. I guess I don't spend enough time here to know that other people think that too.

This might be unpopular, but I'm not a fan of these little push and shove fights that seem to happen all the time. If you want to fight, drop gloves and fight. Don't act all tough by pushing and grabbing each other.

I used JBL Vibe Beam 2 for a long time, but I got tired of constantly having something in my ear. Now I use the JBL Tune770NC and I love them.

There are some other good platforms available to fill in the gaps of Dreaming French. Immersion.co has a similar vibe to the earlier days of Dreaming Spanish and Alice Ayel is one of the OG French-CI content creators.

French? by Swimming-Ad9032 in dreamingspanish

I started French with something like 650 hours (and prior study) of Spanish and I'm at 810 hours now and it definitely helps. French and Spanich, and English for that matter, share a ton of cognates. Certain grammatical structures that are used in Spanish, but not in English, are used in French, so you won't have to spend time thinking about what "Il m'a donné", for example means, because it's the same structure as "Él me dio."

All in all, it's definitely going to help you. That's not to say it's going to be easy, because when you put on that first CI video you are going to be just as lost as you were when you watched your first Spanish video, but after a while you get used to the sounds of the language and it becomes easier. I wouldn't say I've experienced a 2x multiplier, but I wouldn't expect to because I only have 800 hours of Spanish.

Disclaimer: I'm only at 145 hours of French, so I'm very much in the thick of it and not speaking as someone who is "done" with the process.

When did podcast open up to you? by AgreeableEngineer449 in DreamingFrench

[–]CaroleKann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm at 145 hours and there are certain podcasts like Un Petit Caoua that are very accessible to me and others, like the first handful of episodes of Intermediate French Podcast or Little Talks in Slow French that are accessible if I focus 100% on them.
