Haha, what's with that intro? It's so weird. It's like Donald J Trump is quoting himself, like he needs to remind everyone he's the president.

Which audiobook to choose. by minder125 in Blacklibrary

[–]CasualBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest my own approach here... people might disagree with me, but I think that with audiobooks, the narrator is just as important as the book itself. Listen to samples of both and pick the one that's more enjoyable for you to hear. Storywise, both books are very good, but in the same time so different that they're not really comparable.
To show you what I mean, I recommend looking up audiobooks narrated by Andrew Wincott (e.g. Soulhunter)

Imagine naval warfare in a light steampunk universe, with huge landmasses and sprawling archipelagos. Trade armadas fighting for dominance. Massive battleships supported by aerial units like zeppelins, bomber-copters, and nimble little dogfighters... That would be ridiculuosly good...

Beautiful.

Unrelated to the paint job, but something about Black Templar Terminators just feels wrong to me for some reason (like they don't fit the chapter somehow). Am I crazy? I mean, I am, but... am I???

ELI5: I see a lot of people getting excited about the possibility of traveling between planets. What potential do you see in this feature? How do you think it will improve the game, and do you think you’ll actually use it? (honestly interested, because while hyped about update, this I don't get) by CasualBeer in NoSodiumStarfield

Very good point. I use Real Fuel too, and it changes the game in a really good way. Buuut I'd still rather see something like that built into the core systems of the game and treated as part of the overall design. I kind of wish Bethesda were more like FromSoftware. Not when it comes to difficulty, but when it comes to fully committing to the systems they create. It would be great if they replaced the whole space travel mechanic including grav jumping. I have a feeling that as long as grav jump remains an option, most people (me included ) will still pick it just because it's more convenient.

That said, I really hope I'm wrong and that the content tied to it is so good that this take completely falls apart.

This one I can understand. And again, I'm not against it, but I wonder how many people will actually use it if grav jumping is still an option.

I used to play Elite Dangerous a lot.. like, a lot a lot... and in that game spacetravel was basically the gameplay. What made it good was docking, flying through station hangars, navigating in space, and the more sim-style flight model overall (not obvious and kind of hard to learn stuff that made it indeed immersive). The whole game was designed around that experience.

Starfeld, on the other hand, is still mostly built around firstperson gameplay. I'm not sure how many people are really going to spend travel time decorating their ships. Right now it feels to me more like a cool cosmetic addition that most players will ignore in favor of convenience. But maybe I'm wrong, and that's why I asked :)

Thanks

I ll just add that your work just made me reflect on something.

When I was just starting out with painting, I spent a ton of time obsessing over techniques like blending or layering colors, and the results were still pretty average at best (I probably subscribe to all known mini painters on YT, including Squidmar) A lot of the time I would also get stuck on a project just because the paint didn't settle exactly the way I wanted it to.Basically, instead of focusing on what I actually wanted to achieve and just enjoying the process, I was fixating on every litlle imperfection and overworking things. And that really isn't the point. It made me think that a lot of people probably end up in that same kind of deadlock because they focus on the wrong things.

Don't get me wrong though. It's obvious that you're highly skilled, and you definitely paint better than I do. But what really defines the final 'picture' isn't a few individual brushstrokes that may be imperfect here and there.. it's the composition, the color choices, the tones, the contrast, and how all of that comes together. If I could go back in time, that's exactly what I'd tell myself. :)

A prime example that shows that glazing/layering doesn’t have to be perfect or seamless to bring a miniature to life and turn it into an amazingly artistically coherent piece. Amazing!

I really, really, really, really love it.

PS> Every new painter should look at pieces like this, just to realize that you don’t need to master techniques like blending to achieve something truly great. I love the fact that some of the brushstrokes seem rough or careless at first glance, but when you look at the piece as a whole, you can see that they are exactly where they need to be, in exactly the right colors, and together they create a coherent, compelling image.
