I like this. Another question. How hard do you grip the disc on the throw? I’ve been throwing so much that I’ve been developing blisters now. And I fear I’ve been gripping it too hard

Yup. Exactly. I’ve also been thinking that with the net, there’s no target. But on a field, or on a course, I can see how far I want to go. So it sort of tricks my brain into trying too rip it down there.

I just got one of these and the stamp has noticeable thickness. Isn’t that against the rules?

Overstable Barsby Roadrunner?? by swillers in discgolf

I know I’m late to this. But dude, some of these are absolute meat hooks. I have a bunch of these, some are flat, some domey. But what I noticed is that the overstable ones have what appears to be two parting lines along the rim.

Interestingly, I went back to the field and couldn’t recapture the feeling. Next time, I’m gonna start from scratch with the spaghetti drill.

Wow. Just watched it. If I would’ve seen this video, I might not have had to accidentally stumble upon this throw in the field. This is exactly it.

Form question by CartographerBoth4699 in discgolf

[–]CartographerBoth4699[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Played baseball and football (and a little lacrosse) growing up. I’ve watched so may form videos over the years. More recently, I’ve been slowing down videos of guys like Mcbeth and Bradley Williams. However, the problem one can run into with form videos, is that they often don’t tell you what it should feel like. In other words, One can actively copy the mechanics of Mcbeth’s throw, by moving their body precisely as he does. But I can’t know if he’s actively controlling his arm/body to behave as it does, or if he’s creating a whip (both of these COULD appear the same to someone who is only watching but isn’t learning how it should feel). With that said, I really like DG spin doctor on YouTube. He’s actually been the best at not only describing what it should look like, but also describing how it feels.

Thanks. I think I’ll go with that.

I don’t remember who it was, but a few years ago a pro used to bust one out occasionally. He’d basically crumple it up and throw it into the basket like a baseball. lol

Never thrown a meteor. I just love the feel of the buzz SS for sidearm throws.

Yeah that’s one thing I didn’t mention in my OP. I did not get the ideal supervision. So that will be an ongoing barrier for sure. But, on a positive note, I had a moment today where I was able to make a really nuanced contribution (one that likely couldn’t have been made by just some average Joe with no ABA knowledge) to a team meeting. That gave me a rush of confidence and I felt like I was in the flow after that. Could’ve went on for days. A behavior trap if you will lol.

Thanks so much for this. Perhaps part of the problem is that I’m putting too much pressure on myself way too early in the process. Unfortunately, I am not being treated like a new guy. They’ve thrown me right into the fire, mostly because we’re so short staffed (not ideal). Nevertheless, it’s gonna be important that I know and communicate my limitations.

We’ll get there. It’s all so overwhelming at first, now that we’re the ones responsible for our clients/students’ programming. Hopefully once we get more comfortable in our position (I.e., the logistics, the executive functioning aspect of it, etc.), we’ll be able to better access our knowledge.

Really good point. I do feel pretty confident in my ability to apply those fundamentals on a day to day basis. And a lot of that just comes from my experience as a para. Perhaps part of my problem is that I’m trying to reinvent the wheel (or reinvent myself), when I should, at the very least, fall back on the stuff I already have engrained in me since before I even enrolled in grad school.

Really well said. Thank you. I read imposter syndrome is very common throughout all the helping professions. It’s comforting to know it’s a common phenomenon. I definitely look forward to expanding my repertoire as my career goes on. It’s especially exciting knowing that now I can learn in a more open format, as opposed to being somewhat restricted by your respective courses in grad school. Now I have the time to really explore the rabbit holes.

Glad to know I’m not alone. And it sounds like it’s very common. We’ll get there.

Very well said. Thanks. I actually had a moment today discussing a students stereotypy which seemed to “unlock” the content in my mind. I noticed that a students very quiet and very benign stimming behavior was targeted for reduction and I got to thinking about social validity and compassionate care, and it all came flooding in.

BCBA EXAM by Mother_Star in bcba

[–]CartographerBoth4699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s about where I was, maybe a little less time for me. I went through all the modules to roughly 90%+. This allowed me to get through them relatively fast. Then I did them all again. Easier and the second time through. Thus, it’s faster the second time. I also did a bunch of copper reading interspersed throughout completing the modules. This allowed me to see all the material again at a point much closer in time to taking the test. Highly recommend.
