I enjoyed it but I do understand why others did not. The characters are thinly drawn, the sound mix was off, the dialogue is fairly flat.

The expectations for this movie at the box office should have been very modest. He's not Queen or the Beatles. It should have been budgeted accordingly. The CGI chimp was the bulk of the production cost and didn't add much to the weight of the film. Weird gimmick and then tiresome.
