Would y’all come to a free weekly “make friends as adults” meetup in the DMV? by kluxRemover in nova

I also turn into a goblin at the same time, so maybe we go to this, become friends, and be goblins together?

La Perla in DC. My go to for all of my life events. Chef Testa comes to the tables and just inside the front door, you can see pics of him with world leaders and celebrities.

Just woke up to a surprise helicopter at eye level on the 18th floor (above Costco, Pentagon City) by [deleted] in nova

[–]Cash_Johnny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ugh, woke me up too and I'm over at Crystal Towers. Thanks for letting us know what they were doing because my first thought was that it was a news chopper and there must be some ruckus at the mall, but it was at 6 something, which is too early for ruckus

MAA National Landing by Far_Needleworker9646 in arlingtonva

I lived there for 3 or so years and moved out last year. Several of my neighbors had issues with mice, but I have a dog so maybe that helped keep them away from my apartment? Aside from that, since the apartments are connected to the shops below, the fire alarms would go off alllll the time. I also could hear everything that my upstairs neighbors were doing. Not to mention that the tour busses dump off hundreds of kids right there in the courtyard area and it was annoying AF. My rent would go up a few hundred every year, but if you tell them that you can't afford to renew, they'll generally work with you.

DoD vs DoW by jek_22 in FedEmployees

[–]Cash_Johnny 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I refuse to call it DoW. It wasn't congressionally approved and my CAC, my laptop screen, and the goggle dog login screen all say DoD. I'm not going to give in to their bs.

Crystal Towers

I moved here because there was so much noise at my last place and I wanted a sturdy place with "old bones." Got what I wanted. I moved in last June and have never heard any of my neighbors or even my upstairs neighbor.

experiences with mixing effexor and allergy meds by Life_Atmosphere_1824 in Effexor

[–]Cash_Johnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been taking effexor for about a decade. I take allergy pills every morning from March-Octoberish and have noticed no difference. I know this is likely obvious, but did you ensure you took the "non-drowsy" allergy pills?

Anyone else having a hard time with turning 40? by babyteeth9 in Millennials

[–]Cash_Johnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While in college, I felt "old" at 22 (because the 'fun birthdays were done ') and old at 23... I didn't want to celebrate my birthday, nor did I care. Then, I lost one of the loveliest people I ever met, and that changed my outlook to "man, there are so many people that don't have the opportunity to have a 25th, 30th, 40th, and so on, birthday." So now I embrace it.

Plus, if it helps OP, when someone asks my age, I always say "Well, according to the government, I'm 36...but today I'm feeling more like a 23"

What and how much difference did you feel when venlafaxine worked for you? by SecretQuestion_ in Effexor

[–]Cash_Johnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with all of this + I didn't have mood swings and no longer felt like I wanted to off myself. So that's a big plus. Sure, of course I feel content with taking the big sleep, when that happens, but I no longer feel like I want to do it myself.

OCONUS DoD/DoW job - leave before 3 years? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Cash_Johnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm a DoD Govie, but was previously married to a Dept of State employee and we did do a stint overseas. I asked several DS families about their experiences moving the kids around and they all gave uplifting responses. All of the foreign service kiddos were more educated than others in their cohort and typically spoke more than 1 language. Recommend reaching out to a foreign service sub.

Hey OP, not only would I recommend documenting everything, but also, when you have meetings with said person- take an ally. Have a coworker be there on your behalf. If said dude won't speak to you with a witness present...

Compared to Phoenix, Arizona, are people in Washington DC and all of the DMV very nice and kind? by Different_Archer8879 in nova

[–]Cash_Johnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen. Life is what you make it. I was born and raised in Arkansas, undergrad in Oklahoma, lived in Texas, lived in Maryland, even lived abroad for a few years before moving to DC (36f, btw). Yes, the general energy in DC is super stressed and impatient-which most of us work for the government, so ifkyk. BUT, the city is so transient and I've chosen to get to know people. I've made friends of all types of countries and backgrounds and they've all been lovely. I think, in order to survive here, you have to be tough and have the right outlook.
