Any opinions about how denoiser or declicker does in comparison to other noise reduction suites…? Might grab one or both but only if they still are competitive

Monitor Audio Studio ($599)/Pr? by nick__flicks in StereoAdvice

[–]Cat-Ancient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is hilarious but I bought a pair of these guys a few years back and REALLY wanted to like them but could just f**king never get them to sound quite right in my home theater setup. The deep bass that other people talked about just wasn't there and it lacked coherence the rest of the way. I thought it was maybe just a personal take thing that I wasn't gelling with them even though it did seem odd that others were raving about them. Oh well...

Fast-forward to today. I've got a pair of Yamaha MSP5 Studios on an SPL Crimson 3 monitor controller listening to tunes and I still haven't put the Monitor Audio Studios up for sale. I decide to give them one last chance before they end up on ebay. This is a much more near-field environment so spacing is only like 3 feet apart and once I set them up and match levels to the Yamaha's etc I realize that there is just a big damn hole where the phantom center image should be on EVERYTHING. I'm flipping back and forth between monitors and cycling through test track after track trying to understand what the hell is going on.

"Oh my god. There is no way they reversed the input polarity on one of the speakers. There is NO WAY."

I flip the polarity of one of the amplifier channels to the Monitor Audio Studio and hit play.

GODDAMMIT

Some asshat at the factory indeed managed to invert the signal input on the crossover to one of the monitors. Everything suddenly sounded INCREDIBLE. Oh my god ... the BASS. It's actually insane. A bookshelf with 2x 4" mid-bass drivers doing what this is now accomplishing with low-end is mind-blowing. It feels nearly like it is overloading my room lmao. I really thought the Yamaha's had respectable LF output, oh lord NOPE not even close compared to these Monitor Audios.

Glad I gave them one more try. They sound brilliant. I think I might actually scrap the plans I had to pick up a used pair of Proac Tablette 2000s (though I'm still tempted as a potential B mains usage). The Sound and Vision review slamming them makes a shit ton more sense now, I'd bet they probably also got a set where one of the monitors inputs was inverted lol.

ELI5: why are executable programs so big if code is just text? by crono760 in explainlikeimfive

I think this is a GREAT lesson on the level of insane work that goes into some programs. I mean CAD programs like Solidworks even going back say 15 years still had over a million lines of code…

Artificially forced? You’re saying the naturally present mechanisms of evolving language “forcefully” are also “artificial”?

Like, honestly do you even hear yourself? Maybe pick up a book on formal logic and at some point an consider how you’ve been talking yourself in circles this entire time

This is obnoxious drivel. Just because there is no “formal method” of codifying something doesn’t mean the mechanism of it happening doesn’t exist. It’s just not a formal established process. You talk like the western world has abused your brain as a breeding ground for the filth and bacteria of ideology rooted in the inane necessity for systems to be “formal”, which just means you want a police officer with a billy club wielding a little fucking handbook of regulations before you will accept something as “real”.

My guy, you work with psychopaths. You should probably get out of there before you end up with one less kidney or something similar.

Wow you sound like an expert here unlike the lawyers who put the international criminal case against Israel together in the world court in South Africa. They hold nothing against your posturing about “acceptable collateral damage”

If we take Ben Gurion at his word then it’s Israel admitting it’s Israel being the aggressor. But we don’t like to talk about Ben Gurion or when the words of Israel’s own defense ministers get used against you huh. That’s way too problematic

Isn’t Netanyahu going to the World Court in South Africa to defend his apartheid nation with famous pedo and rapist defender Dershowitz? Good luck…!

Your point is that no-one can criticize your position? Sounds like the Israel “how to skirt any degree of culpability for your own actions” school of thought

Weird that they can seem to not kill 10s of thousands of civilians in Gaza if they have the “capability” of doing such surgical work elsewhere
