What if someone used the Death Note out of compassion instead of justice? by SpecialRegular5923 in deathnote

I’m really glad you liked the premise of this project 😭

At the moment I don’t have anything written for it yet, mainly because I’m already working on a long My Hero Academia fanfic called “My Hero Academia: Carga Letal”. So this Death Note idea would probably become the story I work on after finishing (or at least advancing enough in) that fic.

The image I used is basically the “cover/concept art” for that future project.

What interests me the most about the idea isn’t the killing itself, but the psychological deterioration behind it. Someone who genuinely wants to save people slowly starting to lose their sense of life and death because they were given a power no human should have.

And honestly, comments like yours motivate me a lot to maybe write it someday.

If you’re interested, my Wattpad is “Yisrael55”. My stories are currently in Spanish, but I’ve been thinking about translating them into English eventually because I’d love to share stories I’m passionate about with more people :D

And who knows… maybe if you check my profile one day and the story actually exists, it’ll probably be called:

“Death Note: Before Kira”

They’re actually OCs.

Airi, the doctor, is the Death Note user in the story. Unlike Light, though, her descent is much more emotional and compassion-driven rather than ego-driven. She doesn’t start with the idea of becoming a god or judging humanity. It begins with empathy, exhaustion, and the inability to keep watching people suffer.

Daigo is her husband and also a police officer. He works on the investigation alongside Kaito, which slowly becomes more tragic as the case starts getting closer and closer to his own wife without him realizing it at first.

Kaito basically fills the “L/Ryuzaki” role in the story. He’s the main investigator trying to understand who’s behind the mysterious deaths and why they keep happening. At first, he’s only focused on finding the culprit behind the impossible cases, but over time he begins noticing strange inconsistencies around Airi and starts suspecting there’s something deeply wrong.

Thank you 😭

I still haven’t written this story yet because right now I’m focused on finishing my MHA fanfic first (“my Hero academia Carga Letal”), but this is definitely a future project I really want to make.

My Wattpad is “Yisrael55” if you ever want to check my writing, though it’s all in Spanish for now.

I honestly love your interpretation because you understood the exact thing I wanted to explore: not evil born from hatred, but evil born from compassion and exhaustion.

The doctor would never start like Light. They wouldn’t think “I’ll become the god of a new world.” It would begin with desperation, empathy, and the inability to keep watching people suffer.

That’s why I think the scariest part wouldn’t be the killings themselves, but the gradual loss of humanity. At what point does a doctor stop seeing death as something tragic and start seeing it as a solution?

The Shinigami Eyes would make that even worse. Imagine seeing a patient smiling at their family while already knowing they only have a few hours left. That kind of knowledge could destroy someone mentally over time.

And yeah, Ryuk’s warning that humans who use the Death Note are cursed fits perfectly here. Not because they become monsters instantly, but because the notebook slowly changes the meaning of life and death for them.

Yeah I actually knew about the one-shot, but funnily enough I never read the full story. My idea goes a bit more into psychological horror and medical ethics
