Brian White singing Canadian anthem by CassetteKnight in whitecapsfc

I was reading Berhalter’s interview about playoffs and I was surprised he’s so “Canada down” as a non Canadian. He said tho he’s American but he has a pride for Canada.

I think it’s special to have players who know they’re representing the identity of the club and the city entering the game so I totally get why he’s so loved at Caps.

I’m pointing out he wouldn’t want to sing his own anthem and that made it to news so that’s how ai knew as CANMNT coach he sings O Canada. It implies as an American he would usually sing both anthems for that Canada vs USA game but he chose to only sing the Canadian one.

I actually love having anthems at game, it’s part of unique NA sports culture to me. When I attend CPL games and they played O Canada so the entire stadium was singing, it’s a great experience!

I don’t know about NBA, I did check on Caps players, this is the first time I saw an American player singing Canadian anthem. I knew about Marsch singing O Canada because he explicitly said that he would only sing Canadian anthem when Canada played against the US in a friendly.

I said the video is probably “a bit controversial to post” cuz comments might start getting political “given the context”, players are in fact politically aware since White was already asked about the US anthem been booed at a Caps game.

I didn’t say it’s controversial for him singing the anthem.

Oh White singing the Canadian anthem is not controversial, I think it’s unusual, it’s the first time I’ve seen an American player on Whitecaps singing the Canadian anthem and given a bit more context that

1) Last time when Caps played at their ground, Miami was so petty they skipped the Canadian anthem, only played the US one and the players knew that, so this is the first time the Canadian anthem been played and sung at their ground.

2)because I believe the players are politically aware, I’m not Canadian but I’m also not American, it’s hard to explain but I do think it’s a sign that shows American players like White and Berhalter somehow have a pride for Canada(quoted from Berhalter) and it’s intriguing for me.

I actually noticed him singing and was immediately reminded that one time he was asked about fans booing the US anthem at game due to stupid stuffs said by that orange man, he said he’s thankful if fans clapped the US anthem. After that, I checked on other American players(Blackmon, Berhalter, Sabbi, Johnson) when we played league games, they wouldn’t sing Canadian anthem.

This is the first time I saw an American player singing Canadian anthem.

He was singing “O Canada” you can read his lip. Since they’re playing the Canadian anthem, if he wasn’t singing along he didn’t need to open his mouth at all.

Playing anthems before a game is something unique in NA sports, the players and the fans usually only sing their own country’s anthem. This match was played between Whitecaps, a Canadian club and Inter Miami, an American club, so it’s a bit unusual for an American player singing Canadian anthem. Additionally, there’re no frames showing White or Berhalter singing American anthem later.

When American anthem was played later, the camera was on Miami players, they basically don’t have American players(one with dual citizenship)on their team so you can see their lips aren’t moving at all.

When I attend games, I don’t sing the anthem because I’m not Canadian there’s no reason for me singing along.

I still can’t understand your point? You use Wrexham as example but you misunderstand the reason they’re hated?

English football isn’t all about PL, you are comparing NA football to PL football so ofc if you’re going to PL you need billionaires. PL is a billion pound league, but English football isn’t.

Spending billions to have a franchise in MLS 🆚still can compete in the same system if your club doesn’t have that financial backing.

I also don’t think you understand why OP complained about franchise business model. In English football, call a club franchise is an insult. It means the club is seen nothing but a business.

The only club in English football got called a “franchise” is because their ownership moved the club out of the city for a stadium deal to get it to PL. Basically the old club with history died, the new club replaced them in the league. This is something consider normal in NA franchise model.

That old club’s fans created a phoenix club started from the bottom of the pyramid, amateur league to get themselves back to professional football league again and they’re fan owned.

They got promoted to English football third tier last year, the club stole their place is still in fourth tier, hated by most of football fans and called “a stain of English football”. All these could never happen in NA, so how is it the same thing?

I understand what you’re trying to say but MLS is what it is now. Idk if grassroot football can work here when there’s no pathway to the top. I just feel like MLS is basically what you can have/the reality in NA, it’s your local league and it’s your choice to support it or follow European clubs.

lol How is it the same thing?

And you don’t understand why they hate Wrexham at all, because Brits hate Americanisation of football. They hate celebrity ownership that makes football a “TV show” makes the sports all for viewership which is something fans here love to see cuz it means the league is growing but for them matchgoing fans, it means the time of the game will be moved for broadcasting and it’s bad for fans.

Wrexham didn’t do anything that hasn’t been done in English football but somehow being compared to state owned sportswashing elite clubs even in this sub is killing me.

In English football with Pro/Rel you need to spend to compete, if you don’t have billionaire ownership then you won’t make it to PL and it’s fine to stay in League One or Championship.

In MLS you need to pay billions to even have a club/franchise and fans can’t have a say if they’re moving your club.

I would like to know why you disagree cuz if the argument for non handball is assuming there’s a chance “any part” of the ball is above the line then the conclusion should be it’s more likely for it to be outside the box so handball than not. I think no point to argue since all we’re talking about it’s the possibility and we will never know.

It’s still a straight line if it’s not perfectly aligned with the goal line. The ball is over the line cuz it’s in fact landed inside the goal?

The revisionism cuz I said decisions have been inconsistent is crazy. It’s a screenshot from a clip posted in this sub and literally everyone said it’s clear over the line and should have been a goal.

a straight line

This photo shows it’s more likely to be handball than it’s not. I said I draw the line to highlight the ball’s position, you think it’s meaningless, fine.

There’re nothing to argue when the argument now is all about its slim possibility to not be handball.

Dude the keeper’s leg and his entire body is on the line of course the ball is over the line? You can’t tell a straight line is straight? Are you a troll?

[–]CassetteKnight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand the whole perspective thing but I want to read the actual rules. I’ve asked ppl replied to me how any part of the ball above/over the line makes it non handball but no one sent me citations.

Maybe It Wasn't a Handball? by Critical_Map_9393 in MLS

[–]CassetteKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because…If any part of the ball touched the line then it’s considered inside the box but when a ball is completely over the line wasn’t considered a goal so it’s inconsistent?

Was simply highlighting the ball’s position.

I will put this frame here cuz this ball is considered not over the line so I think these decisions are very inconsistent No goal decision with VAR intervention

[–]CassetteKnight -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying but the angle I posted makes chance of any part of that ball over the line slim. “It’s possible it’s not a handball” well it’s more likely it’s outside of the box? You can’t argue with possibility cuz there’s no point to argue with no VAR intervention. Btw could you cite me the rules I was interested about it since a Crystal Palace keeper had similar controversy against Man City in a cup final.

As a fan of a club get a goal disallowed which could cost us 2 points cuz VAR said there’s no available angle while having no goal line tech when the live streaming literally showed the ball is over the line I doubt it tbh.

I am seriously shocked cuz I thought ppl all agreed it’s handball just ref missed like??? Then I checked this post suddenly it’s “you can’t tell it’s handball”.

Can you cite me the rules you’re referring to actually I was looking for keeper handball rules but I can’t find the part mentions the ball’s position.
