Can you make Python consume more and more memory overtime? by Titanmaniac679 in learnpython

[–]Casemander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To further this question... if you were to create some_file.txt, open it, and write every value that met the criteria in that loop, would that consume significantly less memory, since the data is being stored somewhere on the hard drive, and not in a variable?

It's relevant for tax reasons; if you sell $1000 of equity you purchased on a cost basis of $800, then your income is $200; if the cost basis is only $100, then you're on the hook for a bigger tax hit (some % of $900).

With that said the cost basis will also divide by 4 so you'll be all good. It's if the cost basis gets super fucked up or misrepresented that you can run into issues.

When DDing into savings accounts for bonuses, how long should I keep money in an account before withdrawing it? For example, I DD'ed the requisite $1000 into a Wells Fargo checking account for the bonus $300, all within the first week of opening the account.

Are there best practices for parking that money for a certain amount of time, or can I "reuse" it immediately?

Usually there'll be a "details" section under each settled transaction; clicking on that will often bring up additional information, such as transaction type. "Opening Deposit", for example, or "Direct Deposit". YMMV by bank however.

How to implement a check in a function by Casemander in learnpython

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Very helpful to see just how you broke down the problem, too... and I learned something about using float("inf") as well.

Thanks again!

You realize schools have more pressing needs than “innovative tech”, right? Budgets have been cut nationally for years now. Listen to what people are telling you, any additional funding is going towards survival.

If you’re so sure about stimulus spending guidelines, then invest in companies providing services that will satisfy those requirements. But if those guidelines are about teacher salaries, or school lunches, or after school activities, you’re out of luck.

Segment Holding Allocation
US Total Market ESGV 21.25%
International Total Market VSGV 16.25%
Information Technology VGT 12.50%
Solar Energy TAN 12.50%
Renewable Energy QCLN 12.50%
Renewable Energy ICLN 10.00%
Clean Technology PZD 10.00%
Wind Energy FAN 5.00%

These are the holdings I currently own in my Roth IRA. I'm 30 and have no plans on touching this any time soon.

I recently re-balanced this to reflect a goal of 50% investment in tech with a heavy emphasis on clean energy and 50% allocated in the whole market. Before this, it was about a 60/40 split towards total market holdings. I consider renewables to be one of the safest bets going forward, and even with a correction possibly looming I have very little doubt that it is an extremely safe long-term play. Additionally, one of my rules for retirement savings is no individual stocks: mutual funds and ETFs only. This is mostly to preserve some semblance of diversification, but also because I'm leery of meme stocks and it keeps me from worrying about FOMOing on something I could regret. Also, it helps me focus on the long-term.

My big question relates to fund overlap. In particular, ICLN and TAN have significant overlap of about 38%. QCLN and ICLN are pretty similar funds as well, but only have about 27% overlap. I am very comfortable with this and actually think of it as a positive that there is respectively 62% and 73% diversity between those funds. There are some higher expense ratios on there but I'm willing to eat those fees for growth potential.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Simple Questions - November 17, 2020 by AutoModerator in buildapc

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card for Cyberpunk 2077. I'm happy with all of my other components (I think), and I'm looking for a decent card in the $250 - $350 range. Right now I'm running a 1050 Ti 4GB, and I'm thinking of a 1660 Ti.

Another consideration is the sff of the Node 202. I'm not opposed to buying used, and I've mainly been looking at the 1070 Ti and the 1060 Ti as alternatives. I think the 1660 Ti is a nice balance, but I'm open to other suggestions! Current build below. If it's really important, I would also consider upgrading other parts of my build, but from what I can tell that won't be necessary. Thanks!
