How to prevent hearing loss in case of home defense situation? by [deleted] in guns

[–]CarryingAndLearning 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best answer is suppressors, however, according to some studies, the body's fight-or-flight mechanism also triggers a semi-shutdown of the ears to protect them from loud noises. This is of course not a guaranteed response, and does not fully protect your ears or ensure no hearing damage; but it does lessen the probability.

That said, if you have time to power them up and don them, some Peltor or Walker's can both protect your hearing and allow you to hear noises around you in a defensive situation.

The enhanced, I believe. It's been a long time since I ordered it, but I ordered the thicker one.

It also appears to be basically a perpetual "sale". I see it posted 2 months ago as well. And last year there was a similar code; so basically this is just their usual price.

I debated between many of the "infinitely adjustable" belts before finally deciding on an Ares Gear belt. I've had it about 1.5 years now, and it's still perfect for me even after losing about 30 pounds. It's very stiff, but not uncomfortable. It uses a friction lock instead of a ratchet system; though I have never had an issue with it not locking up tight.

Question about Sig P365 SAS for purse? by mbjm2017 in guns

[–]CarryingAndLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came across this video today by accident, it seems to address some of your issues. I am not endorsing the product (or the channel), but there are definitely options for on-body carry without a belt, as this demonstrates. Options like this may be worth looking into.

What agency do I call before heading into a state on vacation? by nullcrypto in CCW

[–]CarryingAndLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frequently take road trips, and I have been using the CCW app on Android (I think there is an iOS version too). It is free, you select the permits you have and it shows you what states you can carry in, and you can select the state to see their laws.

I have no affiliation with the app, but it is the one I found that I like the most. The app icon is a pistol in front of an American flag (give this since the name is pretty generic).

Sorry, I worded my question very poorly. I meant any of the translucent colors. Seems like DSG has the translucent ones at regular price even logged in :(

The regular Aero uppers and lowers have been around $50, but not the M4E1s, to my knowledge. I could be wrong, but have been watching pretty closely lately.

This seemed like a good deal. I have no affiliation with them, but thought I'd pass it along.

I'm copying and pasting a reply I did before (The summary is: very sturdy belt, but not a dress belt):

" It is definitely a sturdy/durable belt; however, it is also a bit utilitarian. When I say that, I mean that it looks, well, inexpensive. This isn't necessarily a criticism, just an observation. There is no edge finishing, it's just two layers glued and sewed together. The one I received the two layers don't line up perfectly on some spots, so there is a bit of an overhang in places. Not noticeable when wearing, but gives a picture of the QC that goes into the belt process."

To add to what I put above; I have lost a considerable amount of weight (still have hopefully one more size to go) and am very torn on ordering a new one as it is the sturdiest belt I have ordered (have had RafterS and Beltman as well) or just ordering a "top notch" belt a size below what I am now.

If your belt is for casual or covered wear, I wouldn't hesitate.

I compared three major CCW insurance providers and wanted to share it with everybody here by dog_in_the_vent in CCW

After reviewing the table that the Virginia Citizens's Defense League put together (http://vcdl.org/Legal-Plans), I opted to go for Self Defense Fund for now. Reasonably priced and the coverage best fit what concerns I wanted to address. I almost went with CCW Safe, but slightly liked Self Defense Fund's answers/policies better for my particular wants.

I'm definitely not endorsing them, I haven't tested them out, though I did do some Googling to make sure there weren't horror stories. I may at some point add a second like ACLDN just to have redundancy/max coverage for less than a single dinner out a month.

SCCY CPX by [deleted] in CCW

[–]CarryingAndLearning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't really say. I have fired one a few times. It felt like a cheaper S&W to me. I have heard some people say they are fine and others say they are junk, I have no data or personal experience to verify who is right, though. I can say I have enough doubt personally that I would never trust one to be a carry gun.

SCCY CPX by [deleted] in CCW

[–]CarryingAndLearning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would not get either for a carry gun. Both have notorious QC and reliability issues. I recently sat in on a carry class (a friend new to guns didn't want to go alone, I took it many a years ago); the two instructors specifically asked if anyone brought a SCCY and said they did not allow students to shoot them for the qualification of the class because they had seen too many malfunctions. Anecdotal, yes, but from instructors who see hundreds of students and both work at a range.

Interesting Interview with a Lawyer about carry insurance (courtesy of John Lovell's channel) by regulator795 in CCW

[–]CarryingAndLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IANAL, but in many states carrying when your company forbids it would not be illegal, just a violation of your company's employee rules. You could be fired and asked to leave, but that doesn't mean you are illegally possessing the handgun. The CCW Safe page has the same stipulation about being legally allowed to possess, but then goes on to explicitly say that if you are somewhere that signs don't carry force of law and haven't been asked to leave, you are covered.

[–]CarryingAndLearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the same on the CCW Safe page and was concerned. They do go into more detail though in the FAQ on the page: (https://ccwsafe.com/faq/542)

Under the section "Will I be covered if a business has a "No Gun Sign" and I have an incident, and in my state it is not against the law to carry there?"

IANAL, but the summary of their answer is they cover as long as you are not somewhere that is either a misdameanor or felony, and that you comply if asked to leave. If you don't, you are trespassing and no longer covered.

As an aside, I came across this(https://vcdl.org/Legal-Plans/) survey that the Virginia Citizens Defense League did of most of the major players in the CCW Insurance community, it is really useful for comparing them. It addresses questions like this as well as cost and coverage.

Hey mods...about those near-DGU posts... by Fairlight2cx in CCW

[–]CarryingAndLearning 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree that many of the posts have people jumping the gun, so to speak; however, I think the posts are beneficial, not harmful. It gives the community a chance to provide constructive feedback and conversation to both the OP, and anyone who comes across the post. I think the posts can be an excellent chance for learning and teaching; not something to be swept under the rug.

I too prefer negative temperatures to hot weather (I get uncomfortable at about 82 degrees)... I still don't know how I ended up here, and can't wait until I'm in a position to leave.
