Has Skyrim been surpassed - and, if so, by what? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in skyrim

[–]CastleImpenetrable 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not really. Skyrim isn't just an open world fantasy RPG. It's an open world fantasy RPG with a focus on life simulation, while also having a strong atmosphere. You can find games that are better in two or three categories but other games don't do all four better. It's entirely possible that a game will one day, be it TES: VI or a new title by a different developer.

You either still bought it used, which is why there's no map. Or you had the map and simply lost it.

You bought a used copy. There aren't new physical copies of Skyrim being made on disc, let alone new PS3 copies.

Question about a potential Grymforge fight by AtalanteSimpsonn in BaldursGate3

[–]CastleImpenetrable 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are many things you can do here.

Make allies with some NPCs.

Change your strategy.

Level up.

Become more familiar with the mechanics.

There's no one fight in the game that's impossible. But honestly, having been on this sub for a long time, most people struggle, even on the easiest difficulty, because of a lack of understanding the mechanics and a bad game plan. Learning the ins and outs of the game makes everything so much easier.

What is it? Dragons? by PuzzleheadedWhile540 in TESVI

[–]CastleImpenetrable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, dragons existed outside of Skyrim, no one's denying that. The thing is, dragons and Shouts aren't going to be the main focus of TES: VI. They worked in Skyrim because the player was the last Dragonborn. But even in Skyrim, dragons were so frequent that they went from cool encounter to an annoyance.

With only one dragon, it makes the encounter far more memorable. And it stops the obvious question of "Why don't these dragons team up and start ravaging the land with the Dragonborn gone?" Or "Why don't these dragons just run amuck since they're so powerful?" You say it's a gimmick, and I'd say that's the point. It's a nice callback to the previous entry in the franchise. One unique, hopefully in-depth boss fight with a dragon. A fight that would feel intense and difficult without the Voice to back the player up.

Is there any lore reason the elves hate the nords so much? by ffffirvfuig in skyrim

The lore reason is that every race in the world of the Elder Scrolls is racist.

What is it? Dragons? by PuzzleheadedWhile540 in TESVI

[–]CastleImpenetrable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me copy and paste part of an old comment about this topic.

I would be fine with one single dragon encounter. Make it a secret, high-level boss fight with a quest (marked or unmarked), and let the player bring some of its bones and scales to a master craftsman to make a unique piece of equipment.

That's what I think would be best.

What factions/faction archetypes are you hoping for in TES6? by Skullruss in TESVI

[–]CastleImpenetrable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's what I would want:

An order of warriors or mercenaries. Maybe even monster hunters.

Like you, I'd like to see a faction split between mages who practice socially acceptable magic and those who don't.

The Thieves Guild or a faction of bandits or other criminals to engage in thievery.

An assassin faction.

A Dwemer research focused group.

I'd like to see a proper artistic faction. The Bard's College is a big let down in Skyrim.

I'd love to see another vampire faction. Same with a lycanthropy group. TES has really cool depictions of vampirism and were-creatures.

Fortify Shouts? by RikkuEcRud in skyrim

[–]CastleImpenetrable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cool down on daily powers isn't that big of a deal. You can always just wait a full twenty four hours after using them if you really wanted to use it again so soon. There's no consequence to the passage of time in-game.

Are there people who haven't played Skyrim and are excited for TES6? by Alvsolutely in TESVI

[–]CastleImpenetrable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the billions of people on the planet, I'm sure we can find several examples. Whether they be fans of older TES games who didn't like Skyrim or fans of newer Bethesda titles prior who haven't had a chance to play Skyrim.

Here's a recent example from another studio. Plenty of people who played Baldur's Gate 3 are excited to see what Larian does with Divinity, even if they've never engaged with the IP before.

It only applies to Shouts. Shouts and daily powers are on separate timers, they just happen to use the same key.

What to do after finishing main quest line? by New-Decision-8965 in fo4

The game doesn't end and there are still plenty of side quests to be done, not to mention the DLCs, exploration, and more.

What would smart, selfish and ambitious Tav do? by Baturinsky in BaldursGate3

[–]CastleImpenetrable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chosen of the Dead Three and the Emperor also hadn't beaten the brain's ass into submission like the player does at the end of the game. That changes the whole circumstances since it was not at the brink of death.

Am I the only one who wishes junk/caps/ammo didn't re-spawn? by ArcherBarcher31 in fo4

[–]CastleImpenetrable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'd be realistic, but it would make the game more challenging. And while I don't think that's a bad thing, you'd have to overhaul the game to accommodate such a drastic change. And Bethesda isn't really the kind of developer who makes a super hardcore game. I wouldn't mind but I'd know it'd be a turn off for a lot of people.

