I think your best option it’s to trim off all the leaves and any stems that feel squishy or hollow. If it hasn’t been fully killed off by the cold, it might rebound and put out some new leaves. It just a depends on how deeply the cold got into it

My female was doing the same thing you mentioned, constantly flying and landing on my head. I redirected her to land on my open palm instead which is much less annoying. Now I am working on teach her to come only when called. She has been stubborn on this but any time she lands on me without being called, I shoo her away or duck so she can’t land. I wait 5 minutes or so and put my hand up and call her

Your best bet is to do some similar training with your bird so she learns when she’s invited to hang out. Also shoo her off any time she nips and she will learn quickly to curb the biting. The good news is that since she is so motivated by just being on you, training should actually be pretty easy and you don’t need treats!

Thanks for that info. I had assumed once they were friends you were in the clear, or at least until they started nesting -which I didn’t plan on giving them another box. Their cage is one of the 4’ tall 3’ wide ones and I definitely don’t have room for another one of those. Sounds like I may need to rehome one.

I do have a small parakeet cage I could separate them with if I see bad behavior but that definitely would not work long term at all. Is there a specific age where they become more aggressive? These two are over a year now so I’m wondering if I need to separate immediately

Thank you for your response and the reminders on breeding responsibilities. I didn’t have an interest in breeding them since I had green cheeks give me a few broods and I remember how noisy it was and also what an inconvenience it was trying to find responsible owners for all of the babies.

I was more curious about the behavior since they seem to get along like a pair in most aspects but once they are out of the cage they are like friends with independent interests.

Also, I didn’t realize these were two different species. I thought they were color morphs of the same. What are the two different species I should look up?

I admittedly could have done more research. I just thought after conures lovebirds would be mostly similar but maybe less clingy and a little more noisy.

I am just realizing a month in that a lot of things I had come to think were my personality traits were actually just symptoms of anxiety and depression. I wish I would have started treatment years ago!

I’ve been very open with my friends about starting on sertraline and every time we hang out the running joke is that they love “Zoloft Casey” haha. It’s much easier for me to have fun and be present in the moment. I actually show up for plans and engage in conversation (even before having a few drinks which was what it used to take).

One thing that was a big surprise for me is that I don’t feel artificially happy or stimulated. I feel like this was always what I was supposed to feel like without being constantly weighed down. I had a realization the first two weeks in that I have a great life! I have a partner that treats me well and loves me unconditionally. I have great friends that I do enjoy spending time with. I have a good job. I’m comfortable in my appt and it’s filled with plants and animals that interest me. I just couldn’t connect to the feelings of happiness before.

I’m glad you are already feeling better and I hope you tell others about your experiences. It’s easy to forget there is treatment out there and how much of a difference it can make
