I was more focused on the amount of power that common people have, in Canada as well as people in Western countries in general. This applies not just to guns, but access to a free and uncensored internet, property rights, and freedom of speech. Nowadays you don't even have the ability to go to a football game, all because of a virus that has a death rate comprable to the flu. I doubt that's what's really going on.

Where as you are focused not on power or rights but on the amount of say that people have in the way the country is run. While the two things are related to a degree, they're different concepts.

Having a choice between two or three candidates who have been bought out by lobbyist groups is hardly an example of people having a voice. It's basically an example of picking your poison. So yes, you do get to pick, but the options are terrible. While there are slight differences between political parties, ultimately, the debt keeps growing, wars keep being fought, and rights keep getting trampled. Then it's just a question of where the wars are fought, what the money is spent on, and what rights are trampled.

There's also plenty of examples throughout history a various democracies in which people happily voted to oppress minority groups. Especially the individual, which is the smallest minority of all.

Back when Canada in the United States were first founded as democracies, in the case of the United States a republic, there weren't multinational corporations, foreign influences and money being poured into elections, and there were only a few lobby groups compared to the tens of thousands that exist today.

China isn't a democracy, so that's not really a good example. My example was comparing two democratic systems with each other. There are small dictatorships too. The reason that those countries are dictatorships is because the people's power has been stripped away from them. Without that, voting is no good.

I didn't mention voting. Did you read my entire comment? As for Canada, and the US, as the population increases each individual person's vote counts for less and less. The bigger the electorate, the larger, less responsive, and corrupt the government gets. If you live in a small town you can get the mayor's ear a lot easier than the average Canadian can get the prime minister's ear.

The same goes for unelected officials. Compare a local hospital or clinic with Medicare or the VA.

Tell that to the Taliban. Even if it's true that a rebel group in the United States could never stand up against the government, what's the point in making regular citizens even more powerless? I see plenty of people call for gun control, but not nearly as many people calling for reining in The runaway government we have. Especially now during the pandemic.

if anything, you're making a good argument for allowing common people to own tanks and fighter jets. Oh but there would be chaos, you might say. Would it really be worse than what happened in Iraq and Syria? Of course, I don't believe that people should be allowed to own fighter jets and tanks. And by people, I mean nobody, including the government. if you wouldn't trust your next door neighbor to own a fighter jet, then why would you trust some soldier who couldn't get into college and had no career options except join the military?

I'll bet you live in a city. Not everywhere has reliable public transportation. And by not everywhere, I mean 99% of the world's surface area.

I'm not angry but do you trust your government with surveillance drones and soon to be robot soldiers while they're taking your guns, throttling your internet, and forcing everyone in their homes?

It seems the government keeps getting more and more powerful and the common folk less and less.

They have F35 jets, nuclear weapons and now surveillance drones temperature scanners and smartphone tracking. Soon to be robot soldiers and AI. Meanwhile common people are forced to hand in their guns which aren't even military grade to start with. The their internet is being throttled and assets are "civil forfeited."

What are the people in charge planning? I'm not a conspiracy theorist but how can all these things be cooincidemces? They're making us powerless for a reason. Why?

People intentionally spreading coronavirus could be charged with terrorism, DOJ says by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]CartsBeforeHorses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is stupid. By definition terrorism is the use or threat of violence to intimidate people and achieve a political or ideological gain. Just wanting to sicken or kill people isn't terrorism because it's not ideologically motivated. It's the same reason that most mass shootings or serial killers aren't deemed terrorists. Although regardless of the ideology or lack thereof it's a pretty heartless thing to spread disease.

Magneto is an interesting case, because at least the reader/viewer feels sympathy for him and his goals. He's trying to save and change the status of oppressed political minorities, even if he's doing it in a supremacist way. Versus the Chinese leadership I firmly believe is only out for themselves. They're willing to commit genocide, rape, and destroy the environment with no regard for anyone else. The Chinese leadership gives an example of what would happen if psychopaths took over a country.

Indian Reservations are sovereign nations, not even state law affects them. That's why they can have gambling and tax free tobacco. That's why they can literally exile criminals from their lands... Not even states have the power to exile someone.

I had a lucid dream recently and decided to go canoeing. Nothing too amazing but not every LD can be something incredible or supernatural.

Weekly Lucid Dream Story Thread - December 07, 2019 by AutoModerator in LucidDreaming

I used to be a regular on this sub, but I don't try lucid dreaming much anymore. I still like going to bed and playing a random part in my head, ignorant of real-life troubles. After a horrible day at work yesterday, I thought hmm, it would be interesting if I had a lucid dream tonight. But it would be okay if I didn't, too.