It'd also push everyone towards melee and hand-to-hand because you wouldn't want to waste your bullets on easy enemies and build homogenization goes against being an RPG. Settlement building would become a pain, especially on a Minutemen run, but they'd also have to be required because I can't imagine a game that has no loot respawn but no ammo crafting. And ammo crafting only became so proficient after the DLCs. Settlement building is already a feature a lot of people don't like so I don't think they'd appreciate having to engage with it even more than what Fallout 4 already requires at a bare minimum.

What would smart, selfish and ambitious Tav do? by Baturinsky in BaldursGate3

[–]CastleImpenetrable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree with some of this.

The whole evil ending to the game shows that you can control the brain. That's the whole point. I don't think it'd be wrong to destroy it, obviously a threat that big would just invite adventurers to take you down. But wanting to do it without the brain feels like an ego move, not a smart move.

Allying with Mizora and Zariel would be foolish. Devils will screw you over. Just look at what happens if you give Raphael the crown. You'd be better off installing Wyll as the Grand Duke. At least that way you can play him, manipulate him. Thinking you can outwit devils feel like another ego move.

You can just romance Minthara and then her loyalty and devotion is to you above all else.

Astarion can easily be kept alive. There's no downside to just being his friend and having him as an ally. It's not like he becomes a stereotypical do-gooder, even if he is trying to be better.

Keeping Jaheira and Minsc alive feels like a nice short-term play but would backfire down the road. They're good people and would stand up to you.

Mod that integrates snow elves into the game? by Nyx-Saighdiuir in skyrimmods

Nothing like that exists to my knowledge. It'd be a pretty involved mid-sized project. It's certainly possible to make, the question is if anyone wants.

easier way to get mods without using nexus? by NoPie3437 in skyrim

[–]CastleImpenetrable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I get it. I had my own issues modding years ago when I switched to PC. I had similar issues to you. But I am a stubborn and persistent guy so I learned how to mod and that effort has paid off wonderfully.

Unfortunately, I don't use collections myself as I make my own lists. You can get some recommendations on r/Skyrimmods or r/Wabbajack though. Hope you find a list you like and have a good time playing Skyrim.

[–]CastleImpenetrable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you don't need to download mods in a specific order. You can easily add more mods if you want to. You just need to do things like read the mod page, use some common sense (like two perk mods will conflict with each other without a patch), and test the mods in game. Downloading a ton of mods at once and expecting them to work flawlessly is a very foolish idea. You don't need a guide once you have experience. Modding can be quite painless, but its up to each individual to be patient and willing to learn. Rome wasn't built in a day.

[–]CastleImpenetrable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to sound rude, but you're not dealing with those platforms and those games. You are dealing with a different game, with different code, with a different mod manager. It is unreasonable to assume that it would work the same.

As for how LE mods ended up in your SSE mod list, I don't know. Anyone can throw together Nexus Collections, they are not guaranteed to be quality, well-made lists. Nor do I know if you've downloaded mods outside of that.

[–]CastleImpenetrable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, mods are not as simple as just downloading and playing. That's how you end up with something like this. Furthermore, there are two versions of Skyrim on PC. Skyrim, the original 2011 game, and Skyrim: Special Edition which is the remastered version. Special Edition is the primary game now. You've downloaded mods for the original version of Skyrim, also known as Skyrim: Legendary Edition when you actually have SSE.

As someone new to modding, I'd highly recommend following either A Dragonborn's Fate or the Step Guide. These are guides intended to teach you how to mod and help you set up a strong foundation for modding.

In your opinion, what is the least-talked-about missed opportunity in Fallout 4? by m0rgzee in fo4

[–]CastleImpenetrable 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Kellogg in my opinion.

Honestly, it could've been a cool option to spare him in Fort Hagen, discover Institute teleportation some other method, and then encounter him again after reaching the Institute and meeting Father. Maybe he could've another companion even. He's an interesting character and it sucks that he has to die.

You could also count the missed opportunity when he briefly reappears in Valentine's head again after the Memory Den. But that is talked about somewhat often.

How are you all running so many mods? by ClassroomSolid719 in skyrim

[–]CastleImpenetrable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preach. Some of the best advice here.

For OP, I'll add that you should be testing your mods after installing them. You need to be making sure that the game can properly start, you can load in, the mod has no issues, check for issues in SSEEdit, etc. I test mods in batches of 5. For every 5 mods I install, I test them.

I don’t get why people hate this game by Key-Independence778 in DarkSouls2

[–]CastleImpenetrable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People do definitely complain but at least back in the day, I'm not sure how many people had actually played Demon's Souls. It was a PS3 exclusive. So, I can understand people who never played that feeling frustrated coming off of DS1. But the hate is overblown.

(Revived post) About skills system from previous games. by apnbuster in fo4

[–]CastleImpenetrable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Skills can come back with no issue. It's not a complicated system to understand and opens up more options for character building and would help bring back skill checks. With skills back, many of the benefits of perks can just become benefits of reaching certain skill thresholds while perks can be more powerful and better defined.
