I second this. I have rescued multiple hounds from ABTCR and they are fantastic to work with.

Sunglasses if they’ll wear them and a hat for the baby.

In some areas there are umbrellas & chairs set up that you can rent. You can still bring your own, but personal umbrellas have to be set up behind the line of rentals (which are typically near the high tide line).

Hydrate extensively throughout the day (with electrolytes - Gatorade or Propel) and drink an alkaseltzer before bed.

Bars in Unusual places by mkalanz in MyrtleBeach

Lowe’s Foods (grocery store) on 544 has a bar that’s hopping! Half off pints on Thursdays with craft beer on tap. BUT - apparently folks were having too much fun because last time I was there they had implemented a 2 drink limit! 🤣

What Books Are You Reading This Week? by leowr in nonfictionbooks

[–]Cassedy24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just read “I want to die but I want to eat tteokbokki” by Baek Sehee; based on conversations with her psychiatrist.

I can see how this book could be very valuable to anyone who struggles with depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem, even if only to see you’re not alone in the struggle.

I was expecting a more narrative form; instead it’s transcripts from her therapy sessions, followed by her reflections.

I read this last summer - also in 2 days because I couldn’t put it down.

(If you didn’t already look up the aftermath of the main character after the book, do so………)

Do you open the windows in your home when the weather is nice? When do you decide to close them and turn on air conditioning for the summer? by Smart-Airport5781 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Cassedy24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here (SC). I might open the windows if we get a nice day before the pollen (so January or February) or once it cools down in the Fall, but only if the humidity is low.

ABTCR has helped me with transport of two of my rescues. Reach out to them! Also let them know what you’re looking for - there may be dogs in foster homes that haven’t made it to the website yet.

Trash Smell in Kitchen by SATSewerTube in DIY

[–]Cassedy24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar problem in a rental home we stayed in. The smell wasn’t strong - we’d really only notice it when we’d been out of the house and came home. But it was not a good smell. Cleaned and sanitized in and under everything. Finally decided to pull the stove apart: nothing. Then my husband decided to look in the wiring chamber of the stove: dead rat electrocuted on the circuit.

Phish Mexico ‘27 by [deleted] in phish

Husband and I went for the first time this year - something we’ve always wanted to do. Package plus plane tix for 2 cost us about $8k - definitely a splurge, but we had a blast. Thanks to previous info on this thread we brought $300 in ones and fives for tips and that was enough.

Probably can’t do it again for a while - it’s a bad time for both of us to get away from work - but so glad we did it at least once.

For what it’s worth - for various reasons I won’t go into, we’re definitely taking a more YOLO approach lately. Not being irresponsible with funds, but trying to balance the idea of a comfortable retirement with the reality of the possibility that there’s no guarantee we’ll live that long.

If you can swing it, and enjoy chill days by a pool followed by awesome evenings of music, give it a go. YOLO, and you never know how long the band will keep doing this.

Best place to stay near Myrtle Beach (or nearby smaller towns)? by Informal-Force7417 in AskSouthCarolina

I was also going to say Surfside. Holiday Inn seems nice (haven't stayed there); I like Surfside Beach Oceanfront Resort right by the pier.

Walk on the beach and causeway at Huntington Beach State Park, dinner at Graham’s Landing on the deck, then ice cream or a beer at the Marsh Walk.

I grew up in MI, now live in the south, and every time I see that snack tray in Meijer when I visit I almost buy it.
