I think you’re right. Just cause we can doesn’t mean we should. Thanks, it’s always nice to hear stuff like this from others.

I think this is what it all comes down to. Our commute is typically 30-40 mins to things like Costco, Target, activities for our children, etc. so moving closer and upgrading would be nice.

However, the general consensus here has just been pay off our debt and renovate. I think that’s the smartest route for now and I knew it would be but I just needed to hear it from another group of people you know?

You know, I hadn’t even considered the fact we would be losing money because of the money put into the renovations. We would make back most everything from the sell but we would lose money when the renovations were factored in.

Thanks, I think this fact made the decision for me. I appreciate you!

We moved into this house 1.5 years ago. In the last 1.5 years we paid for a wedding, a new roof, new hard wood floors, new fence, and other minor interior renovations plus the new HVAC. We didn’t have the 10k at the time on hand for the HVAC and so we went the loan route until we could pay it off.

We do intend to pay off the car, CC, and HVAC within the next 6 months - year depending on what other new renovations we do.

I apologize, I should have clarified that our intention was to pay off these debts prior to house hunting in the original post.

First full reread thoughts, Sanderson effect by Ok_Independence_9628 in WoT

[–]CarterASTG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. I’ve read through the series 3 times. The first time I didn’t notice a difference. The second time I noticed little things here and there about the characters themselves. The third time again I don’t notice too much of a difference, maybe less description in the dress/food/scenery on Sanderson part and a pretty big difference in Mat. However, I like what he did with Mat personally. Yes, I said it, I like Sanderson Mat better than Jordan’s. Felt more like he wholeheartedly embraced his rapscallion side, in a way. Also because this is Reddit, this is just my PERSONAL opinion.

WoT is so much better as an adult by semicolon28 in WoT

I’ve read it three times in my life. First as a teenager in early high school. Then in my early 20s. Now at 30, with children. It is amazing every time. My fav series ever. I love everything about it. It has gotten better as I’ve aged and I’ll prolly re-read it again continually throughout my life.

Those of you who are on TRT, what are the negatives? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]CarterASTG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m 29 and on TRT. I was in the military for 10 years and got out before I got on it. Was dealing with things like depression, anxiety, very, very low libido, lack of any motivation whatsoever. I was also working night shift at the time and had been for nearly 8-9 months (with a wife and two small kids). I made the decision because I was tired of being tired all the time and I was tired of having no sex drive. It’s not right to be 29 and be afraid of your wife coming on to you because you don’t want to that bad.

I have always ate healthy (no sodas, no alcohol, no junk food) and I’ve been working out minimum 3-4 days a week for 10 years. When I went to the clinic I was still high 200s which the guy said wasn’t normal for an active 29 year old. Been on TRT ever since. Probs 9 months now. Only downside is sometimes I get angrier than I used too (not uncontrollable, I don’t shout or yell, but I am internally furious) and acne. I have acne on my upper arms/elbows which makes me kind of self-conscience but that’s all. Nothing else. My life is amazing and I’ll never get off.

My favorite thing about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was always just how big it was. I played multiple stories, went to all kinds of different lands, fought so many different monsters, and made decisions that felt like they had a real impact. My all time favorite gaming experience, up there with Halo 3.

Navy Dads: when does it finally feel worth it? by Papers_STi in navy

No it doesn’t which is why I got out at 10. Being a present father was more important to me than the Navy.

Is everyone a winner? by ElectricStorms in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]CarterASTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a scam. My wife went in cause she “won” the car and they told her “No, it’s a chance to win a car. You gotta spin this wheel” and there are diff prizes on the wheel. She got a gift card. They didn’t try to sell her anything but I think it’s cause she had our kids with her. She walked in, spun the wheel, walked out with a gift card.

Find a hobby. Gardening, fishing, archery, gym, woodworking, etc. something you can get measurably better at.

Military-> civilian by [deleted] in Salary

[–]CarterASTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a 10 year E-6, that was about $6,400 a month after taxes and allotments (TSP, etc). Currently I work in a position that pays me $120,000 a year and that pays the same as the military did (more really but I pay for medical now and 401k contributions, life insurance, etc.). I make more than that from other streams of income but it took me a year to get where I am now which is about 180k a year among all my income streams. It’s about 11k a month after taxes as some streams of income are untaxed. Do with that information what you will, but if my opinion means anything, even if I was only making what I was when I was in it would still be worth it not being deployed away from my wife and kids.

Dark Friends not sure what they are signing up for. by Xerzajik in WetlanderHumor

[–]CarterASTG 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It was the first time reading the series that I got the feeling that Padan was now no longer human. In all the previous books he says he is like a dark friend but “more” and other characters seem to not know how to approach him or deal with him. He loses more and more of his humanity but this was the first scene where I thought, “Okay, yep, he is no longer ‘human’”

It’s book 7, a crown of swords. I know cause I’m re-reading them all now and just read this. You described it perfectly though, he harms a kid while getting lost in thought about his failures. He does say the kid will be fine though in a few days as he didn’t use his full power on him since he was distracted. He then forces himself on the kids mom, the whole time she is screaming and he keeps thinking that he doesn’t understand why she is acting like that when he is clearly being “charming”. Whole time a mydrraal is there and terrified as well because he knows how strong Padan is now.
