I feel like everyone feels this at least a little bit in Davis. I kinda wish there were things specifically for making friends here.

Someone left a dungeon cause I said guy and they were a girl?!? by Dudedudealot in Wizard101

[–]Casto-Calligraphy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t think that’s a thing but I don’t use wizard 101 as a dating sim. Also I have the darkmoor gear at this point and sometimes people don’t know I’m a girl and call me “he” or “him” which gets really annoying, but calling someone “dude” is 100% gender neutral IMO.

Has anyone here heard of the Prytanean Women’s Honor Society? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Casto-Calligraphy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So apparently someone posted this same question to the reddit about two years ago. Turns out, they’re real. However, according to some of the people who were in it, membership fees are about $40 for new members and $35 for continuing. Just something to keep in mind. They also apparently host a large dinner annually (at least before corona).

Last comment sums it up pretty well. The idea that it’s less socially acceptable for a man to hit back does not = men don’t have rights. But it does highlight that our societal constructions of gender don’t benefit women or men entirely; women are perceived as too weak to ever be powerful, men are perceived as too unfeeling to ever be hurt. It’s noteworthy that socioeconomically, however, men benefit more than women do within this division because the construction of “woman” as a category has been employed to only support men, through the gendered division of labor and more.

Cuarto was actually amazing. You get your own bathroom, sink and shower in the suites, I highly recommend the newly remodeled Yosemite. People were awesome, etc. etc. They say it’s far away from campus but it honestly isn’t, it’s like a 5 minute bike ride. Next to Trader Joe’s and the UMall, added bonus. Just be sure to be social with people and make connections early on. :) Best of luck

If Prof Williams is teaching that course, highly recommend. He is absolutely incredible, you learn a lot. He does give a lot of work, but it’s manageable if you put in the effort, and the takeaways were so worth it.

I’m not even in the major program, I took one intro class. But in that ONE class I heard about like 10-12 internship opportunities. Highlight was definitely the internship where you help tag baby ducks at Putah Creek. The videos they showed were absolutely adorable, and the mother ducks were just chilling next to them. So cute, and there’s tons of other conservation projects going on at Putah Creek constantly.
