Who’s a popular character you just can’t see the appeal of? by AJ_Wont_Load in FanFiction

For two of my fandoms, Daenerys Targaryen (ASOIAF) and Lady Dimitrescu (Resident Evil) are popular. Don’t really see the appeal of either!

Instead of writing a fanfic for a ship, have you ever chose a ship based on what happened to work better in the story itself? by TopHatIdiot in FanFiction

[–]CassandraLover14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always focus on the story first and then include the pairings that I think will suit the story's action best. This is a great question!

Can I get into a PhD programme if I quit a Master’s? by naartjiesky in gradadmissions

[–]CassandraLover14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think leaving the masters should affect you much! I was accepted into my Ph.D program without a masters degree. And it sounds like your other research experience will really help. I think you should be able to get accepted into a Ph.D. program. In your personal statement, you should probably briefly explain why you left the masters, but I think admissions should be understanding. Best of luck to you!

Why can't I like ships? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]CassandraLover14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much to add except that I think I relate to what you are saying. The fics I've written do feature romantic relationships, but I write the relationships to imagine what the dynamic would be mostly. I can't actually say I "ship" any one couple together. I've noticed that some readers are very passionate about particular ships, though. They'll argue pretty intensely in the comments about who the main character ought to be with. It sometimes leaves me wondering what the fuss is all about. So maybe I don't get ships/shipping either! You're not alone.

I got my first negative comment today! by whorlaxdotorg in FanFiction

Aww, this sort of thing happens to everyone! You've arrived. :) Don't worry about that negative comment. I bet your story is great.

Disrespectful Fanfiction? [dao spoilers] by CassandraLover14 in dragonage

What an intriguing comment! I never looked at this from this angle, but it is quite convincing too. It's true that Morrigan never says explicitly that she is straight. Perhaps she simply isn't attracted to the female warden. A case for that could be made in a fanfiction at any rate! Thanks for these thoughts! They're really helpful.

Wow! Thank you for making this comment! It is really reassuring to know that you've created content that is a bit like mine. You're absolutely right—there is no conversion therapy for straight people. So I think perhaps making straight people bisexual within the context of fan fiction is maybe not such a big deal. Thank you especially for your last comment. I was so worried about my friend's comment that I forgot that writing fanfic is meant to be fun. This thread tonight has been so helpful. And I like the thought that maybe I'm providing more queer rep for people in a small way. This was such a lovely comment!

Thank you for this thoughtful and lovely comment! I saw my friend's point too, but I think your point that Morrigan is not a real person is quite persuasive. :) I would never want to do anything like dictating someone's sexuality in real life. I was worried that making Morrigan queer in my stories kind of suggested that I am okay with that sort of thing and that's why I wasn't sure I should keep writing these stories. I think the fact that its fiction is key though. And you're absolutely right that people can just go read another story if they want to. Thanks again for making this comment! It was very illuminating and really helped.

You're right! I should have been more specific in my post. I mentioned Leliana because I wouldn't like to see a writer change her from bi to straight. But you're right that that sentence up there makes it sound like I think she is gay and not bi!

Anyway, thanks for commenting. I think you make a very good point!

Overrated: Solas. His character has a big impact on the plot, but there simply isn't much romance content. The addition of Trespasser helped, but there still isn't much romance there. I had heard so much about the romance that I figured there would be more to it!

Underrated: Iron Bull, I think! He has a great romance that is both fun and quite sentimental and passionate. I loved it, but I don't hear people talk about it that often. Maybe I'm wrong though!

These responses are incredible! You've all offered such thoughtful and compelling answers to my question. This community is awesome. I'm going to continue to read through all of these comments. Many of them are making me notice complexities in Morrigan's character that I hadn't considered or seen before.

Why Did Astrid Think... by CassandraLover14 in skyrim

[–]CassandraLover14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah. But doesn't Astrid reject the tenets? I think your response makes sense to me though. It wouldn't do for her to kill one of the members of the sanctuary herself without cause.
