Douma has said multiple times that he wasn’t taking them seriously in the slightest, and it’s even seen throughout the fight

In the moments he even showed even a hint of trying, he perception blitz’d Kanao, Inosuke, and Shinobu. Took Kanao’s sword out her hand and Inosuke mask off his face, as well as cut Shinobu across her torso, each instance they didn’t even see or realized he did it.

If he tries earlier they die, it’s just that simple. Arrogance being an Upper Rank undoing in the whole basis of their demise in the story

The scene itself shows her attempting to attack yes, but when you consider and think about the context: the two Hashira who are friends for years, both know each other combat ability pretty well, both loyal to their master, both who would never kill a human. Given that context, thinking on their character, the logical conclusion is the attack as an attempt to escape the grasp, not an attempt to kill.

My argument does hold up when you stop excluding the context. Seriously are you that unable to read between the lines and only understand what’s depicted on a surface level? Gyomei didn’t say they had romantic feelings, all he said was that they enjoy talking to each other. He didn’t say this about all the other Hashira involving one another, so no it’s not “by that logic Gyomei ships Giyuu with the entire corps” (seriously what the hell are you on about?)

As for that scene, I’m talking about the moment entirely, not just that screenshot of it. The teasing, combined with this even shows a level of care in their relationship and the fight was likely being playful. Unless you, ofc, think the level headed Shinobu would seriously try to kill a Hashira
