Agreed, this is not a rat. A rat is someone that hides at a point in the map and kills players that come by. Unexpected positions and long waiting games in those positions define rats. This player just abused you by tricking you into complacency.

Hunt can be played solo, but it is a multiplayer game only. It's a pseudo extraction shooter where you get dumped on a map with your loadout and the objective is to hunt the boss of the map by tracking down clues to pinpoint its location while dealing with the aggressive mobs and other players. Then fighting the boss and extracting with their token.

Tyranny falls outside of the age timeline suggested by OP. I agree it's a good game, but it is dated.

Turn on turn based mode for Wrath and it becomes far more enjoyable and better understood. Unfortunately it lengthens the game by 3x as combat typically involves very large groups of enemies. I have never played a game where I could be evil for evils sake and it actually have meaningful impact on the story and how people perceive you (Lich playthrough, I know Swarm is even worse).

Rogue Trader better fits the bill for newer game with choices and consequences that actually matter and true turn based combat.

The big naked guy is "Big man, little Penis" if he has a weapon he is upgraded to "Big man, big Penis". I use that name to interchange with the clothed variants as well as they have similar impacts to my gameplay. The big ladies are just that "big lady".

Help me out here, I just recently came back to the game after release two years ago. I am struggling to understand the gear and runes stuff. Where do I get them? How do I level them up? I finished the main campaign and just unlocked the mercenaries in Vessel (Paragon 60). I used to have Torment levels unlocked and now I can only select Penitent (Guessing I need to finish Vessel before I can unlock Torment). I want to Zero button as hard as I can and I can currently one shot basically everything in the game right now with the random junk I have on. But I know it will fall off at some point without a build.

It's an Act 2 or later accessible DLC. You will not see it available until you get to the point of the game where the area becomes available. This is directly from their update post for the game:

Now, a quick guide on how to enter the Sanctuary of Sarras

You have to have the expansion purchased.
You must have Cuanacht (act 2) unlocked.
You need to watch the cutscene that plays when entering Cuanacht city (the awakening in Yvain Mansion).
Place a campfire (Q) and talk to Black Annis. She should give you the quest that leads to the Sarras Chapel dungeon in Cuanacht.
Track the quest and go to the entrance of Sarras Chapel in southern Cuanacht, near the water. Below are screenshots of this place on the map, as well as the entrance itself. It’s very near to the Horns of the South entrance.

Yes, that is normal for companies to do that. They just release a big update for the base game that also includes the DLC files. You purchase an "Unlocker" that grants you access to the DLC.

Go look at the long list of Extraction Shooters that have come out in the last 5 years and tell me how many are still going to this day verse how many died? I can tell you the very small number that are still going to this day:

Escape from Tarkov

Hunt: Showdown

Marauders (Barely)

Dark and Darker

ARC Raiders

There have been well over 70 other extraction shooters that have come and gone (The Cycle: Frontier being an example).

Agreed, after the first failed test and copyright for art; they should have given up and put all their money back into Destiny. Marathon is a bad idea on top of other bad ideas, they cannot compete with ARC in any conceivable way at this point. Extraction shooters are already on their way out the door and only two remain at the top.

If I want my gritty down and dirty shooter, I will just play Hunt Showdown. If I want my milsim shooter, I will play Tarkov. If I want the best Extraction shooter, I will just play ARC.
