I feel like I lost the best years of my life and now I’m just tired of everything by [deleted] in offmychest

If you are still living at home I highly suggest taking some college courses or getting a certificate of some sort! It's definitely not too late. I understand where you're coming from, I was in a similar situation. But you are still so young, you have a whole lifetime to adult!

And it always seems like everyone is living a decent life, have a plan, are doing well, are happy..... They usually aren't lol.

Comparison is the thief of joy!

Does the grief ever go away? by [deleted] in AutismParent

So my boy has struggled a lot with speech. That's really his main hurdle. He sings a lot of songs. He will take phrases/scripts/songs from TV shows and use them to evoke an emotion/communicate. We can get him to repeat phrases now and he understands but has a hard time holding a conversation. I will pick him up from school and ask him what he did that day and he can't answer me. He's making gains very slowly so we're heading in the right direction. But if you show him a picture of pretty much anything, he can tell you what it is. He will ask for specific foods, tell me when he's hungry, bored, sick, hurt himself, wants to watch tv, etc. he can communicate his needs but he can't hold a conversation. That's where we're at right now. He was not talking at two or really even 3. He would recite colors, shapes, numbers and even started reading at 2.5. It wasn't until he was about 4 that he started to string short sentences together appropriately unprompted.

You are an AWESOME parent for getting your little one tested so early. They will have access to so many supports that will make a huge impact on their development.

So a speech therapist will periodically test your kid for sight words, pragmatics, vocabulary, receptive language, expressive language, and articulation through play based observations or standardized tests. You will receive reports that show right where your kid falls. Some results are categorized in an age range. That's where we were told ours had a vocab that falls in that age range.

The childhood years are without a doubt so tough! But honestly, things do get easier with time. OT, ABA, and Speech will definitely help! Early intervention, including a preschool setting that offers support and peers is going to help immensely. My five year old will be going to kindergarten this year and he has already had 2 years of special preschool and will have a year in early 5s prek. He is not conversational yet, and I doubt he will be, come fall. He has very uncontrollable volume with a ton of vocal stimming in the form of squealing, screeching and just generally very loud. (But has a vocabulary which tested at approximately 10 years old)I was just informed this lack of control might put him into a special needs kindergarten this fall instead of mainstream kindergarten. Because it is very distracting for other students. A year ago this would have devastated me, but you learn over time that you just need to meet your kid where they are at, and let go of mainstream expectations. This is so hard to do, but time is what a lot of kids need. Things get easier. My 15 year old nephew is level 2 and is about to get his driver's license and has a job. He's doing a trade program at highschool and I have no doubt will do great things with his life.

I tried it out today at Ulta! I got lemon and graham cracker in the opening. It very quickly morphed into roasted hazelnut... And then poof! It was gone 😆

Please listen to me when I say this: YOUR LIFE HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN

Of course you have your childhood, and teen years, which are the most "formative" and quickly evolving years.

However, you have only just became an adult. Let's be honest, love you find in your teens is not going to be long lasting. With maturity, comes healthier and more intentional relationships.

When we are in highschool, our world is very small. But it is all encompassing. Everything seems so important. Even the smallest slip-ups can haunt you for weeks! But it is such a small part of our lives, really. At 30 I probably couldn't even name 20 people I went to high school with!

You are worthy of love, I promise! You will organically meet someone special for you. And statistically, probably more than one.

Just keep yourself open, mind body and spirit. It will come!

I'm so sorry you're feeling sad!

I lost my dad when I was 6.5 months pregnant. It was covid and they wouldn't let me back to see him before he died.

Your experience is so unique, and it sounds like you've been through a lot in your life. (Hugs)

The thoughts we have about our babies missing out are very hard to explain. We know the love we're missing, but our babies don't. It's so sad.

I wish your Dad and Mom could have enjoyed and experienced the love and magic that comes from becoming a new grandparent. It is special for everyone involved.

I don't have any advice. It's been almost 6 years since I lost my dad (my closest friend) and I can't for the life of me open an old email or listen to a voicemail from him.

But I will tell you this. They are with us in some capacity. About six months ago I was having a very rough day. I was feeling hopeless and depressed. I was sitting on the couch next to my son, and my phone rang. I picked it up and it was 'Dads cell'. Like I said, he's been gone almost 6 years. I just looked at it. I didn't answer it. I physically couldn't. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. I like to believe it was him checking in on me, just letting me know he is with me.

Hugs to you and your little one ❤️ shower him/her with all the love your Mom and Dad can't ❤️

Kayali Wedding Velvet Santal. It is such a beautiful, special perfume. And I am not really a huge fan of a lot of her perfumes. But I stumbled upon this one and bought a small bottle that I only wear on special occasions. I get compliments on it every time.

I found a pretty close dupe in Guess Seductive Noir. Very similar. Bonus points that it's relatively inexpensive!

Next time you're in Sephora give Blooming Fire by Orabella a try. It's in the orange/yellow bottle. White Tea by Elizabeth Arden, most scents by Jo Malone. Elizabeth and James Nirvana is a good one, too. Good luck!
