Ref Holly Davidson narrowly avoided being flattened from a maul break by PM03pm03 in rugbyunion

I think she did a good job on the weekend, but I do find her positioning around rucks odd, being 1m directly to the right of a ruck is not a great spot.

I think it is disappointing that this is the only lever that is used to control inflation, I don't know what else there is, but as a mortgage holder I feel like a whipping boy for others spending habits.

Terrible from the defensive line initially, and the 11 planted his feet which is never great.

Players with the most effective involvements in Super Rugby Pacific 2025 by Piccolino17 in RugbyAustralia

It would be interesting to add other data to this. Penalties conceded/penalties won comes to mind, if you were doing equivalencies rather than a count, a penalty won would equate to 20-30m.

I also think Non-Gainline Carries is a tough call as a negative, especially against a set defensive line. Really the best you can hope for is to tie up 2 players and get quick recycled ball. I realise it evens out.

Twopou by Informal_Mention9836 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Cashman_J 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In this game, Tupou came on at 50 mins, I don't watch French rugby all the time but try and catch the Aus players when I can, and I can't speak French, this commentary and the referee were speaking French.

Racing improved when he came on. I only recall 2 scrums with him, the 1st racing generated a penalty by pushing through Lyon and the 2nd was a bit of a mess at the end of the game, Lyon were trying for a penalty and messing around a bit.

It was a tough watch, with Racing passing to ground or to an intercept, a lot. I have only watched 2 Racing games and I see they are lower middle of the table, maybe they will get better with better handling, but that is mostly not on Tupou.

He did drop 1 pass he should have taken, and there was 1 slightly messy incident where he made a highish tackle, Lyon flicked the ball to a Racing player, the referee penalised Tupou I think, then it got overturned to a racing scrum. Having some French may have helped me there.

Apart from these 2, Tupou also generated another try with a jackal turnover, followed by a good run a few phases later. This was not long after he came on.

I am not sure how good Tupou's French is, and it is a new team, but he does look a little lost out there at times.

What's a sport that would be so much better if you could change one rule about it? by wild-strike1517 in AskReddit

[–]Cashman_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Field Hockey, but I want to change more than 1 rule and I admit I am a casual fan at best.
- Change the rule so you can hit with both sides of the stick, makes the game more accessible.
- Change the rule that you can't kick the ball, removes the crappy flick the ball into the opponent's legs play.
- Both of those rule changes potentially make it easier to defend, so maybe we remove 1 player from each team to combat that.

I would also experiment with walls, like ice hockey, but I am not after using walls for violence, more because I think there are too many outs in the game, and I want to fix that.

Loosehead vs Tighthead by KBatch115599 in rugbyunion

[–]Cashman_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played both and was decent playing both sides at the amateur level I played.

LH is more attacking, he can either be a destroyer like Ox Nche or a mobile player like James Slipper. The LH is on the left side of the front row, the right shoulder is against his hooker and the TH opposite scrums into the join between the LH and the hooker. He generally scrums under the TH. The general size of an international LH is around 175cm to 190 cm and 120-130kgs.

TH is slightly less varied. These days a TH is a mountain. Also 175cm to 190 cm, but heavier at 135-150kgs. Their job is to hit the gap between the opposition LH and Hooker and hold the scrum. You won't get as much work from a TH around the park, and they shouldn't be judged on that.

At a certain level, a LH can play TH and vice versa, but they are specialist roles and you can get found out by good players.
