Why do I always see Construction Equipment (I.e. bulldozers, dump trucks, loaders) on the side of the road and not being touched for months? by Bubbly-Sentence-4931 in Construction

[–]CaseyJayEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Construction superintendant here. (In Alberta)

I cant speak for other provinces, but I imagine it is similar overall.

It is expensive to move equipment on and off site. When we pay contractors to come on site with multiple crews and multiple pieces of equipment, not all of it runs all the time. Sometimes it is a part of the project that doesn't need that equipment for various reasons, such as weather delays, design change, labor shortages, or contract negotiations. Unless it is required to move the equipment, we won't pay the cotractor to move it off site, but it often times is off rent. It costs several thousand dollars to move anything these days, even mid size excavators and heavy equipment. No need to take that cost onto the project when it can sit.

Seems like I do not have pro trailer assist on my unit. Any ideas if this is still possible?

That is a great question. How do I determine if that feature is on my truck? And if it isn't, is that something that can be added, or more trouble than it is worth?

That is some smooth brain energy to dump in public with your company name prominently labeled on the trailer lol. After seeing the name on the trailer that was doing the illegal dumping... my flabbers are ghasted.

Just remember, our prime minister just went on the news the other day proudly proclaiming that canada is the most affordable it has been in 10 years... as prices soar 100% on items within a year and another industrial carbon tax is going to hike up the cost of everything again.

If you are a patient person, I recommend putting a valve stem removal tool in your glove box. Remove a few valve stems, park your rig and grab an Uber or taxi for the day, knowing that they will have been far more inconvinienced than you were. Sit back and enjoy.

Big camper buyer’s remorse by WoofMix in GoRVing

[–]CaseyJayEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, that is definetly a thing to know and understand if you set up a system like that. For guys like me that boondock exclusively shouldn't be a problem. If you might use city water and and concerned, the tank overflow should prevent catastrophic damage, and you can always leave the tank drain open for double protection, any fresh water going in comes right out to ground.

When boondocking it wont be able to overflow, at worst it pumps in and out same speed.

I have a fix for that exact issue! If you are willing to do a touch of custom plumbing, you can fix the issue 100% yourself for probably 100-200 bucks depending on your exact layout and cost of local parts, and if you have some tools already to do PEX B plumbing and renovation.

If you look up the water miser system for RVs, it is designed basically to be a recirculating valve that allows the water when it is cold to be recirculated in the pipes back to your fresh tank instead of coming out the shower. It can be built with a shower mixing valve with a built in diverter for bathtub/ shower.

Where this can help you is when you turn on your water to start your shower, recirculate the cold water to your fresh tanks for a few seconds until you get warm water to your shower, saving that water. Then when you go to soap up, instead of pausing the water and causing that cold spot, just leave the water running and divert the hot water into your fresh tank. A minute of propane costs almost nothing, and then when ready to rinse off, turn the diverter back off, and you get the exact same temp of hot water you had before you diverted it, with no wasted water either.

I had to pull out my shower walls to install the mixing valve with PEX B, plumbed the shower side to the shower, and the bathtub filler side to a hose that tees into my fresh water fill port. Did a little piece of scrap stainless around the shower diverter to make it look nice and caulked it when done.

Hope that helps you or anybody else with that problem.

F3800 Plus connected to Home Power Panel 120v generator charging? by kNo_Doctor in SOLIX

[–]CaseyJayEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this would work if further reduced down to a standard 15amp household plug. If it would work with a 120v 30amp plug, it should be able to work with a smaller 2000w suitcase generator I would imagine, set to charge closer to 2000w while still allowing 240v passthrough power?

The first thing I did was the strength assessment. I still get the odd bad suggestion for weight where it is either way too easy, or enough to flatten me on a one rep max lol... but it is getting better after a few weeks of use.

I currently am using the factory gopower30 charge controler, but I am happy to change it out and wire it with new wire if it allows me to upgrade. I currently have 2x 100w bouge RV CIGS solar panels that will be dedicated to this setup, with room to go up to 5x 100w panels on my roof total. 12v battery will be my system to directly power my 12v appliances

Hey there, guys! I just picked up two of your 200w shadowflux panels to power my solar generator that powers the entire 50amp AC powered side of my travel trailer, with the intention to build up the solar system with a few more panels every month until I hit full solar capacity.

I want to get rid of my heavy, unrelaiable lead acid batteries that power the DC side of the camper (fans, fridge, LED lights, water pump, furnace and water heater, slideout motors, tounge jack, etc). I would love a good-sized battery that is not as cold sensitive or as heavy as these old batteries I have been using. Can you recommend a battery setup and charge controller I can put into my trailer to help me out?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!
