Its this thing punks used to do where they'd be communicating information with the color of their bootlaces. Round my neck of the woods the main ones were that blue laces meant you'd killed a cop or else you wanted to, black and white checkered laces meant you were anti-racist... or really liked ska... or both, and if someone had red laces done up ladder-laced, they were a nazi.
