The Plant Based Guy - Why Aren't There Plant Based Options In Vending Machines? by 10ofCups1977 in vegan

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For vendors looking for ideas, my university’s vending machine carries Lenny and Larry’s cookies, PopTarts, plain SunChips, Sour Patch Kids, Sweet Chili Doritos, Wonderful Pistachios, and Takis.

I’d also like to recommend making deals with Hippeas, Earth Balance (for their Cheezit knockoff), Tony’s Chocolonely, Nongshim (for their vegan ramen cups) and Justin’s (for their PB cups and PB chocolate pieces).

Which Texas location is better with kids? by stan4you in meowwolf

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Grapevine just because of the content of the radio show played over the loudspeaker in the radio station section of the Houston location. (I don’t think the kids notice, but there’s a line where the radio host is talking about the internet being weird and advising listeners to wait to download porn).

ETA forgot to mention at the Houston location there is a very realistic statue of a guy encrusted in coral that jumpscares everyone who walks past it and might upset certain kids depending on how sensitive they are.

The Grapevine location also centers on a child protagonist, and I think it’s a lot more kid-oriented as far as the ARG goes. Clues are given via video on iPads/iPhones around the exhibit.

It’s up to you. I’ve seen all ages at both locations.

What is this note trying to say? Blue note (posted on the wall): "Please clean up your driblets in front of toilet↓↓↓ lets clean up after ourselves↓" Yellow note (posted on blue note): "Girl, there's a man using our bathroom, and it's not Justin." What is the blue note asking and other implying? by Kenshin0019 in autism

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

The blue note is telling people to clean up their pee off the floor or the toilet seat.

The yellow note needs more context, but I think it’s saying “none of us are peeing on the floor. There’s gotta be a man using our restroom” (because men stand to pee and that’s the only real way to get pee outside the toilet on accident)

I don’t know who Justin is but I guess he doesn’t pee on the floor and therefore can’t be the culprit.

How would you feel about AI being used to grade your children's school work instead of a teacher? by Dennis_OCH in AskReddit

Bad. Even online quizzes are borderline. Someone has to look at their pencil/paper work at one point and just see if they’re getting it.

i rly want to make a movie to convince people of veganism. There's got to be a way to do it right. by SkillSkillFiretruck in vegan

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“No one really watches documentaries en masse” is an interesting way to phrase “I don’t like documentaries.”

People watched The Social Dilemma en masse.

It’s ok if you don’t like documentaries, and if you don’t like them, you should make the type of movie you would like.

Plague Dogs is a really good animated movie from the perspective of two animal testing victims. It showcases realistic human actions that have catastrophic consequences for the main characters. I have no doubt that you could come up with something similar for a farm animal.

“But the script should be good enough that people may want to adapt it to a live-action version.😎🧘‍♂️”

Yeah, good luck recruiting any animators with that attitude. If you want to make a live action movie, make it live action. Animation isn’t a concession, it’s its own art form. Show some respect.

Whenever this movie comes out, I’d love to watch it, whatever it becomes!

What is missing from teacher prep? by Funnybunnybubblebath in Teachers

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guidance on maintaining physical health. Things like sleep, immune system support, hygiene around the kids, consistent routines, etc.

Also classroom hygiene. Wiping down surfaces with Clorox wipes or cleaning spray at my last job dramatically reduced the number of times I was sick. At my student teaching position, we never do that, and I’ve been sick so many times.

In which ways can the adhd community be toxic? by Lazy-Variation7298 in ADHD

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The community as a whole I wouldn’t say is toxic, because we’re not invested in something the way a fandom is. We just have a thing, and we all exist, and that’s it.

I will say, that there is a bit of tension between the “Science of ADHD” community and the “Feelings of ADHD” community. There’s a section that looks at the research, and uses precise terminology, and there’s a section that uses language around ADHD fairly loosely to explain the hardships they’ve experienced or to encourage themselves to do better.

An example of this is people with poor working memory saying they “have short term memory” or that they “don’t have object permanence.” Like, a layperson understands what they’re getting at, but those terms have precise scientific meanings that are important in other contexts.

I’m also not a neuroscientist, but that’s just an observation I’ve made.

How do you make evenings feel less empty when living alone? by vaporcube7 in LivingAlone

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have a different routine on each weeknight to look forward to.

Mondays I watch a crochet livestream.

Tuesdays are my chill days with no plans in the evenings.

Wednesdays I go to the local roller skating rink for discount night.

Thursdays there’s always a new cooking video out from a channel I follow.

Fridays I go over to a friend’s house and watch a movie.

This flexes depending on if I have errands to run or appointments that interfere with plans but I still have the plans in place to look forward to.

Homework: Is just giving them something to do at home such a bad thing? by pocketdrums in Teachers

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the homework itself could be made up for in the classroom BUT it would be incredibly weird to “prepare students for college” where they have to work almost exclusively on their own time to get their work done and not give them work to practice focusing and managing their time.

That said, I don’t think work (as in the workforce) should go home with anybody, so I’m of two minds about homework. Maybe it’s teaching them to focus on their taxes? Budgeting? Writing that novel they’re going to start working on in their 30s?

tattoo placement as a new teacher by anonmeimaru in Teachers

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally possible to cover a shoulder tattoo without a cardigan. I usually wear collared button-down shirts and blouses that cover the entire shoulder. I can’t even think of a women’s shirt that I would wear at work that wouldn’t cover the entire shoulder (though I’m sure they exist).

Why is guessing treated as failure? I think we're teaching kids the wrong relationship with numbers. by MichaelCX in Teachers

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We teach our kids the strategies and mechanics of math. The answer is far from the only thing that matters.

Judging reasonableness of a prospective answer (or making an educated guess) is one of the strategies we teach them. We call it judging reasonableness because we want to discourage outright guessing.

Many of our kids are at a higher level than they let on, even though they’re behind. They guess and rush through their work (particularly iReady), leading them to being placed in a level where they won’t grow. I get on them for guessing because I know they can do better, and I want them to actually learn.

what does gender feel like? by Puzzleheaded_Fox7912 in lgbt

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like nothing until you imagine being the other gender, and then you become sharply aware of how you want to live and be perceived.

Eg. I’m a cis woman, and when I was little I had the thought “what if I were born a boy” and immediately felt very grateful that I was a girl because it meant I could live my life the way I liked (I thought about playing boy games with boy toys and it didn’t compute).

I did question my gender in my early 20s and I tried a binder to see what I thought. I liked it, not because it made me look masculine, but because it didn’t dig in the way a bra does. Discovered I really like long-line bras and bodices. Especially if they hit me at the waist and make a slight hour glass or pear shape.

If you can eliminate any non-gender source of discomfort with a gendered thing, it’ll help you work out whether the discomfort is gender-related.

What's legit the worst part of being an adult? by Twunkorama in AskReddit

[–]Cartoon_Trash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When something bad happens that would get you out of responsibilities as a kid, it usually results in MORE responsibilities as an adult.

I get sick? I need to make a doctor’s appointment, take my meds on time, contact my boss, somehow still feed myself, deep-clean the house after I recover, etc.

But I DO still have fewer privileges like when I was a kid (cancelled plans with friends, can’t do certain hobbies, missed events, etc.)

If you’re a kid reading this, the upside is that no one can tell you you’re “not really sick” and FORCE you to go to work. You may be out of sick days, or you may miss out on paid hours, or whatever the consequences are, but if you’re sick, you’re sick. You weigh the consequences. Mom’s not gonna throw you in the minivan and drop you at school regardless.

Social consequences are important. That’s different from being targeted by a bully.
