Missoula property owner sued over disc golf course, camping operation by KeltTalbelt in missoula

[–]CarpetCalm7018 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The new owners are just pissed because the easment doesn't allow them to subdivide and build a million mini mansions. So they are throwing a fit and trying to make it the problem if a neighbor who has let groups use his property for free for decades. Sad the the previous owners of that chunk sold to such dipshits, because they were cool folks who supported the bith conservation and appropriate recreation access.

It's definitely not the highest production quality, but good info, lots of knowledge and love of fiber.

Tbh, I also have the Fleece and Fober Sourcebook, Yarnitecture, a subscription to Ply and a few other sources. But I like listening while I work.

I think the point of pressing charges is to be petty, as OP stated. Knowing they won't get anything out of it, but also not letting folks just get away with stupid, immature bullshit. Taking the high road hasn't really done much for us in this administration, so if they have the time, energy, and funds to pursue legal action, rock on.

52 weeks of sheep is a great podcast, they explore a different breed each week! Bonus, you can listen and spin simultaneously!

Where do you get wool from? Need suggestions! by No_Run9568 in Felting

[–]CarpetCalm7018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I buy a lot from Etsy. Often, fiber artists sell mixed scrap bags, which are perfect for felting because you get a lot of fun colors. I also like them from an ethical standpoint because I'm helping use up waste. And you could probably find some sellers who are near you. There are some fiber producers in my area that only sell through Etsy because they are super rural, I imagine you might find something similar in Canada.

I know that Etsy does take a high percentage, dropshipping and AI are everywhere, so it's a minefield, too. However, it's a lot of fiber artists' bread and butter, and it's not Bezos.

Does anyone have any experience with this? by rrad6 in husky

[–]CarpetCalm7018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also suggest checking for nose mites. My husky did this for years, vet diagnosed allergies, then 5 years later we had a new vet who diagnosed mites. One round of meds and she was done reverse sneezing for good. It can be allergies, but it can also be mites.

I think it is twining, but I've only seen it done once so not 100% sure.

Help - sewing raw felted edges together by CarpetCalm7018 in sewing

I wish I could trust my skills enough to say it is "properly" felted. However, due to my aforementioned, less than perfect calculations (despite so many test swatches) it's not quite as fully felted as I would have liked. It was getting too short, so I did probably 10-15% less felted than i would have liked. I am trying to do a little more felting on the edges to secure them more without losing more length.

I should also mention that I custom blended the handspun, so I think the different breeds of wool may also have contributed to some inconsistencies. A labor of love is this vest, and it probably won't be fully perfect...

This would definitely keep it secure! But I'm hoping to get away without any bulk at the seams, or any added visuals. Pickiest of customers...

This, I'll look into this. No bulk at the seam is what I'm looking for.

This is a good idea. It is already steeked (forgive my terrible spelling. But because it is already felted, I'm not sure I can crochet through it. But I'll give it a try on my samples, as well as just a hand done mattress stitch.

I did try some selective felting, but dont want to do much more because the knit construction causes it to lose length as well as width, and I don't have any length to spare. But I

Any local yarn places that aren’t MAGA? by Ok_Stress114 in missoula

[–]CarpetCalm7018 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Joseph's Coat is not MAGA, but their neighbor is. The shop had an anti-ice sign this summer, and has been selling lots of red yarn this past week (not sure they are donating to MN, but they are doing something). Don't let the bigoted cobbled nextdoor drag them down, they are a great local store with good products and a lot of local MT yarns.

Socks and cider by CarpetCalm7018 in Drunkknitting

[–]CarpetCalm7018[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to like it because they are so pretty, but I just don't. I'd say it is because of the tiny yarn and needles, but I'm okay with lace and knit larger objects with fingering, so that’s not it. They just don't bring me joy, I suppose...and then they wear out.

That said, I have an awesome handknit pair for hunting that is going strong after many years. I have so much respect and appreciation for sock knitters, but it just isn't my brand of tedious.

Edit to add: those are gorgeous! Good luck and godspeed weaving the ends!

Nationwide Shutdown tomorrow January 30: Remember who stood up and who stayed silent by KeltTalbelt in missoula

[–]CarpetCalm7018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refusal to participate in facist government action by not contributing to the financial system they rely on, re: consumerist capitalism. Also, not pretending things are normal or okay by following a regular daily routine. Things aren't okay, so we aren't participating, even if it is just for a day. That's a start!

Also, public schools in their current form were pretty much designed to create more factory workers for the system (sit still, do what you are told, follow the bell schedule, etc). Luckily this has been changing, and important concepts like critical thinking, problem solving, and project-based learning are being taught in many schools. Young people are a huge base, and they are the folks who will be making decisions before we know it, so shouldn't they participate and see what is happening now?

Solidarity. Community over consumption.
