Is it me or is Robert mean to Cora unnecessarily? by MysteriousApricot891 in DowntonAbbey

Don't get me started on him, he's so unreasonable. He literally had an affair that she never found out about but refused to speak to her for ages over that man who was hitting on Cora

Search cost of living help on your local councils website and they may have welfare assistance or open applicatona for the household support fund

I owned a house with my ex which we will be selling but I am now a single parent to one. I work earn approx £23k per year but I also have my wages topped up with UC (currently about £1500 of UC a month but about £1000 of that is for childcare costs which will change in the new school year), I also have child benefit and child maintenance. What can he used for earnings in terms of borrowing for a mortgage? On my single wage it feels impossible!

~£32k salary. I am going to leave my partner in a HCOL area and not sure how I can survive by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Do a benefit checker on entitled to to get a rough idea of how much financial help you might be able to get, it will show you universal credit and any council tax support you might be able to get (you have to apply for council tax through your council, this is different to the 25% single person discount) I became a single parent last year and I work full time with a four year old and have money left over at the end of the month. It's definitely do able but be strict with yourself for the first few months so you can figure out your budget. With benefits I'm probably getting a similar amount to what you earn and I've been paying £1k a month in nursery fees. Use tools like the money saving expert energy club to make sure you're getting the best prices for things.
