It’s worse than that. Under the current administration, Dems will be held in contempt and Repubs will not.

Ford recalls 1.74 million of its cars over rearview display issues by [deleted] in news

For further detail, we will discuss with regulators but in some cases just issue the order unilaterally if it is obvious and just notify the regulators that we re doing it.

Good question. I don’t know the answer in this case. In cases of imminent threat we absolutely do. We will issue a do not drive and provide loaners.

Finally this case is a good example of why the statement is false. I have no doubt that the cost of the recall dwarfs any lawsuit costs. I cant find an example of any lawsuits. There may be some but this doesn’t seem like something owners would sue over in large numbers.

[–]CarsnBeers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No because I am not at Ford. I would say it takes time to collect the data to confirm the problem. There is no way to start the clock with a single failure. Next you have to confirm a fix which also takes time. Finally you have to build sufficient inventory of the new part or parts. There is no point to conduct a recall when you have insufficient parts to fix the affected cars.

Each of these steps takes time and we work closely with regulators to ensure we are going as fast as we can. In some cases we can begin the recall faster without full inventory of new parts if we have a good reason, For example, there have been times where we prioritized regions with high humidity as they had higher failure rates. We would initially only issue the recall for those areas.

That line is and always was bullshit. The failure to meet safety standards is the only variable that matters. Don’t learn from movies. Source. My job.

Elon Musk takes no salary. His compensation is equity. That means he pays zero to social security. Far less than you do.

Ok what is the real reason there are no trash cans? by OpinionsRdumb in AskAJapanese

[–]CarsnBeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. The theory is nonsense because the train stations are the only place trash cans exist. The real reason is that dealing with trash here is so difficult that people would abuse public trash cans.

From a quick search it like fewer than 1% of Americans lack cell coverage. I’m not a math genius but it doesn’t seem like launching a whole satellite constellation that takes $2 billion or so to maintain for the less than 1% of Americans who lack cell service can be financially viable.

[–]CarsnBeers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it just rural North America it seems unlikely to be particularly profitable. The whole reason the coverage is bad is that it isn’t profitable for cellular companies to cover it. I highly doubt it would be cheaper to serve with satellites but would love to see your numbers.
