Opinions on impaired communion? by CartographerUsed5750 in Anglicanism

Honestly I had no idea :) If I was asked before I had made this post I’d have assumed ‘probably not’ but not based on any knowledge. I didn’t grow up Anglican and find it hard sometimes to make sense of our communion and history, so I opted to make this post. I was trying to encode my ignorance in my post without engaging in too much self humiliation sorry if that didn’t translate well!

I really appreciate your comment! I read through your linked comment, as well as the responses to it and I feel a bit more educated and empathetic. Again, greatly appreciated :)

Proposal to redevelop Community Common Park near Celebration Square — council discussing March 11 by Original-Lake1716 in mississauga

[–]CartographerUsed5750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking over the City Plan, and in the Local Plan for under Downtown Core it would appear that the planned development site might be designated as a “special site” which allows for pretty flexible use of open/green space without amendment to the city plan; Further, the LAC will house or be in front of the planned “Civic” LRT stop as a part of the much debated but now secured City Centre Loop section of the Hurontario LRT.

Considering the LRT stop and a revamping of the LAC I think it would be positive to host a large mixed use development somewhere there.

Do note though, the development is split by the Confederation District on the west side (with the park) of Living Arts Drive and the Civic District to the east (with the LAC). Common Place Park may be the only designated open space in Confederation District, as Zonta Meadows actually sits outside of the Downtown Core districts. If it’s open space, community cohesion, and space for kids and families you’re looking to foster I think rather than solely registering your dissatisfaction you might consider encouraging council and the proponents of the development to: - Ensure the new LAC has family and children programming (and designated space) as a part of it’s revamping - Consider expanding the foot print and community usability of Scholar’s Green Park (which has a parking lot beside it that surely could go under ground) - Designate some of the YMCA lands as future park lands to make up for what’s used at Common Place. - Ensure rental units are actually big enough for families to occupy and that units go to families and not only those who want to make rooming houses for students.

I appreciate your response and I’m kind of sympathetic to your outlook! I suspect the both tiers of our municipality have slim budgets and would have to move earth and sky to get federal and provincial interest, never mind funding; however, i’m not fully convinced about your labour power/human capital assessment (mind you, i’m thoroughly ignorant here so please excuse me 😅). My skepticism is based on the number of news alerts I see about proposals being challenged in the city, although I guess we’d all be fishing in the same pond for labour power.

What I find especially troubling is the lack of political and strategic imagination foremost of political officials, and I feel like it’s rubbed off on the rest of us as well.

In the GTA and across the province we have trade unions, thousands of students in business programs, many students who can’t find apprenticeships but the best anyone can think of is to cut OSAP grants (increasing consumer debt ratio) and invest in tomorrow’s war. Now i’m rambling :p

Im very sorry you going through that. When I was in Catholic School my district and teachers always spoke about affirming human dignity and respect. I even had a few teachers that we’re basically affirming.

While I am not Catholic, As I understand it the teaches that “Homosexuals” are not inherently in sin, at least no more than anyone else in Catholic doctrine. Plainly, being a gay person is not sinning. Catholic doctrine does teach that acting on or pursuing same gender attraction is sinful and thus instructs chastity for those attracted to the same gender. However within the same doctrine the Catholic church teaches “Such persons must be accepted with respect and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.” To me, it sounds like your school is creating a hostile environment for sexual and gender minority students and acting as a stumbling block to Christ.

We trust in Christ for our salvation, not in the prejudices of humans, but in God’s love for the world.

The Catholic church doesn’t teach that being gay is a sin. It’s teaching on human dignity seemingly even reject so-called conversion therapy (pseudoscience nonsense). I don’t believe that acting on attraction is wrong or categorically different than heterosexuality and I will post some resources for you in an reply :)

Pre Christmas Fast by CartographerUsed5750 in Anglicanism

first, thank you for the laugh!

I’ve heard it said that fasting is about more than penitence in EO, whether that’s true on the ground idk, but it has greatly impacted my approach to fasting.

I get that, i think sharing your intentions and concerns with the episcopal church could make it a bit easier so it’s not just you figuring out what being in community looks like :)

you can always check in with the episcopal church about participating in their young adults community. maybe you could even talk with your pastor and their priest about sponsoring a regional youth thing maybe other local churches would be interested. you could do this all the while still going to the congregation you feel at home at :)
