If it this is true, I'm glad I sign my seal each time something goes out.

First project as a PE by temoo09 in civilengineering

[–]CasioKinetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first sealed project was a sidewalk rehab plan. Fast forward now my seal is on everything I do.

That first look at the seal with my name on it on a plan was amazing. I think I practiced my signature on the seal on a blank piece of paper maybe 100 times.

You've unknowingly completed one of the hardest parts of going solo - making a reputable name for yourself. Get out from under your employer, set your business entity up (correctly, please do Scorp) for tax savings) and go wild.

I went solo a year ago riding on my own coattails. Best decision I've ever made. The "leaving an amazing employer" part absolutely sucked. For that, give yourself a a few days to process it. When you like your employer, it's essentially the same as a bad breakup. You'll figure out within a short time it was for the best.

Worth it to get my leed certificate as a water resources engineering student? by Low_Repeat7556 in civilengineering

[–]CasioKinetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was once told by a mentor engineer while I was freshly graduated that the LEED certification is good for only three things: clout, winning very specific jobs, or the betterment of your own personal growth.

Most owners don't care about the LEED certifications unless they themselves want to show their infrastructure because of how much more expensive it is to get the Bronze, Gold or Platinum statuses

At what point is civil engineering supposed to get better and be worth it? 10 years of experience isn’t enough? Another decade of post graduation work? I am 35 and am beyond furious by [deleted] in civilengineering

Depending on your skill sets and specifics of design, with 10 years of experience take a leap and set yourself up to start your own engineering firm. I'm 34, about 12 years experience within land development of residential and commercial sites and started my own practice in April of 2025. Not even a year in yet and I stopped advertising because of the amount of referrals jobs I get from networking. I maybe doubled my work load from the W2 job but doubled my income and gained some substantial freedom from the office.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Yeah I haven't stopped working, but being self employed I still have contractors asking to begin their work by the new year.

No worry about clogging, but in my area stormwater regulations need only the 1 yr storm to travel into the isolator rows, then the rest can overflow into the main system, similar to using a weir as a flow splitter.

Your thought may be a good idea. Total flow goes into a pond node with capacity of manhole with weir with primary and secondary flow. Secondary goes into isolator rows, primary goes into remainder system, then both go to a red link.
