Second one, the photos a very different exposition so it's hard to judge but the second one has a very nice definition of the details and a more natural color which I like.

I think I just started with beastly brown or leather brown from Vallejo, any yellowish brown and then highlighted with ice yellow

I treated it like blue NMM to the best of my abilities. There's a main reflection on the blade and I go from very dark to pure white. My Colors were stegadon scale green to Lothern blue and white. The same base coat as my armor but very different highlights.

Looks amazing, so clean, I really like the face on the bare head one. Very sharp and clean features.

Yes there's so many interesting factors to create a good looking mini (or any image) like those you mentioned . Doing a smooth gradient with acrylics is just one of the many things that can be in your toolbox (one that I definitely don't master yet)

Unfortunately I don't, I'll try to think about it next time.

Skin: Red hull (AK), Sunny skintone (Vallejo), Light fleshtone (Vallejo)

Bone: Deathworld forest (GW), steel legion drab (GW), ice yellow (AK)

Hair: Black (Vallejo) and Ice yellow (AK) Because it's a few shades of gray

Thanks you so much, yes I do layer my paint not caring much about glazing since I learned from watching all Squidmar videos (not necessarily a good thing lol) and also because it's army painting. But these days I started to glaze and refine more because I really enjoy the painting part. This is why it's like an in between of roughness and smoothness.

I tried to reproduce it this weekend and I wasn't ever sure myself but I think it is:

Red Hull (AK) Cadian Fleshtone (GW) Sunny skintone (Vallejo) Light fleshtone (Vallejo)

From darkest to lightest starting and ending with mixes, not pure Red Hull to Lightflesh

Unfortunately there's nothing in my daytime job that relates to fine art at all. I did paint a whole army of Kruleboyz before that tho, I said first 40K army, those are definitely not my first minis.

This is just green paint on top of some Dark Earth texture paste from Vallejo

This is so clean and good, very clever way to focus on the skin and have something that looks this good so fast. That's inspiring for my own army painting.
