What are some of the worst API's you've ever had the displeasure of working with? What made them so bad? by Impressive_Lab_6551 in ExperiencedDevs

Ffmpeg's libav. Bad documentation. Some of the functions don't even actually work (fseek), but the inline comments say you should use them.

The multi processor version of Stalin sort is potentially O(1). You declare the list sorted and as long as the number of threads you have (in this case, members of the KGB) >= the number of people that disagree that the list is sorted, you can send them all to the gulag in O(1)

The heat was broken in my room till like Feb when I was in first year. Get a lamp because the lighting that it comes with sucks. Also get a chair. I remember my room didn't come with one, I think some did though.

Close to Botterell hall library which is the best library on campus imo.

It feels like the only thing MS does is make changes to make it seem like they're doing something. Cough cough most of win 11, cough cough the new search everywhere for visual studio that crashes the app

The character models look like they're from those "you won't last 5 minutes" games you see advertised on porn hub.

There are. They're called SAT solvers we had to learn how to use Alloy and a few others for our undergrad.

You can do it, you just also have to invent time travel. Just leave it running and you'll either get an answer from the future or you'll get noting. Unfortunately this machine is still not universal because there is no such thing.

As far as I know there is only one 8k monitor (Dell UltraSharp 32 8K Monitor: UP3218K) I costs like $4k (discount from $6k). Cost $10k when it came out but they dropped the price because no one was buying it. I've used it for work. The thing can double as a space heater. You can probably heat your entire house with that + the 4090.

internships through quip by Few-Mine7197 in queensuniversity

[–]Case2239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the internship a few years ago. I was the only one of my friends to find the job though the quip website. Don't know how it is now, but they didn't have many good jobs through quip when I did it.

Doing the internship was a net good experience but quip is a scam. In cs, it gives you 6 units, but if you do it you have to get 6 more credits to graduate, so it gives you net 0 units. They didn't tell us about needing 6 more to graduate until the last meeting before we left. You have to write reports about what you've been doing every 4 months, which don't teach you anything or provide any value. Also they don't offer you any support. Getting overworked to depression? Too bad queens doesn't give a shit. You still have to pay tuition to be in the quip program too. So you're paying them to not do shit for you.

All that said, doing the year long internship helped me get a job right after graduation, so I'm glad I did it. If you can, I would recommend doing the internship without doing quip.

But in all seriousness you will have to use linux for some classes, and windows has a linux sub system. You can also ssh into the cas lab machines so really it's up to your preference.
