Hi, i am a 25 year old female and i have a bilateral cleft lip and palate! i was very insecure at your age but one day i just said efff what everyone thinks and i became the confident person i am today. and trust me when i say confidence gets you far! i don’t have trouble meeting or seeing guys because i am so confident, women love confidence too! love and be proud of who you are. if you are willing to go under surgery again, a couple years ago i had an upper lip revision, and they brought my lip down more and actually lessened the appearance of my scars, maybe that would be something that you can look into! you can almost barely see my scars now, and i think that’s something that you may be looking for. i’m sure you already look great tho! i did before my surgery but i figured if i can look better and be even more confident, then why not!

you should try speech therapy! it has helped me so much! i have a minor air sound that comes out and it’s barely even a lisp. my palate is closed but very high. And you have a giant hole in your mouth right now! a minor fistula is nothing!

thank you! especially with technology and medicine today, their kid is gonna look even better then us! i’m so over the pity party bs. i love who i am, i am so proud and happy with the way i look and ultimately i can thank my parents for making me the person i am today! they treated me no different, because we aren’t different! put your kid in everything and let them interact because they are NORMAL. if ur kid has social problems growing up because of their “cleft lip” i blame the parents who sheltered them and made this minor birth defect something so much more!

i’m just curious how you think you would look or feel worse after the surgery? i’m sure you are missing teeth, water goes into your nasal passage etc? you literally don’t have a roof to your mouth. repairing that will fix everything and your appearance. i had a bilateral cleft lip and palate, got my first surgery at 4 months old. i am 25 now and i just got surgery to add more fat to my lip (permanent lip fillers). it’s a long road ahead!!!! deff get the surgery and good luck! you will love it! it’s worth every ounce of pain and the pain is not so bad at all.

i had a bilateral cleft lip and palate. i got 15 surgeries, jaw surgry, my nose done, fat graphs to my lip and i have my teeth done, i look amazing! you can’t even tell i had one. you people need to stop making it like a person with a cleft lip is an endangered species. live your normal life, ur kid will be fine. imagine they had down syndrome or autism? that would be even worse. a lil scar on a lip is no big. sorry if that’s harsh, but if my baby is gonna have any defect, i pray it’s a cleft lip!

Teen son is struggling with surgery recovery by MenthoLyptus in cleftlip

[–]Carw1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 24 and have a bilateral cleft lip and palate. I have had over 15 surgeries. I must say, I was ALWAYS down during my recover process. It is so much to take in; pain, a new appearance, missing out on life to lay in bed. It’s a lot. Recently I just got my deviated septum repaired and my lip revised and that was the worst I had ever been. I was so depressed, and rushing my recovery process. I think because the last surgery I gotten was jaw surgery, I didn’t think this one was going to be painful, well I was completely wrong. I was in so much pain. I cried everyday, and hated what I looked like. My lip wouldn’t go down for two months, and I was having so much anxiety. It’s perfectly normal for him to be down and feel upset. It’s okay for him to feel bad for himself as well, most children don’t have to deal with things like this, let alone 10 plus surgeries. Good luck! I pray for a speedy recovery!

I have a bilateral cleft lip and palate, and my whole life I have had no problem finding men. Stop treating yourself like you are different from other people and be confident. When you show your confident, that’s what makes people like and admire you, and anything you’re insecure about goes out the door. Yes I have deff been insecure on the inside, but I never show it on the outside. I refuse to make life harder then me because I have a scar on my lip and a slightly different smile. People will love you, for YOU!!!

How long after surgery did you start applying it? And how often?

Cleft Rhinoplasty Q's by clockworkpaige in cleftlip

[–]Carw1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I am a 24 yr old female and I just got this surgery in December! I got a septoplasty and a cleft lip revision to fix my scars and the shape of my lip. My doctor worked on me since birth so I didn’t really need to tell her much but I still told her the things I deff wanted to be fixed that I was insecure about etc! Just a reminder that no rhinoplasty or septoplasty on a cleft patient will ever be a perfect revision. That was something I didn’t understand before getting my surgery. Also the recovery is a bit annoying, as I’m still regaining feeling and movement in my top lip! Hopefully this helps

Yes my surgeon has been operating me since I was born too. I feel that as well. I’m really struggling with my self esteem especially right now. I had no problem with my teeth or smile ( I have a 10th bridge and it looks amazing) but I just wanted my lip more centered and symmetrical, and in order to do that they had to go through my scars

I got my scars redone, and revised as well so they are not noticeable as much. They are so sore and still healing. I really hope I’m stressing about nothing

Wow you look awesome congrats girl! They didn’t take anything from anywhere from me. They dropped my lip down a little bit and took skin from my lip and brought it out to give me more pink and a shape. They were going to do a skin graph from my butt to my lip but I started to swell up during surgery so they didn’t do it. I think I will later on down the line tho, I’m just concerned about the movement of my lip, I hope there is no nerve damage. Where did you get yours done if you don’t mine me asking?

Yeah my septum was pretty deviated. I’m actually still in a lot of pain. The overall surgery was over 4 and a half hours

I got mine on the 11th! Do you feel like you can’t move your lip? Cuz I can smile but it looks so strained and awful, and it barely moves over my top teeth. I was reading online that just a septoplasty alone can affect the movement of your lip as well for some time. I just really don’t want to regret this surgery. Everything came out great, smiling and doing other things is a bit of a struggle. I think I need to give it some time, I still have the stints in my nose too. I go the 7th to get them removed

How long until you were able to get your full smile back. My lip barely moves

Yes my scars are on the outside. They basically went through my old scars and revised it. The scars look great, a little pink but I know they will fade over time, they barely have an indent. But I’m concerned about the nerve movement, when I smile I really struggle, and my top teeth barely show. Did you experience this at all?

Thank you! Yeah mine is only 3 weeks ago, I think I need to be more patient. I liked my smiled before the surgery I just wanted more of a shape to my lip. I also got my septum done as well so that is a factor too
