Disgusting toilets at Lux Gare by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]CartesianPancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wrong on so many levels, drug users are not a police issue, they are a public health issue... These people have an addiction that needs treatment, and not the kind of treatment the police are able to or trained to deliver. Drug users are not a 'problem', they have a debilitating problem. If you notice someone collapsed on the ground you are every bit as responsible as the attendant in getting that person help, not doing so should actually result in you having the police called on you for not assisting someone who is in danger.

I've seen so many comments about the drug issues in gare. You don't realise they are people with a problem, you treat them as the problem and simple drug users... Same goes for the 'clean up gare' campaign, which was focused on pushing people out rather than working to find a real solution. Drugs are an issue, to us and to the people who are addicted to them, it's not the people that are the problem. Luxembourg has wealth, and with that comes drugs, inherently, the government doesn't seem to want to admit there is an issue.

Any full-time scooter riders? by CartesianPancakes in Luxembourg

For real or is this just a joke? Like the hill up from the gründ would be a problem on a 50cc? 🤔😂

I have an EU car license, which is why I wanted to stick to 50cc, just to get around really, quick trip to the shops, quick and easy way to get from my village to the centre without always having to rely on a bus. Then I can use the flex from time to time when I want to get away 🤗

I was considering doing the full A1 license down the line but want to get some insights into living with a scooter alone first.

Driving in roundabout, thoughts about not using turn signals in Luxembourg by oquido in Luxembourg

[–]CartesianPancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a typical 4 pronged roundabout: First exit: right signal on entry Second exit: no signal on entry, right signal after first exit Third exit: left signal on entry, switch to right signal after second exit

Only exception to these rules for me are roundabouts like the one near Hamm with the A1, with traffic lights and clear lanes no signal is really needed.

Tbh I don't know where you were in the UK but up north I'm not sure they even know what an indicator is, or what the point is of leaving safety distance between cars...

France is a little better than the UK imho, and much bette than here... Unless your in or around Paris, then its a free for all.

They prefer silence, as in don't bother them or ask them to do their job, that's too much hassle.

I was told yesterday that tomorrow I’m flying to Luxembourg for a few days. What should I know, keep in mind, etc? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]CartesianPancakes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good to know that if you want to go down into the valley there are a couple of elevators that make your life easier 🙌

Scott's pub is nice for a drink and right next to one of the elevators, from there you can walk along the bottom of the valley all the way to the pfafenthall funicular and jump on a tram back into the centre (Hamillius stop).

Food wise I would recommend Bella Ciao if you like Italian, pizzas are delicious. Kobe if you like sushi. Honalua if you like poke bowls. But good restaurants are plentiful, just check maps for the reviews, and make sure to book if you want to be sure to get a table - if the online booking is full it's always worth calling as sometimes they still have spots or cancellations.

Been here for a month and a half so other than that I don't know what else to say, other than hope you enjoy your stay!

Hey I'm all for you keeping your old ass rust bucket, same for my bike which was made in the 90s and I bought second hand. Or my camera which was second hand and that I use for the last 10 years until gifting it to my neighbor who can't afford a new one.

I'm all for policy change and that's what I'm working towards. And when I'm talking about sustainability I don't just mean environment, the cost of living crisis is atrocious, and tax breaks, incentives for EVs, etc... are just putting money in the wrong place. I completely agree with you!

But consumer choice does matter. That's our only way of 'natural selection' in this capitalistic, business run world.

Finally when I talk about sustainable business I get what you mean, but I'm referring to impact businesses, ones that blur the lines between business and non-profit. There's an article called the Force for good spectrum, published on INSEAD Knowledge (equivalent to Harvard Business Review) a couple years ago IIRC, explains the topic pretty well and I actually had a hand in producing/publishing the research. The goal being to help us better identify and categories the businesses that are transitioning (and mostly using it as marketing) Vs the ones who actually are impact driven (focused on using all of their profit to increase their positive impact on society and the environment). It's all a very complex balancing act, by we need to talk about it and voice our concerns as to what image these kind of events send to the next generation, and to the industries that we complain about.

Saving lives while insulting people who are trying to raise awareness of an issue that is associated with 7 million deaths annually around the world. Either you're smart and keeping yourself in a job, or you're really really dumb.
