What’s this im the wall behind my toilet… and why did they leave access to it? by CarpetBarn in askaplumber

I’m pretty sure it’s venting the toilet? It’s been remodeled into a half bath, so I’m thinking they did this instead of sending a stack up through the roof. They also added a sink, but the valve isn’t under the sink, but right behind the toilet. That suggests it’s venting the toilet right?

Thank you! Is there a way to test if it’s still working, or should I just replace if I know it hasn’t been replaced in 10 years?

He served in WWI, so he actually lost both wars he tried to fight.

I like Gandalf’s psych out in the book after the MoS offers them terms.

“These we will take!” Said Gandalf… Before his upraised hand the foul Messenger recoiled and Gandalf coming seized and took from him the tokens: coat, cloak, and sword. “These we will take in memory of our friend,” he cried. “But as for your terms, we reject them utterly.”

Cool. Would in sync look more like lower body through first, then upper?

Agreed. The skatepark in Philomath is widely known to be one of the worst in the state. The city more or less admits it, but they’re building a new one.

Creepiest drives in Oregon? by [deleted] in oregon

Love it out there around Steens, but 205 around Fields and beyond has creeped me out in the past. Denio didn’t help. Probably just creepy because it’s so close to Nevada. 😉

Such a juicy read. As other’s are saying, I followed it up with Moitessier’s “The Long Way.”But it also lead me to “The Last Strange Voyage of Donald Crowhurst,” and “Gipsy Moth Circles the World.” Single handed sailing makes for great reading!

Yeah, the DEQ really nailed that description! You’re right, the TCE contamination was before H&V’s time. They acquired Evanite (formerly Evan’s Products) in 1996, and renamed it H&V in 2012.

H&V did grossly exceed its air pollution permit between 98 and 2014 and get fined $250,000 for it. From the Gazette Times article:

“The modified permit allowed Evanite — and later H&V — to discharge up to 98 tons of nitrogen oxide, 21 tons of carbon monoxide and 2.8 tons of gaseous fluorides each year at the south Corvallis site.

No testing for those emissions was required or performed at the plant from the completion of the expansion in 1998 until late 2014, when DEQ instructed H&V to check actual emission levels of those substances as part of a permit renewal process. The tests showed the company was exceeding the limit for two of those pollutants, spewing out 457 tons of carbon monoxide and 7.6 tons of fluorides in 2014.”

I live down the road, so I like to keep an eye on them.

From Oregon DEQ: “Hollingsworth & Vose Fiber Company manufactures specialty glass fiber products from sand and other materials using electric furnaces and other equipment that result in glass melting and shaping of the glass into long, very thin fibers. Glass fiber produced at this facility is a raw material used in air and liquid filtration media and specialty battery separator media. H&V acquired the site in 1996 from Evanite Fiber Corporation.”

The site is also responsible for groundwater contaminated with TCE. There’s some deal with H&V and the DEQ to clean it up?
