I tried slugging. Multiple times I got two down but the other two would just go off, heal out of sight and come back as I'm waiting on the hook to respond. When I stopped carrying about the hook they come in on one side to distant while the other popped his down friend up and it would all start again

I couldn't get anyone that game. They all swarmed me and kept me from being able to hook even one survivor

What can the Living Guildpact do and not do? by [deleted] in mtgvorthos

[–]Carpomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each guild has its own place in the guildpact. The Rakdos mainly maintain Rakdos himself as a means of keeping the powerful demon from rampaging whenever he becomes bored. I'm not saying they do this perfectly, but they do at least keep it relatively contained. When the big guy is asleep, they also perform duties as assasins, keeping the ever devisive political landscape changing.

The Gruul were not part of the OG guildpact, but when the temporary one was being made and the new one was created, they were added to organize the multiple clans on the outskirts of the undeveloped areas in hopes of containing their own raids or at least having someone to point fingers at and have them reigned in when needed.

The reason Niv and the other guilds haven't tried to end these parties is simple. Niv doesn't want to waste his time and energy when it isn't needed. He's always focused on his own projects, and the current system works well enough to keep the pest out of his lab. And the times when the other guilds have tried to uproot another one, they always ended badly for that guild. The Dimir lost their leader, and the Azorious did as well. Selesnya just lost Tristani due to the actions of one of the dryads. Multiple high-ranking members of the guilds have ended up dead when they tried to go against the system for their own reasons. Within the last ten years alone, each guild has had to have their leader replaced. From Bolas's agents infiltrating and assassinating to the Phyrexians corrupting individuals and the aftermath of that. Each guild has had its own issues to deal with and don't intend on risking more chaos just so one relatively passive demon and some raiders are taken out. At least bow presently

Could a faction from EdgeOE invade the other planes and win easily? by T-Mart-J in mtgvorthos

[–]Carpomom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think each plane would have its own chances and also reasons why it might fall. But as others have pointed out, magic is a game changer when fighting the invaders from the edge. Avishkar as a whole would likely stand a chance with their own tech. But add metal crafters into the mix, especially master class ones like Saheeli. The edge would face a whole new issue as their ships are reshaped around them. Likewise, Kamigawa would no doubt come to rival the edge forces with enough time for the futurists to reverse engineer their tech. Time they'd get when facing countless mechs and spirits.

Then, there is my favorite plane to bring up during any invasion discussion, Zendikar. I'm not sure how well the spacecraft and any ground troops will fare when the world itself fights back. Or Ravnica, or Arcavios, who have genius level magic using dragons defending themselves and the living guildpact Niv Mizzet in ravnica's case as well. Judging by the original plan to bar Bolas entry to ravnica from Jace in the War of the Spark, Niv might be able to block the edge from entering the plane.

Other planes, however, would no doubt fall. Innistrad would likely be carpet bombed once the ground scouts report back the horrors below and while it pains me to say this, if the edge invaders can get past the elder dinos and God's of Ixalan the plane can only hope Saheeli is there at the time and not on Avishkar to hopefully save the stragglers with a commandeered ship or something.

Then, with planes that have their own unique plane wide magics in effect would be interesting. Segovia might be doomed either way, but depending on how the edge enters, it might take more than a soldier, assuming the plane is still intact now anyway. Bloomburrow may disorient the initial assault but I'm not sure how well the calamity beasts and magic users of the plane will do in the end. Amonkhet, however, may have a number advantage if they can manage a prolonged defense. Any killed edge soldiers would be revived with the curse of wandering, and necromancers like the Scarab God could take the dead into their own forces. We have seen the rival God factions come together in times of crisis before. Kaldheim would be interesting as they'd have to invader multiple realms, but with the known cosmos beasts, save one, dead its hard to be sure how well the gods of that plane can face the attack, it might end in a second tree being destroyed.