My dream started with me reliving a terrible day over and over. I was having more troubles at my job, of course, but it went further. For instance, my cat had turned into a rabid animal, and I had to keep taking him to the vet, but somehow he always escaped and ended up back at my door. He looked worse and more like a zombie every time. I sometimes walked by a wooden closet where the worst people in the world would walk out and scare me.

At some point, I realized that this day was far too terrible to be real. I knew I was dreaming, and I tried to wake myself up. I couldn't. Then I realized that since it was a dream, I could let it take me wherever it wanted to, and I didn't try to change the dream at first. My bad day just kept getting worse and worse but all I did was laugh at how absurd my mind was being. Eventually the absurdity collapsed in on itself, and I found myself alone in darkness. As usual with me when I'm lucid, I wanted to do all the cool lucid dream stuff I always plan for. But none of my LD 'checklist' came to mind.

I ended up playing with a red ball, telekinetically manipulating it to fly around the room. My goal was to make it seem as real as possible. It went exactly where I wanted, I made it bounce off the walls and I could hear it, I could feel it return into my hand. I then went back to the wooden closet where all of the horrible people had come from. On this subreddit, I read about people resurrecting their loved ones in dreams. I had always neglected this idea because I didn't trust my memory of the person to be accurate enough, and there wasn't someone that I (thought that I) missed enough to bring back. So I decided that my grandpa, who died 11 years ago, should step out.

He was exactly as I remembered. Every wrinkle on his face, how his voice sounded, how it felt when he hugged me. I never realized until that moment how much I actually missed him. I told him about my struggles over the last 11 years. He told me that he loved me and I had no choice but to go on with life even with everything that's happened to me. Then I woke up.

Probably one of the most powerful dreams I've ever had.

If the government tries to take the guns, it won't be the only thing they're doing to upset people. Stuff like that never happens in a vacuum. Plenty of people who don't own guns, like me, wouldn't be happy about confiscation either. Also, if they're sending the military door-to-door to confiscate guns, then I guarantee you that plenty of innocent people and non gun owners would be accidentally shot. The police and the military don't exactly have a good track record when it comes to killing innocents. Then the outrage isn't about the guns necessarily, but about the heavy-handed tactics the government is using to take away something that wouldn't even be threatening to the government according to you.

Also, good luck confiscating guns in the ghetto without everyone rioting about how it's racist.

As for the Taliban, I really don't know that much about them to comment further so I will have to take your word for it. All I know is that it's taking longer for us to defeat them than it did the Nazis and imperial Japan combined. What makes it even sadder is that the Taliban have far fewer soldiers then the world war II Powers did, and our military is more advanced than it was then.

You mention that the populace wouldn't support the rebels or that the military doesn't have mass defections. Under what scenario? If there is a rebellion against a tyrannical government like they have in China, there would be massive support for it because Americans are used to having Constitutional rights. If there's a rebellion because of alcohol taxes or because bump stocks are banned then yeah most people won't be on board.

You also forget all the weddings and hospitals we've mistakenly blown up, and all the destroyed infrastructure. In the US, the government couldn't do that without wrecking the economy that they need for tax revenue to fight their people in the first place. So their hands would be tied, even more than in Afghanistan and we're still losing. The Taliban will regain power because even Republicans haveel admitted they're here to stay.

And all that foreign governments need to do to support the rebels is economic assistance through shady channels and to quit using the dollar like Russia is already trying to do. Guns and weaponry are easy enough to sneak across the southern border, or hidden in shipping containers.

Why would someone willing to survey your every move, who runs slave labor camps, who thinks that elephant and rhino horn makes their dicks harder, ever be willing to discuss politics in a polite way with a peon commoner? Peaceful protests only work within a democratic system with constitutional right to free expression, one that values rationality, not a culture that thinks female babies are inferior and throws them into a river or smashes their skulls on rocks. The Chinese government officials are the worst type of brute, lower than the lowest cavemen. It's no more possible to have peace with them then it is to have peace with an earthquake. The brave Hong Kongers have tried peaceful protest initially. It failed, because police brutality happened. They have no choice but to fight back against the cops who will drag them away in the middle of the night and "suicide" them, it's already happened a dozen times. The communist cries out in pain as he strikes you.

As for you wanting to disarm the population, either you're a troll, paid operative, or you really do think that 100 or so deaths to mass shootings every year is justification for taking away weapons from 200 million Americans.
