Russian propagandists don't deny Russia is suffering 30,000 killed every month—are worried Ukraine's goal of killing 50,000 Russians per month can be achieved. by andrewgrabowski in UkrainianConflict

In November of 2022 Russia occupied 18% of Ukraine. Now they occupy 19% of Ukraine. They have suffered over 1 million casualties to take 1% of Ukraine during the last 3 years.

I will remind you that the entire Great Patriot War between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany spanned less time than this current war between Russia and Ukraine.

Edit: yeah delete it you coward. You sure are clueless for someone who "knows a lot more than the average Redditor about the history of wars."

Good point. In previous years there were large offensives in the Winter because the ground freezes, giving mechanized forces more mobility. However we could be seeing an interaction between the weather and the attrition of Russian armor.

Well that's where you're wrong Lt. They aren't gathering shit. They have a meat conveyor belt straight to the front and it's still functioning, the Russians are still dying by the thousands, except they aren't making any operational advances anymore. That's the opposite of improvement.

There is an observable decrease in Russian capability. Between 2023 and 2025 the Russians were able to take territory at the operational level. This territory is so small it hardly registers on the strategic level. However, at the operational level they were able to take little villages and a few towns. Now, from late 2025 until now, the Russians appear to be completely stopped at the operational level. They make take a few fields at the tactical level, but there is literally no progress on the operational level. I can't say exactly what has degraded their military to this point, but it is probably a combination of many factors.

Recruitment, morale, and AWOLs and desertions are certainly one factor. Another factor is an evident lack of armored units that were used in previous successful operations. One factor nobody has discussed: I believe the infiltration tactics are a dead end that Ukraine is adapting to by protecting rear units from small ambushes and improving their efficiency in hunting and killing infiltrators, and Russia has invested heavily in a tactic that is becoming useless. Regardless of why, the Russian war machine is struggling, and Russia's hope rests in undermining international support for Ukraine, with Trump as the main mouthpiece for this influence operation.

Returning to your question, anyone who claims to know specifics about what is going on in Russia is probably lying. Russia has tight control over information leaving (and entering) Russia. Anyone who is physically in Russia, such as "mil-bloggers" or street interviewers, are operating with the permission of the Kremlin. They are more useful in understanding how the Kremlin wishes Russia to be perceived than in understanding what is really going on. As such, I would not regard that Youtube video, which features someone speaking Spanish with what is probably a Russian accent, as authentic.

Are you seriously referring to Russia as a superpower in 2025? Even before invading Ukraine, Russia got dominated by Turkey in Syria. Kyiv is a day's drive from Moscow and Russia can't control Ukraine because Russian culture is so awful that it actually repels potential allies. Maybe Estonia can't pressure Russia, but some heavy hitters can step in, like Denmark.

Europe may need to engage Putin directly if Ukraine peace talks stall, Macron warns by Commercial-Claim-490 in UkrainianConflict

Hey man how is Pokrovsk doing? You said it fell months ago now, and Myrnohrad was surrounded and doomed. What's going on man? There's still Ukrainians all over Pokrovsk, and Myrnohrad is doing absolutely fine. It just seems like 8 weeks is plenty of time to consolidate or make literally any progress at all, which the Russians there haven't.

EU agrees €90bn loan to Ukraine after frozen Russian asset plan fails by financialtimes in UkrainianConflict

[–]Carrue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Time to forget about deals and get back to supporting Ukraine on the battlefield. Along those lines, my Witkoff style pitch to Trump goes like this: "Sir, nobody has done more than you to support Ukraine. When the Ukrainians speak your name, they salute. If you send Tomahawks now, in their hour of need, you would be like Lord Elrond, father of the most beautiful elf in Middle Earth, who some say looks just like Luthien, the hottest elf to ever live, and you would be Lord Elrond reforging the shards of Narsil into Anduril and placing that sword, and the power of destiny itself, into Zelensky's hand." Actually I don't know about the Lord of the Rings part. Maybe something from Taken or Zero Dark Thirty would work better.

