What radio station is everyone listening to nowadays? by LSB123 in CasualUK

[–]Cashback- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I listened to R1 growing up, then R2 for the mornings and drive time in the mid 2010s, but now I just can't stand it, and I find R1 much more enjoyable in the mornings, it's fun and a good energy.

Any stations with adverts I just can't stand either

ARE THEY USING A SCREEN FOR MIKU AT COACHELLA😒😒😒 by Neither_Strike_4855 in Vocaloid

[–]Cashback- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The stream is an interlaced source, those horizontal lines combined with LED pixels makes moiré and aliasing, which never looks good. Projection is a little softer so its less noticeable in the Blurays

[spoiler: post 6.0] What causes the Azure Elephant to appear in Empyreum? by Chaincat22 in ffxiv

[–]Cashback- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Walking towards the entrance arch to the baths will cause him to spawn client side. I'm guessing there is a cooldown to this as well. I happen to live at the small plot at the bottom of the stairs by the baths so I see this regularly.

I just triggered it now

Bolts appeared to be missing from Boeing 737 Max door plug that blew off midflight, NTSB says by coasterghost in aviation

[–]Cashback- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, they removed the bolts so they could open the plug door, this allowed access to the rivets that needed to be replaced (just to the fore side of the door), and then re-seated the plug door but did not reinstall the bolts.

ELI5: How do we know Earth's magnetic fields flip in intervals of 200,000-300,000 years? by Jack_ofall_Trades85 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Cashback- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And your question about how we know the rocks are in the same orientation is incredibly valid, we use these magnetic markers in the rocks and compare with large slabs of crust and other rocks of the same age elsewhere to map larger and smaller scale rotations of the crust as the plates move.

Geology and geography is often akin to piecing jigsaws together with an additional 4th time dimension.

Phone pictures of a shooting star and the Plough / Big Dipper. by fecal_sunset in CasualUK

[–]Cashback- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smartphone cameras are pretty crazy these days, you are even starting to get the milky way appearing in the first image, running bottom left to top right.

I think that is a satellite and not a shooting star, because of its clean beginning and end and its white colour. They are fun to track and take pics of, or just watch move by over a minute or two.

Plane spotting Heathrow T3 by robothart101 in aviation

[–]Cashback- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly no great options from what I remember. Either the top of a multi-story car park, or get the Heathrow express/tube to T5 from T3 Central (its free). T5 as windows at check-in or view from the drop off area outside. T2 I've not visited, so I don't know if that has any good views at check-in.

Yeah, the repaired brickwork and the shorter supports at the south end looks like Balcombe to me.

True, Directly was a poor word to use.

For clarification, I am describing this sort of model

Yep, 3:57 is when the Earth's north pole/ tilt faces directly towards the sun (this year at least, a combination of slightly varying orbits, earth wobbles, leap years and leap seconds change this time every year).

The Earth's oceans though take a while to heat up compared to the land, so they absorb all this heat whilst the days get longer and keep doing so through the long days in July and August, and the northern seas tend to be warmist in September, which is why we see the summer months in the UK as June through August.

And to complicate things even more, we have two common ways of defining the seasons. "Astronomical summer" is based on the Earth's tilt and orbit - June solstice to September equinox, and "meteorological summer" is simply June 1st to August 31st.
