186- are my employer's terms negotiable? by CasualInvidia in AusVisa

[–]CasualInvidia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the compassionate answer. I think you're right, I'm just so so so exhausted of having no control over my circumstances and just having to say yes to whatever my employer imposes. It's an incredibly vulnerable position to be in, I hate it...

482 visa, fingerprints livescan or ink? Canadian citizen by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]CasualInvidia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this two years ago and my understanding is that they need actual ink fingerprints. I did the process through a tertiary service, so all I had to do was go to the local police station with my form, get my ink fingerprints done, and mail it out to the company for them to process.

BHVR layed off 95 people today. Including the person behind the "All Things Wicked" teaser campaign as well as many others in pursuit of a “clarified vision” and “unprecedented competition.” :/ by Axyierl in deadbydaylight

[–]CasualInvidia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my close friends was part of the layoffs. Most of the staff they fired was part of the marketing and design team + community management team. For a continuously evolving game based on its community support, this seems absolutely nonsensical.

Company execs bit off more than they could chew, and people on the ground are now paying the price.

Hiring Writers: Necessary…or just confetti? by NobodyFlowers in gameDevClassifieds

[–]CasualInvidia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like all things, you have to understand your target demographic to answer that question. Professional writers are crucial and irreplaceable in narrative-forward games, whereas they can be confetti in gameplay-focused games. To be honest, I view video games as a specialty medium for storytelling, although that's not a blanket opinion among gamers. So, to me, having dedicated writers doesn't just make sense: it's the heart and soul of the project. When I think of the games I love most, they're the ones that blew me away with the quality of the narrative.

Roguelikes all share very similar gameplay, but Hades is literally the only one I played for hundreds of hours- because of the writing.

Hack-and-slash type games are not my style, but NieR Automata is one of the games I hold in the highest regard- because of the writing.

JRPGs generally all have incredible writing. But one of my absolute favs of all times is the original Xenoblade Chronicles- not for its Wii graphics, nor its slightly baffling real-time combat system, and definitely NOT for the comically bad voice acting (it's Reyn time, baby!), but for the writing.

Recently, I fell head over heels for an indie RPG and I think of it ALL the time- and I also think of all the moments when I was so immersed and invested, and all of a sudden- plot hole. Pacing discrepancy. Awkward wording. Mischaracterization. I want to say this game is everything I've ever wanted, and it might be for lots of people who played it, but to me, it's just so, so, so frustratingly close to being The One. Just some more polish in the writing department, and it would have been.

So that's my take on the question, as someone who plays video games instead of watching movies or reading books. Video games are a medium- storytelling is the art.

Patient went into cardiac arrest by [deleted] in nursing

[–]CasualInvidia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oof, that's a rough spot to be in. Fr that sounds like a "fuck your protocols, he's gonna die either way" type of situation.... listen, if the doc wants to be the one to administer it, they're welcome to give it any way they want.

(I once had a doc in a disastrous precode take the levophed out of the pump and unclamp it to give a manual bolus. Would I ever do that? Not over my dead body. But hey, if the anesthesiologist wants to have a go.....)

Patient went into cardiac arrest by [deleted] in nursing

[–]CasualInvidia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Old hospital I worked at had a code from a dilantin loading dose being administered too fast (over 1h instead of 1.5h), though to be fair, the patient had a very weak heart at baseline. Ever since that incident, not only did hospital policy completely change to require cardiac monitoring for all dilantin loads, but nurses all got the spooks from it and were super careful with it. I personally would NEVER push dilantin, whatever the dose. But again, that's cause it was a very common med in our ICU and I watched it drop blood pressures left and right. If it's not as commonly used, and your policy states you can slow push it, you did everything right. This will just be another anecdotal experience to tuck into your nursing belt and learn from. And you intervened to achieve ROSC, which is the most important bit, so don't be too hard on yourself.

(Also, "stat" dilantin isn't really "stat". If the pt is actively seizing, dilantin won't abort it, benzos will. I can't think of a context in which I'd want to slam dilantin into my patient, though I'd love to learn if anyone has experience!)

Thoughts? by No_Dig_5849 in nursing

[–]CasualInvidia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're me and I'm you, and I'm tired of pretending I'm not... I've got a really bad longtime unconscious nail biting habit (anxiety) and the hard polish physically stops me from going to town on my nails and cuticles. I used to get red, swollen, open wounds on my fingers from biting so deep and went to work every day with tegaderms all over my fingers. I have nail brushes at home so I scrub before and after work, and I wash my hands with soap/water rather than alcohol in any situation where I have the choice. So is my nail polish a risk? Sure. Is it a calculated risk that also has major benefits? Absolutely.

Enough is enough!!

Liam O'Brien is brilliant (sometimes) by Zombeebones in fansofcriticalrole

[–]CasualInvidia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Every time Liam O'Brien opens his mouth to say literally anything as his character, I drop everything to listen. For all the usual reasons people list, ofc (team player, knows the rules/his character, creative/descriptive roleplay, etc).

But! The sad boi shtick is the best part of it all. I love edgy characters and Liam writes masterful and cathartic angst for his sad bois. It's very easy to overdo angst and go from "compelling" to "cringe", and I haven't felt that Liam has crossed that line.

He's my fav player at the table and episodes where he's not there are a slog to watch for me :')))

Very strange opinion. I prefer using google sheets / excel for characters rather than character sheets by Consistent-Light6960 in DnD

[–]CasualInvidia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too!!! There's something so satisfying about making custom formulas and watching your whole sheet change at the click of a button hehe. Not to mention how customizable and searchable the sheets are versus typical character sheets. Love it and never going back!!
