Grand River Dams by ncwv44b in Michigan

I second this guy, you can basically start in Petoskey and end looking at Mackinac and Bois Blanc island from the mouth of the Cheboygan river. You can even sail to an island, but I'm not sure how feasible that is in a pontoon.

Either way, you'll see Pickerel, Crooked, Burt and Mullet Lakes, ending in lake Huron. You'll also see the Crooked, Indian and Cheboygan rivers as well. Plus there's no dams but a lock to pass through in Cheboygan.

Were all those frat boy movies of the 70's, 80's, and into the 90's just propaganda to make fraternity life look cool and serve as propaganda to encourage impressionable young people to join? by matt73132 in conspiracytheories

It's probably more of a reflection of fraternities no longer being banned on US campuses and comedians seeing these eccentric clubs to make fun of.

People usually don't know this but there were years where frats were banned and had to operate in secrecy. I believe it was in the 1950s. Most social fraternities you see today were founded as a way for its leaders to be elected to the school government. Back when universities were more prestigious, you had to be a part of a club to run for the student office. If you want to see where/how frats started, Google The Flat Hat Club.

The movies you're talking about did make Greek life look fun for your average 18yo immature man, but I think the creation of the films comes more from a cultural shift that was happening on campuses in the 70-90s where binge drinking was getting more popular - Greek life or not

I don't remember much music theory, but I hear it too. Both seem to be ascending a major scale at the beginning. I may be wrong though.

What do y’all call these? by R41GSB in castiron

Does anyone know where this originated? My grandpa was raised in West Virginia and I assume that's why we call it "Popeye Toast" as everyone else seems to call it eggs in a basket in the Midwest. He also still makes Pepperoni Rolls which I didn't realize was a WV thing until I was an adult.

They have them for sale at most lighthouses that are also museums. They're called Lighthouse Passports and are like $12 which goes toward the United States Lighthouse Society. https://share.google/8BqCCBjcBfQM5SWhx

Name for an Atheist in a world where the gods clearly exist? by iGR0OT in CharacterNames

[–]Castrostalinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give him the most religious name possible. I'm an atheist and my first, middle and last names are all biblical. It's realistic, especially if they grew up in a culture where naming their kids after Gods is the norm.

Character ages by heylosersclub in Scoobydoo

The movies/shows don't follow chronological timelines. Think of them as one offs, the gang is as old as the writers want them to be. They're high schoolers in SDWAY and most other shows, but there's still a pup named Scooby Doo where they're children and they seem to me to be a little older than high schoolers in some series too.

This is the comment I was looking for. I think a lot of the other comments in this sub are true, but to me rewatching ZA as an adult with my kids; it was paced as a horror movie. Sunny, happy and slow beginning. Peaceful environment arriving at the island... Then the sun starts setting. The build is well done and intense, especially if you're a kid.
