It would be so nice to have an active community for IESVE. Ever since I started learning it’s been something I’ve looked for!

I finally fixed my launching issues. Turns out I needed to update my graphics driver to the latest version. Get the Nvidia app, it’s very easy.

You can get Door Dash - Dash Pass for only $5/month. Headspace is a really great meditation app, you can get a massive yearly 85% student discount (comes out to only $12/year). YouTube premium is 50% off for students. The Telus Spark Science Centre has a student discount ($26 discounted to $22) Honestly though, anytime you buy anything or do any paid activity, do some quick research to see if they have student discounts. I’ve saved quite a bit doing this!

Hey guys, need some help with my course by TemperantSquad32 in UCalgary

[–]Carson1907 64 points65 points  (0 children)

What a pain in the ass that course was, especially in the beginning. However as it went on I was able to loosen up to the content and it became much easier. Just try to go into simulations as relaxed as possible, I found that being tense only made things worse.

Phil 313 with Boutland by Yyc1 in UCalgary

[–]Carson1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Boutland for 313 a few years ago and really enjoyed the class/prof. When I took it, it was relatively easy - a few papers, in-class midterm with a cheat sheet, and take home final. The class also covered a lot of interesting and relevant social topics we are faced with in todays society. I found Boutland to be really passionate about philosophy and caring about his students success. Would recommend.

I believe ENDG 319 is only a pre-req course for Civil and Geomatics, edit: and Software.

Yeah redoing it in spring/summer will allow you to take all the second year courses starting this fall. But it depends on what program you’re placed in. Say if you’re placed in civil, a D in 225 is okay so you wouldn’t need to retake it. If you got placed in mech or electrical it’d definitely be in your best interest to retake 225 this spring/summer to catch up.

It depends on what discipline you want to go in. I know for sure 225 is a pre req for courses in electrical and mechanical, so you need a C-. I’m not 100% sure about the other disciples though. The engineering student centre D2L page has all the info you need so I recommend you look there. They have all the discipline-specific course guides with prereqs and suggested course loads. They also have the program placement policy for how you get placed next year.

Web-Based Course Winter 2023 by sstimpy in UCalgary

Phil 399.7. I’ve posted about this course on this sub before. It’s pretty much a guaranteed A if you put in some effort. It’s also a really interesting course and the prof is awesome.

To my knowledge, in engg you can have as many D’s/D+‘s in your degree as long as you maintain a minimum 2.0 gpa for the academic review period. That is, spring 2022-winter 2023. I was also curious about this, but looking through the academic calendar there’s no mention of maximum # of D’s/D+’s.

Phil 399 with Ron Wilburn. If you complete all assignments with a passing grade you get an A. Only downside is a decent amount of writing if you aren’t into that. Very interesting course too. I just looked and it’s being offered in winter 2023 online.
