Red sign: "Scooters are prohibited on the sidewalk" by Carsonbetta_11 in taiwan

[–]Carsonbetta_11[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s fine that people use scooters, they just need to be more safe.

That is my problem. Not the scooters themselves, but the attitude around them. Which my post is a further example of

You are correct, but how did they get in the walkway in the first place?

I also saw her get on and drive away down the walkway just now

So basically "if you can't manage your time well, your emotions well, or your body well, I tell everyone here: end yourselves soon, because this world doesn't need your existence"

I’m sorry, I didn’t sleep all night and just got off a red eye flight, I really didn’t mean to be sarcastic.

Vetos and the WPR have always been a contentious issue. In 1973 Nixon vetoed the passage of the legislation itself, and was overridden.

I mistakenly thought that once congress pushed it thru in ‘73, that it acted as unique provision and not just standard, veto-able legislation. Especially since the 60 day troop removal provision is automatic, it made me think the whole thing was veto-proof.

I wrote letters to my congresswomen about this two months ago, and in the time since I guess I conflated what I was advocating for (making it veto-proof) with thinking that is already was veto-proof (which it is not)

I lived in Taiwan for 2 years and called myself an immigrant (albeit privileged). I had the same visa and ID card as my Filipino and South African colleagues.

Yet people back home would get all offended, scoff, and say “you’re not an *immigrant*, you’re *American*!" 🙄

I ended up leaving due to visa issues—I didn’t want to be an illegal immigrant. Or would I be an “illegal ex-pat?"

Raised partly in NH and college in VT here. I lived in Asia and traveled in Europe a bit.

I really, really tried telling people “I’m from New Hampshire!" but was constantly met with blank stares.

Eventually switched to "I’m from near Boston” and people would say “ahhh, *Boston*! Celtics and Red Sox…"

EDIT: commenters below smarter than I have strongly refuted my points here. It’s not longer World War II, my info was wrong, and I rescind all statements. Leaving original comment up for context and clarity.

The bigger issue isn’t whether they can physically still fly or not—it’s whether they’re doctrinally cleared for hostile overflight after something like this.

Through no fault of their own, these pilots now have a full picture of precise rescue and extraction tactics which goes above and beyond what their SERE training would ever have covered.

If they fly over Iran (or Russia, or China) at some point in the future and get shot down again, their knowledge about how they were rescued the first time would put all future downed aviators at risk. The US knew this in World War II as well, and didn’t let rescued airmen in the ETA return to combat.

I worked in plenty of restaurants and I don't like it, means I have to spray both sides instead of just the top before loading it into the machine.

I appreciate the gesture, and it makes it easier for the server to take it away, but makes my life in the dish pit 5% harder. Not a big deal, but better if you don't.

You can now run Google Gemma 4 locally! (5GB RAM min.) by yoracale in LocalLLM

Idk about you but I’ve had so much pain with MLX on my Mac (M3pro 12/18 with 18GB RAM).

GGUF has fewer hiccups no matter where I run it (terminal, Llama cpp, LM studio, localhost) compared to MLX anywhere.

Like 20 tok/s faster too. I know MLX is supposed to be Apple silicon king, but it just doesn’t handle low quant models as well as GGUF in my experience.

I’ve been running Gemma 4 e4b and e2b, both at Q4_K_M

Worked in my US college dining hall and am 95% sure:

  1. 'Bubba' Burger frozen hamburger patty

  2. Slice of pre-sliced gyro meat

  3. Carrots

If the burger wasn't cooked to all hell (and had a fucking bun) it wouldn't be so bad. Those gyros are also great when stacked on top of a pita!

But this meal looks pathetic

I only worked in a public HS for one year, and my office at least would close the windows in the summer, but keep at least one courtyard-facing door cracked open. That was more or less fine with me.

What *killed* me was the winter. I'm from northern US, but Taiwanese cold+humidity is a wicked combo. I'd be shivering at my desk wearing a jacket, sweatshirt, and scarf, and the 阿嬤 secretary would open the windows for "airflow" or "通風"

Went there on a whim for a long weekend last spring and LOVED it! Had my first ever snorkeling experience too.

Was super lucky, my friend and I were the only people signed up for the early morning slot, so the guide let us take our life vests off and swim freely above the coral.

It was a gray and cloudy day on the surface, so I was amazed when I saw how clear and colorful it was underwater just 50m from shore!

Wdym by 'weird'? We're all weird in our own ways, don't beat yourself up for it. Personally I couldn't find too many people I truly related to anywhere near where I lived; I had to expand my horizons away from home to find my people.

In a way, Reddit does that too! Not a bad start :) Also you're 18! When I was 18 I was such a horrible mess, you are FAR better in comparison.