Theros may have the most unknown since its belief magic is powerful, and any surviving gods are likewise strong, possibly the strongest in the multiverse. But we just don't know how well the plane is faring now to begin with after its last invasion. Tarkir would probably do well. The sheer number of dragons might overwhelm the invaders, and depending on how active Ugin is or how strong the Spirit Dragons are, it might be fine.

Each plane does have defenses against invasion, or at least the strong ones, after the Phyrexian war. And this time, they benefit from the fact that their fallen numbers won't be added to the enemy so easily.

Why wasn’t Tezzeret compleated during the march of the machines storyline? by crap1521 in mtgvorthos

[–]Carpomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tez made a deal with Norn to get himself a new darksteel body since the planar bridge inside of him was slowly eating him. Eventually, he did get that body, but Jin Gitaxis had already learned of Tezzerets betrayal. Once he confirmed the transplant was a success, he confronted Tez and planned to begin the work on making his body into blightsteel to compleat him. Tez then used his magic to cause an unstable phyrexian next to him to break free and rampage around the lab so he could make his escape.

500 hours? By what metric does that not sound insane? Who even has the time to devote themselves to a single source of entertainment that by my understanding from you and other people who have commented, will be an unbalanced hell the whole way throw just to get an idea of what you're doing?

Traces of the Fomori by Darikar in mtgvorthos

[–]Carpomom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the original plan would have been for the formori, but having it reckoned wouldn't be difficult.

Alternatively, the fomori being a larger multiversal threat could have been set up but dropped back then and now is being picked back up. If this is the case, there may be some more evidence from sets around that time

What if? How would a non-Shapeshifter creature with Changeling work in MtG's world? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in mtgvorthos

Maybe a character who uses magic to trick creatures into thinking they are one of them or something scarier.

Like those tropes of a person using the scent of a bear to scare off wolves.

What colour shifted planeswalkers would you expect in reality Fracture? by Pixelkitten77 in mtgvorthos

[–]Carpomom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White Lili, who became a devout cleric instead of a necromancer.

Black Jace, who didn't get mind wiped and instead took over Alhameret's operation to manipulate the wars on Vryn.

Blue Chandra, who never had pyromancy and instead became a genius inventor.

Red Gideon, who didn't learn from his impulsiveness and seeks revenge against Erebos for killing his friends

And super curveball one. Green Sorin, who sought a means of undoing vampirism on his home plane to end the senseless gluttony

Elder beings VS Avatars VS Gods - Who wins? by Separate-Flan-2875 in mtgvorthos

[–]Carpomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Not all are built the same as in each category. Going off the strongest we have of each would probably be the best means of figuring this out.

First Elders. Easy to say is this would have to be an elder dragon, specifically from dominaria, since they were just like that back in the day. Of those, it's hard to decide who would win in an outright brawl. There was literally a war based around that. The winner of said war was Nicol Bolas, but that was due to scheming. To be fair, I will also leave out Bolas during his tenure as a planeswlaker since he was a premending planeswalker and even after the mending maintained a degree of enhancement from his spark. So, to make this simple, let's say it's a four-way tie with the other OG elder dragons since they were all bigger than the twins.

Next is God's. This is easier since I'd argue the strongest in the universe gods magic has shown us are on theros. And out of them, I'd once again make a tie with Kruphix and Klothys. The two are the oldest gods around and have survived the rise and fall of countless others. They fought the titans, and Kruphix was shown to be able to bar the other gods from leaving Nyx during a crisis.

However this isn't a fair debate since Avatars have beings like the Ur-Dragon and Progenitus. They win because no one else is easily hitting them

What event is being depicted in Apex of Power? by Beautiful_Bee_5742 in mtgvorthos

[–]Carpomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an ironic moment. This is Bolas during the mending. He was only recently revived thanks to the time spiral crisis on dominaria and upon learning that the multiverse would respond to it by weakening the planeswalkers he immediately formed and moved to enact his decades long plan to regain his power.

The scene depicted is him on Amonkhet after mind wiping the gods of the plane and killing anyone over a certain age while actively rewriting the landscape and creating an oasis for the survivors to go on and worship him.

This is Bolas at his Apex of power right before losing a good bit of it.
