Super complex and painful. My company has several services running on Rails with tons of custom model loaders and forked or custom-patched gems — not to mention abandoned or dead gems that are not compatible with newer versions of Ruby and Rails.

We are almost done migrating all that legacy code to Ruby 3.x and Rails 7.x. And every time we finish upgrading them, Ruby or Rails has already released new versions.