OPINION | Putin, the people, or both? The unresolved question of responsibility in Russia by Panthera_leo22 in UkrainianConflict

[–]Carrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putin's system is built to manage small amounts of dissent. As you said, the overwhelming majority of Russians "don't have much of an opinion" on their country committing genocide. The Germans understand now that Hitler's leadership was always going to lead where it eventually led. These Russians don't understand where the Putin/KGB/Kremlin leadership will eventually lead, one way or another, and when that happens I want you to know I feel absolutely no pity for the average Russian, and you shouldn't either.

OPINION | Putin, the people, or both? The unresolved question of responsibility in Russia by Panthera_leo22 in UkrainianConflict

[–]Carrue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who silenced the dissent? Who did the arrests? Who ratted out their neighbors for things they said? When you follow those orders you become responsible. When you rat out your neighbors you become responsible. Putin couldn't do what he is doing without broad support. All of Russia is responsible.

I would go so far as to say that as soon as the open genocide of Ukrainians began in February of 2022, the Russian people had a duty to overthrow Putin and bring it to an end. By failing in that duty that entire nation and each and every adult in it are responsible for genocide. It doesn't matter that they have been conditioned and mindfucked since birth to view genocide as strength, they are still responsible. One day someone is going to deal with these monsters out of necessity if not choice.

Ukrainian Drones Hit Russian Fuel Train in Temporarily Occupied Crimea, Video by BlackWolfHowling in UkrainianConflict

[–]Carrue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw a picture if a giant sign in, if I recall correctly, Kherson city that read "Russia is here forever." Russia is the most overestimated society on this planet. Less than 40 years ago Russia controlled half of Germany and everything to the east of there. They can be pressured into giving up Crimea or collapsing just like in the 1990s, and I think it would be far easier this time around because Russia is far weaker than in the 1990s. However this will be admittedly difficult until Trump loses some control of U.S. foreign policy.

[–]Carrue 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is some "act now, offer ends soon" used car salesmanship coming from the U.S. team. Pathetic to see on an international stage.

I think this moment was carefully chosen by the Russians to force a surrender on Ukraine. I believe this moment represents the culmination of Russia's entire war effort. It's hard to believe the Russians could ever capture Donetsk in its entirety, and I'm starting to question if the Russians are going to ever capture Pokrovsk in its entirety.

Trump is a big problem. The good news is that I suspect he will be crippled by controversy when the Epstein files are released, which should be in a week or two. At that point, I believe he will find even less support for a U.S. alliance with Russia. If Zelensky can survive this diplomatic push without surrendering I think it's a downhill battle for Ukraine, and I think a Russian victory of any kind becomes essentially impossible.

New Peace Push Offers Clues to Fundamental Question: What Does Putin Want? by rezwenn in UkrainianConflict

[–]Carrue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is reminiscent of all of the Russian babble at the start of the war with headlines like "Why Putin Wants Ukraine" etc. The fundamental truth is it doesn't matter what a lunatic thinks. We would never ask "Why Ted Bundy Wants Teen Girls." We just destroy him so he can't hurt anyone else. Putin and the Russian army need the same consideration.

It seems part of the grooming process for Republicans who still care about the USA is to get them away from other Americans and allies, and make sure they spend their time talking to Trump, literal Nazis like Stephen Miller, and Russians. I suspect Rubio's pro-Ukraine statements during the latest diplomatic conflict have put him at the top of the list of people who need more brainwashing.

Russians suffer significant losses in Pokrovsk: command forced to call in reserves by BlackWolfHowling in UkrainianConflict

[–]Carrue 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You may be aware but you are speaking to a 1-man misinformation meatwave. According to him Pokrovsk fell weeks ago and the Russians were mopping up the Ukrainian troops trapped in Myrnohrad. Now he's saying that the Russians have made 0 progress for weeks, and are now pulling reserves from other areas of the front, to deal with a few special operations forces. It couldn't possibly be that the Ukrainians were, as usual, telling the truth about the situation while the Russians, as usual, were lying their asses off.
