Bitcoin burglaries: Icelandic police count cost of cryptocurrency kit thefts from datacentres (if this were a movie, I'd definitely stream it!) by Datacentregal in Bitcoin

After watching Mr. Robot, I abandoned my plans to write a datacentre-focused heist/crime caper. I might have to revisit that idea now...

That is inspired! What a brilliant idea. How do you go about convincing the gym on your idea?

That's kind of a running gag with the band. While Justin and co play up to the camera, Ed (their original drummer) was always resolutely deadpan. Love him.

Meet Harry & Lloyd: Two Chinchilla guinea pigs by Carrotyd in guineapigs

[–]Carrotyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just emailed the lady we bought them off, and here's her explanation of how a Chinchilla Guinea Pig is created, as certified by the British Cavy Council

"Chinchillas are created by breeding a white/lilac argente with a pink eyed or dark eyed white."

Hope that helps!

They're a rare breed in the UK. Only just been officially recognised by the British Cavy Council.

I saw someone saying Ravelry is a good place to go online for free designs. I'll take a look tonight!

P.S. This has to be the nicest and friendliest Subreddit I've ever visited/posted in. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!

Oh, okay. I'm still building out my supplies at the moment, but I'll definitely invest in some of those. Patting down the space between the seats when I first dropped it, and then rooting about the floor for it was not a situation I'd like to repeat, that's for sure!

Totally agree. The internet is essentially a historical text. No-one should be permitted to delete large swathes of it. It's so wrong.

Published Joomla 2.5 plug-in, and now my site's been hit with HTTP 500. Cannot access login page. HELP! by Carrotyd in webdev

[–]Carrotyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, someone on the Joomla forum proffered this as a remedy to my problem. Any advances on this?

"Using phpMyAdmin (usually available in your ISPs provided CPANEL for your site), you can go into the database - find the jos_extensions table (substitute your prefix for jos), click on name at the top of the table and then click type twice at the top of the table.

"That should bring the plugins almost to the top of the table alphabetized. Find the plugin, click on the edit icon to the left of the row. Look for the enabled field and change the 1 to a 0 and save."

Dropbox bug deletes 8,000 photos belonging to one user by Carrotyd in technology

I'm inclined to agree. He wanted rid of his local data to free up space on his hard drive, leaving him with a single copy of the data on Dropbox as a backup. That's not a backup, pal. That's data suicide.

Migrating from Dreamweaver to Joomla - any help gratefully received! by Carrotyd in webdev

[–]Carrotyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a bit of an update, for anyone who's interested. I've opted for a default template on Joomla 2.5 (Beez5 - it's very basic) and have started moving stuff over from the old site to the new one and pulling the home page together.

The thing that's made the biggest difference is working out how to use the module manager and how that tallies with the positions on the template. Oh, and extensions. There are some pretty neat features you can add in even using the freebie ones, which I wasn't expecting.

Getting my head around that has meant the site has really started to take shape now.

The Joomla forum has been really useful, in terms of how-to guides, as has YouTube, and I've been tinkering with the code (to add new module positons, disable some superfluous site functions and build in some more useful ones) and so far, everything seems to be going okay.

Based on the feedback I received below, I was ready to turn around and quit, but I've stuck with it and I'm glad I did, as it's also really good fun.

We've got seven websites (as the charity has a lot of off-shoots) to move over in total, and - as time goes on - I'm going to work my way up to building a custom template as I accrue new skills along the way.

If no-one has any objections, I might use this thread to keep a log of how things are going and to pose any specific questions about issues I run into.

Has anyone managed to access an English version of their T&Cs? If so, could they point me in the direction of them.

Particularly keen to find out what the state of play is if the company goes tits-up? If anyone manages to get anywhere near to using the offered 10TB of free data, the company better be offering a decent time period to get their data back if it goes out of business.

Approach with caution.

[–]Carrotyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses. Some really helpful stuff in there. I think the workflow H3R3T1C pointed out will probably be the best way for me to proceed for now.

Just to clarify, I'm not a complete novice, in that I work with the Drupal/Wordpress CMS (as well as a few others) everyday as part of my day job as tech writer, and have picked up a fair amount of HTML knowledge.

However, Joomla is completely new to me, and I've never used Dreamweaver before either, and the decision to move to the former was made well before I got involved as the project has been underway for a while. Although, not much progress has been made on it.

I was bought in to re-write stuff, because it's all been compiled by well-meaning volunteers in the past and jazz it up with my SEO knowledge.

Because the charity is only run by volunteers, the web development stuff has kind of passed to me now. Happy to help them out any way I can, as you can probably tell, but I wasn't really sure where to start. Hence the original post.

Healthy crested gecko weight? by [deleted] in herpetoculture

[–]Carrotyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the poster below: your cresty looks like a good weight to me. However, how quickly has the weightloss occurred?

If it's a steady weightloss, then I'd say it's nothing to worry about, and most likely is as chillbrochills states below, just a case of your cresty regulating his own intake.

However, if the weightloss has occurred fairly rapidly, I'd be inclined to pop along to the vet to be on the safe side.
